We show that for any type III1 free Araki–Woods factor = (HR, Ut)″ associated with an orthogonal representation (Ut) of R on a separable real Hilbert space HR, the continuous core M = ⋊σR is a semisolid II∞ factor, i.e. for any non-zero finite projection q ∈ M, the II1 factor qM q is semisolid. If the representation (Ut) is moreover assumed to be mixing, then we prove that the core M is solid. As an application, we construct an example of a non-amenable solid II1 factor N with full fundamental group, i.e. (N) = R*+, which is not isomorphic to any interpolated free group factor L(Ft), for 1 < t ≤ = +∞.

For an odd-dimensional oriented hyperbolic manifold with cusps and strongly acyclic coefficient systems, we define the Reidemeister torsion of the Borel–Serre compactification of the manifold using bases of cohomology classes defined via Eisenstein series by the method of Harder. In the main result of this paper we relate this combinatorial torsion to the regularized analytic torsion. Together with results on the asymptotic behaviour of the regularized analytic torsion, established previously, this should have applications to study the growth of torsion in the cohomology of arithmetic groups. Our main result is established via a gluing formula, and here our approach is heavily inspired by a recent paper of Lesch.

We determine the irregular Hodge filtration, as introduced by Sabbah, for the purely irregular hypergeometric ${\mathcal{D}}$-modules. We obtain, in particular, a formula for the irregular Hodge numbers of these systems. We use the reduction of hypergeometric systems from GKZ-systems as well as comparison results to Gauss–Manin systems of Laurent polynomials via Fourier–Laplace and Radon transformations.

Classically, an indecomposable class $R$ in the cone of effective curves on a K3 surface $X$ is representable by a smooth rational curve if and only if $R^{2}=-2$. We prove a higher-dimensional generalization conjectured by Hassett and Tschinkel: for a holomorphic symplectic variety $M$ deformation equivalent to a Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on a K3 surface, an extremal curve class $R\in H_{2}(M,\mathbb{Z})$ in the Mori cone is the line in a Lagrangian $n$-plane $\mathbb{P}^{n}\subset M$ if and only if certain intersection-theoretic criteria are met. In particular, any such class satisfies $(R,R)=-\frac{n+3}{2}$, and the primitive such classes are all contained in a single monodromy orbit.

We prove some qualitative results about the p-adic Jacquet–Langlands correspondence defined by Scholze, in the $\operatorname {\mathrm {GL}}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p )$ residually reducible case, using a vanishing theorem proved by Judith Ludwig. In particular, we show that in the cases under consideration, the global p-adic Jacquet–Langlands correspondence can also deal with automorphic forms with principal series representations at p in a nontrivial way, unlike its classical counterpart.

We describe various classes of infinitely presented groups that are condensation points in the space of marked groups. A well-known class of such groups consists of finitely generated groups admitting an infinite minimal presentation. We introduce here a larger class of condensation groups, called infinitely independently presentable groups, and establish criteria which allow one to infer that a group is infinitely independently presentable. In addition, we construct examples of finitely generated groups with no minimal presentation, among them infinitely presented groups with Cantor–Bendixson rank 1, and we prove that every infinitely presented metabelian group is a condensation group.

We explain three methods for showing that the $p$-adic monodromy of a modular family of abelian varieties is ‘as large as possible', and illustrate them in the case of the ordinary locus of the moduli space of $g$-dimensional principally polarized abelian varieties over a field of characteristic $p$. The first method originated from Ribet's proof of the irreducibility of the Igusa tower for Hilbert modular varieties. The second and third methods both exploit Hecke correspondences near a hypersymmetric point, but in slightly different ways. The third method was inspired by work of Hida, plus a group theoretic argument for the maximality of $\ell$-adic monodromy with $\ell\neq p$.

We prove that if K is an (infinite) stable field whose generic type has weight 1, then K is separably closed. We also obtain some partial results about stable groups and fields whose generic type has finite weight, as well as about strongly stable fields (where by definition all types have finite weight).

We prove the modularity of minimally ramified ordinary residually reducible p-adic Galois representations of an imaginary quadratic field F under certain assumptions. We first exhibit conditions under which the residual representation is unique up to isomorphism. Then we prove the existence of deformations arising from cuspforms on GL2(AF) via the Galois representations constructed by Taylor et al. We establish a sufficient condition (in terms of the non-existence of certain field extensions which in many cases can be reduced to a condition on an L-value) for the universal deformation ring to be a discrete valuation ring and in that case we prove an R=T theorem. We also study reducible deformations and show that no minimal characteristic 0 reducible deformation exists.

We explore the connection between $K3$ categories and 0-cycles on holomorphic symplectic varieties. In this paper, we focus on Kuznetsov’s noncommutative $K3$ category associated to a nonsingular cubic 4-fold.

By introducing a filtration on the $\text{CH}_{1}$-group of a cubic 4-fold $Y$, we conjecture a sheaf/cycle correspondence for the associated $K3$ category ${\mathcal{A}}_{Y}$. This is a noncommutative analog of O’Grady’s conjecture concerning derived categories of $K3$ surfaces. We study instances of our conjecture involving rational curves in cubic 4-folds, and verify the conjecture for sheaves supported on low degree rational curves.

