In this paper, a notion of non-microstate bi-free entropy with respect to completely positive maps is constructed thereby extending the notions of non-microstate bi-free entropy and free entropy with respect to a completely positive map. By extending the operator-valued bi-free structures to allow for more analytical arguments, a notion of conjugate variables is constructed using both moment and cumulant expressions. The notions of free Fisher information and entropy are then extended to this setting and used to show minima of the Fisher information and maxima of the non-microstate bi-free entropy at bi-R-diagonal elements.

In this paper, we study the stability of the ring solution of the N-body problem in the entire sphere $\mathbb {S}^2$ by using the logarithmic potential proposed in Boatto et al. (2016, Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences 472, 20160020) and Dritschel (2019, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences 377, 20180349), derived through a definition of central force and Hodge decomposition theorem for 1-forms in manifolds. First, we characterize the ring solution and study its spectral stability, obtaining regions (spherical caps) where the ring solution is spectrally stable for $2\leq N\leq 6$, while, for $N\geq 7$, the ring is spectrally unstable. The nonlinear stability is studied by reducing the system to the homographic regular polygonal solutions, obtaining a 2-d.o.f. Hamiltonian system, and therefore some classic results on stability for 2-d.o.f. Hamiltonian systems are applied to prove that the ring solution is unstable at any parallel where it is placed. Additionally, this system can be reduced to 1-d.o.f. by using the angular momentum integral, which enables us to describe the phase portraits and use them to find periodic ring solutions to the full system. Some of those solutions are numerically approximated.

For every $n\geq 2$, Bourgain’s constant $b_n$ is the largest number such that the (upper) Hausdorff dimension of harmonic measure is at most $n-b_n$ for every domain in $\mathbb {R}^n$ on which harmonic measure is defined. Jones and Wolff (1988, Acta Mathematica 161, 131–144) proved that $b_2=1$. When $n\geq 3$, Bourgain (1987, Inventiones Mathematicae 87, 477–483) proved that $b_n>0$ and Wolff (1995, Essays on Fourier analysis in honor of Elias M. Stein (Princeton, NJ, 1991), Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ, 321–384) produced examples showing $b_n<1$. Refining Bourgain’s original outline, we prove that

In our paper, we study multiplicative properties of difference sets $A-A$ for large sets $A \subseteq {\mathbb {Z}}/q{\mathbb {Z}}$ in the case of composite q. We obtain a quantitative version of a result of A. Fish about the structure of the product sets $(A-A)(A-A)$. Also, we show that the multiplicative covering number of any difference set is always small.

We use the dual functional realization of loop algebras to study the prime irreducible objects in the Hernandez–Leclerc (HL) category for the quantum affine algebra associated with $\mathfrak {sl}_{n+1}$. When the HL category is realized as a monoidal categorification of a cluster algebra (Hernandez and Leclerc (2010, Duke Mathematical Journal 154, 265–341); Hernandez and Leclerc (2013, Symmetries, integrable systems and representations, 175–193)), these representations correspond precisely to the cluster variables and the frozen variables are minimal affinizations. For any height function, we determine the classical decomposition of these representations with respect to the Hopf subalgebra $\mathbf {U}_q(\mathfrak {sl}_{n+1})$ and describe the graded multiplicities of their graded limits in terms of lattice points of convex polytopes. Combined with Brito, Chari, and Moura (2018, Journal of the Institute of Mathematics of Jussieu 17, 75–105), we obtain the graded decomposition of stable prime Demazure modules in level two integrable highest weight representations of the corresponding affine Lie algebra.

We study the asymptotic behavior of the N-dimensional colored Jones polynomial of the figure-eight knot evaluated at $\exp \bigl ((u+2p\pi \sqrt {-1})/N\bigr )$, where u is a small real number and p is a positive integer. We show that it is asymptotically equivalent to the product of the p-dimensional colored Jones polynomial evaluated at $\exp \bigl (4N\pi ^2/(u+2p\pi \sqrt {-1})\bigr )$ and a term that grows exponentially with growth rate determined by the Chern–Simons invariant. This indicates a quantum modularity of the colored Jones polynomial.

In this article, we prove that the Riemann hypothesis implies a conjecture of Chandee on shifted moments of the Riemann zeta function. The proof is based on ideas of Harper concerning sharp upper bounds for the $2k$th moments of the Riemann zeta function on the critical line.

Consider a minimal-free topological dynamical system $(X, \mathbb Z^d)$. It is shown that the radius of comparison of the crossed product C*-algebra $\mathrm {C}(X) \rtimes \mathbb Z^d$ is at most half the mean topological dimension of $(X, \mathbb Z^d)$. As a consequence, the C*-algebra $\mathrm {C}(X) \rtimes \mathbb Z^d$ is classified by the Elliott invariant if the mean dimension of $(X, \mathbb Z^d)$ is zero.

