We show that the theory of Galois actions of a torsion Abelian group A is companionable if and only if, for each prime p, the p-primary part of A is either finite or it coincides with the Prüfer p-group. We also provide a model-theoretic description of the model companions we obtain.

We consider stacks of filtered $\varphi $-modules over rigid analytic spaces and adic spaces. We show that these modules parameterize $p$-adic Galois representations of the absolute Galois group of a $p$-adic field with varying coefficients over an open substack containing all classical points. Further, we study a period morphism (defined by Pappas and Rapoport) from a stack parameterizing integral data, and determine the image of this morphism.

We consider compact Kählerian manifolds $X$ of even dimension 4 or more, endowed with a log-symplectic holomorphic Poisson structure $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F1}$ which is sufficiently general, in a precise linear sense, with respect to its (normal-crossing) degeneracy divisor $D(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F1})$. We prove that $(X,\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F1})$ has unobstructed deformations, that the tangent space to its deformation space can be identified in terms of the mixed Hodge structure on $H^{2}$ of the open symplectic manifold $X\setminus D(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F1})$, and in fact coincides with this $H^{2}$ provided the Hodge number $h_{X}^{2,0}=0$, and finally that the degeneracy locus $D(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F1})$ deforms locally trivially under deformations of $(X,\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F1})$.

We introduce C*-pseudo-multiplicative unitaries and concrete Hopf C*-bimodules for the study of quantum groupoids in the setting of C*-algebras. These unitaries and Hopf C*-bimodules generalize multiplicative unitaries and Hopf C*-algebras and are analogues of the pseudo-multiplicative unitaries and Hopf–von Neumann-bimodules studied by Enock, Lesieur and Vallin. To each C*-pseudo-multiplicative unitary, we associate two Fourier algebras with a duality pairing and in the regular case two Hopf C*-bimodules. The theory is illustrated by examples related to locally compact Hausdorff groupoids. In particular, we obtain a continuous Fourier algebra for a locally compact Hausdorff groupoid.

We extend T. Y. Thomas’s approach to projective structures, over the complex analytic category, by involving the $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}$-connections. This way, a better control of projective flatness is obtained and, consequently, we have, for example, the following application: if the twistor space of a quaternionic manifold $P$ is endowed with a complex projective structure then $P$ can be locally identified, through quaternionic diffeomorphisms, with the quaternionic projective space.

We prove that the Brauer–Manin obstruction is the only obstruction to the existence of integral points on affine varieties over global fields of positive characteristic $p$. More precisely, we show that the only obstructions come from étale covers of exponent $p$ or, alternatively, from flat covers coming from torsors under connected group schemes of exponent $p$.

We propose two systems of “intrinsic” weights for counting such curves. In both cases the result acquires an exceptionally strong invariance property: it does not depend on the choice of a surface. One of our counts includes all divisor classes of canonical degree 2 and gives in total 30. The other one excludes the class $-2K$, but adds up the results of counting for a pair of real structures that differ by Bertini involution. This count gives 96.

Let p be a prime number. In the present paper, we prove that the moduli of hyperbolic curves of genus $0$ over an algebraic closure of the field of p-adic numbers may be completely determined by their tempered fundamental groups.

We show that the conjecture of [27] for the special value at $s=1$ of the zeta function of an arithmetic surface is equivalent to the Birch–Swinnerton–Dyer conjecture for the Jacobian of the generic fibre.

We prove some $\ell $-independence results on local constancy of étale cohomology of rigid analytic varieties. As a result, we show that a closed subscheme of a proper scheme over an algebraically closed complete non-archimedean field has a small open neighbourhood in the analytic topology such that, for every prime number $\ell $ different from the residue characteristic, the closed subscheme and the open neighbourhood have the same étale cohomology with ${\mathbb Z}/\ell {\mathbb Z}$-coefficients. The existence of such an open neighbourhood for each $\ell $ was proved by Huber. A key ingredient in the proof is a uniform refinement of a theorem of Orgogozo on the compatibility of the nearby cycles over general bases with base change.