Our method provides systematic constructions of (a) the Beauville–Voisin filtration on the $\text{CH}_{0}$-group and (b) algebraically coisotropic subvarieties of a holomorphic symplectic variety which is a moduli space of stable objects in ${\mathcal{A}}_{Y}$.

We study actions of Lie supergroups, in particular, the hitherto elusive notion of orbits through odd (or more general) points. Following categorical principles, we derive a conceptual framework for their treatment and therein prove general existence theorems for the isotropy (or stabiliser) supergroups and orbits through general points. In this setting, we show that the coadjoint orbits always admit a (relative) supersymplectic structure of Kirillov–Kostant–Souriau type. Applying a family version of Kirillov’s orbit method, we decompose the regular representation of an odd Abelian supergroup into an odd direct integral of characters and construct universal families of representations, parametrised by a supermanifold, for two different super variants of the Heisenberg group.

We introduce and study a metric notion for trees and develop a fine structure theory for the corresponding class of Lipschitz trees. We also relate this structure theory to a conjecture of Shelah about the existence of a finite basis for a class of linear orderings and solve an old problem of Laver about well-quasi-ordering a certain class of trees.

We develop a general procedure to study the combinatorial structure of Arthur packets for $p$-adic quasisplit $\mathit{Sp}(N)$ and $O(N)$ following the works of Mœglin. This will allow us to answer many delicate questions concerning the Arthur packets of these groups, for example the size of the packets.

We prove a comparison isomorphism between certain moduli spaces of $p$-divisible groups and strict ${\mathcal{O}}_{K}$-modules (RZ-spaces). Both moduli problems are of PEL-type (polarization, endomorphism, level structure) and the difficulty lies in relating polarized $p$-divisible groups and polarized strict ${\mathcal{O}}_{K}$-modules. We use the theory of relative displays and frames, as developed by Ahsendorf, Lau and Zink, to translate this into a problem in linear algebra. As an application of these results, we verify new cases of the arithmetic fundamental lemma (AFL) of Wei Zhang: The comparison isomorphism yields an explicit description of certain cycles that play a role in the AFL. This allows, under certain conditions, to reduce the AFL identity in question to an AFL identity in lower dimension.

In this paper we study the category of non-degenerate modules over the Harish-Chandra Schwartz algebra of a p-adic connected reductive group. We construct functors of parabolic induction and restriction and show that they are exact and both ways adjoint to each other.

For the group $G=\operatorname{PGL}_{2}$ we perform a comparison between two relative trace formulas: on the one hand, the relative trace formula of Jacquet for the quotient $T\backslash G/T$, where $T$ is a nontrivial torus, and on the other the Kuznetsov trace formula (involving Whittaker periods), applied to nonstandard test functions. This gives a new proof of the celebrated result of Waldspurger on toric periods, and suggests a new way of comparing trace formulas, with some analogies to Langlands’ ‘Beyond Endoscopy’ program.

We study the conditional distribution of zeros of a Gaussian system of random polynomials (and more generally, holomorphic sections), given that the polynomials or sections vanish at a point p (or a fixed finite set of points). The conditional distribution is analogous to the pair correlation function of zeros but we show that it has quite a different small distance behaviour. In particular, the conditional distribution does not exhibit repulsion of zeros in dimension 1. To prove this, we give universal scaling asymptotics for around p. The key tool is the conditional Szegő kernel and its scaling asymptotics.

We consider systems of quasi-periodic linear differential equations associated to a‘resonant’ frequency vector ${\it\omega}$, namely, a vector whose coordinates are not linearly independent over $\mathbb{Z}$. We give sufficient conditions that ensure that a small analytic perturbation of a constant system is analytically conjugate to a ‘resonant cocycle’. We also apply our results to the non-resonant case: we obtain sufficient conditions for reducibility.

Using crossed homomorphisms, we show that the category of weak representations (respectively admissible representations) of Lie–Rinehart algebras (respectively Leibniz pairs) is a left module category over the monoidal category of representations of Lie algebras. In particular, the corresponding bifunctor of monoidal categories is established to give new weak representations (respectively admissible representations) of Lie–Rinehart algebras (respectively Leibniz pairs). This generalises and unifies various existing constructions of representations of many Lie algebras by using this new bifunctor. We construct some crossed homomorphisms in different situations and use our actions of monoidal categories to recover some known constructions of representations of various Lie algebras and to obtain new representations for generalised Witt algebras and their Lie subalgebras. The cohomology theory of crossed homomorphisms between Lie algebras is introduced and used to study linear deformations of crossed homomorphisms.

We show that for $100\%$ of the odd, square free integers $n> 0$ , the $4$ -rank of $\text {Cl}(\mathbb{Q} (i, \sqrt {n}))$ is equal to $\omega _3(n) - 1$ , where $\omega _3$ is the number of prime divisors of n that are $3$ modulo $4$ .
