Publishing agreement FAQs for journal authors

This page answers common questions about signing a publishing agreement with Cambridge. If your question is not covered here, please reach out to our publishing agreement coordinators at [email protected] for help.

When you publish with Cambridge we do not typically ask for a transfer of copyright ownership, just a licence to publish the content. This means that copyright ownership of the content we publish remains unchanged. However we do need to ask you to grant us a licence so that we have the necessary rights to publish your article.

If you choose Gold Open Access, we will ask for a non-exclusive licence. If you do not choose Gold Open Access, we will ask for an exclusive licence.

Sample publishing agreements

Below are two examples of Licence to Publish agreements (LTPs), © Cambridge University Press & Assessment 2025. Please note these Licence to Publish agreements are provided for sample and reference purposes only. The terms for individual LTPs may vary depending on the authors' personal circumstances and the requirements of individual journals.

Completing your publishing agreement

Following editorial acceptance, we will need both a completed Author Information Form and a signed publishing agreement before we can begin production of an article.