Let G denote a possibly discrete topological group admitting an open subgroup I which is pro-p. If H denotes the corresponding Hecke algebra over a field k of characteristic p, then we study the adjunction between H-modules and k-linear smooth G-representations in terms of various model structures. If H is a Gorenstein ring, we single out a full subcategory of smooth G-representations which is equivalent to the category of all Gorenstein projective H-modules via the functor of I-invariants. This applies to groups of rational points of split connected reductive groups over finite and over non-Archimedean local fields, thus generalizing a theorem of Cabanes. Moreover, we show that the Gorenstein projective model structure on the category of H-modules admits a right transfer. On the homotopy level, the right derived functor of I-invariants then admits a right inverse and becomes an equivalence when restricted to a suitable subcategory.

For each $k\geq 3$, we construct a $1$-parameter family of complete properly Alexandrov-embedded minimal surfaces in the Riemannian product space $\mathbb {H}^2\times \mathbb {R}$ with genus $1$ and k embedded ends asymptotic to vertical planes. We also obtain complete minimal surfaces with genus $1$ and $2k$ ends in the quotient of $\mathbb {H}^2\times \mathbb {R}$ by an arbitrary vertical translation. They all have dihedral symmetry with respect to k vertical planes, as well as finite total curvature $-4k\pi $. Finally, we provide examples of complete properly Alexandrov-embedded minimal surfaces with finite total curvature with genus $1$ in quotients of $\mathbb {H}^2\times \mathbb {R}$ by the action of a hyperbolic or parabolic translation.

We introduce the quantum isomeric supercategory and the quantum affine isomeric supercategory. These diagrammatically defined supercategories, which can be viewed as isomeric analogues of the HOMFLYPT skein category and its affinisation, provide powerful categorical tools for studying the representation theory of the quantum isomeric superalgebras (commonly known as quantum queer superalgebras).

We define truncated displays over rings in which a prime $p$ is nilpotent, we associate crystals to truncated displays, and we define functors from truncated displays to truncated Barsotti–Tate groups.

We relate the classes of unitary and calibrated representations of cyclotomic Hecke algebras, and, in particular, we show that for the most important deformation parameters these two classes coincide. We classify these representations in terms of both multipartition combinatorics and as the points in the fundamental alcove under the action of an affine Weyl group. Finally, we cohomologically construct these modules via BGG resolutions.

Let $\mathrm {Lip}_0(M)$ be the space of Lipschitz functions on a complete metric space M that vanish at a base point. We prove that every normal functional in ${\mathrm {Lip}_0(M)}^*$ is weak* continuous; that is, in order to verify weak* continuity it suffices to do so for bounded monotone nets of Lipschitz functions. This solves a problem posed by N. Weaver. As an auxiliary result, we show that the series decomposition developed by N. J. Kalton for functionals in the predual of $\mathrm {Lip}_0(M)$ can be partially extended to ${\mathrm {Lip}_0(M)}^*$ .

We determine the parity of the Langlands parameter of a conjugate self-dual supercuspidal representation of $\text{GL}(n)$ over a non-archimedean local field by means of the local Jacquet–Langlands correspondence. It gives a partial generalization of a previous result on the self-dual case by Prasad and Ramakrishnan.

We categorify the commutation of Nakajima’s Heisenberg operators $P_{\pm 1}$ andtheir infinitely many counterparts in the quantum toroidal algebra $U_{q_1,q_2}(\ddot {gl_1})$ acting on the Grothendieck groups of Hilbert schemes from [10, 24, 26, 32]. By combining our result with [26], one obtains a geometric categorical $U_{q_1,q_2}(\ddot {gl_1})$ action on the derived category of Hilbert schemes. Our main technical tool is a detailed geometric study of certain nested Hilbert schemes of triples and quadruples, through the lens of the minimal model program, by showing that these nested Hilbert schemes are either canonical or semidivisorial log terminal singularities.