We provide a criterion for a coherent sheaf to be an Ulrich sheaf in terms of a certain bilinear form on its global sections. When working over the real numbers, we call it a positive Ulrich sheaf if this bilinear form is symmetric or Hermitian and positive-definite. In that case, our result provides a common theoretical framework for several results in real algebraic geometry concerning the existence of algebraic certificates for certain geometric properties. For instance, it implies Hilbert’s theorem on nonnegative ternary quartics, via the geometry of del Pezzo surfaces, and the solution of the Lax conjecture on plane hyperbolic curves due to Helton and Vinnikov.

For every minimal one-sided shift space X over a finite alphabet, left special elements are those points in X having at least two preimages under the shift operation. In this paper, we show that the Cuntz–Pimsner $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal {O}_X$ has nuclear dimension $1$ when X is minimal and the number of left special elements in X is finite. This is done by describing concretely the cover of X, which also recovers an exact sequence, discovered before by Carlsen and Eilers.

We introduce “braided” versions of self-similar groups and Röver–Nekrashevych groups, and study their finiteness properties. This generalizes work of Aroca and Cumplido, and the first author and Wu, who considered the case when the self-similar groups are what we call “self-identical.” In particular, we use a braided version of the Grigorchuk group to construct a new group called the “braided Röver group,” which we prove is of type $\operatorname {\mathrm {F}}_\infty $. Our techniques involve using so-called d-ary cloning systems to construct the groups, and analyzing certain complexes of embedded disks in a surface to understand their finiteness properties.

Motivated by the desire to understand the geometry of the basic loci in the reduction of Shimura varieties, we study their “group-theoretic models”—generalized affine Deligne–Lusztig varieties—in cases where they have a particularly nice description. Continuing the work of Görtz and He (2015, Cambridge Journal of Mathematics 3, 323–353) and Görtz, He, and Nie (2019, Peking Mathematical Journal 2, 99–154), we single out the class of cases of Coxeter type, give a characterization in terms of the dimension, and obtain a complete classification. We also discuss known, new, and open cases from the point of view of Shimura varieties/Rapoport–Zink spaces.

Let ${\mathfrak g}$ be a complex simple Lie algebra and ${\mathfrak n}$ the nilradical of a parabolic subalgebra of ${\mathfrak g}$. We consider some properties of the coadjoint representation of ${\mathfrak n}$ and related algebras of invariants. This includes (i) the problem of existence of generic stabilizers, (ii) a description of the Frobenius semiradical of ${\mathfrak n}$ and the Poisson center of the symmetric algebra , (iii) the structure of as -module, and (iv) the description of square integrable (= quasi-reductive) nilradicals. Our main technical tools are the Kostant cascade in the set of positive roots of ${\mathfrak g}$ and the notion of optimization of ${\mathfrak n}$.

We revisit tensor algebras of subproduct systems with Hilbert space fibers, resolving some open questions in the case of infinite-dimensional fibers. We characterize when a tensor algebra can be identified as the algebra of uniformly continuous noncommutative functions on a noncommutative homogeneous variety or, equivalently, when it is residually finite-dimensional: this happens precisely when the closed homogeneous ideal associated with the subproduct system satisfies a Nullstellensatz with respect to the algebra of uniformly continuous noncommutative functions on the noncommutative closed unit ball. We show that – in contrast to the finite-dimensional case – in the case of infinite-dimensional fibers, this Nullstellensatz may fail. Finally, we also resolve the isomorphism problem for tensor algebras of subproduct systems: two such tensor algebras are (isometrically) isomorphic if and only if their subproduct systems are isomorphic in an appropriate sense.

We prove that admissible functions for this problem are positive-definite with respect to the inverse Jacobi transform. The solution of Logan’s problem was known only when $\alpha =\beta =-1/2$. We find a unique (up to multiplication by a positive constant) extremizer $f_m$. The corresponding Logan problem for the Fourier transform on the hyperboloid $\mathbb {H}^{d}$ is also solved. Using the properties of the extremizer $f_m$ allows us to give an upper estimate of the length of a minimal interval containing not less than n zeros of positive definite functions. Finally, we show that the Jacobi functions form the Chebyshev systems.

We use the cobordism distance on the smooth knot concordance group $\mathcal {C}$ to measure how close two knots are to being linearly dependent. Our measure, $\Delta (\mathcal {K}, \mathcal {J})$, is built by minimizing the cobordism distance between all pairs of knots, $\mathcal {K}'$ and $\mathcal {J}'$, in cyclic subgroups containing $\mathcal {K}$ and $\mathcal {J}$. When made precise, this leads to the definition of the projective space of the concordance group, ${\mathbb P}(\mathcal {C})$, upon which $\Delta $ defines an integer-valued metric. We explore basic properties of ${\mathbb P}(\mathcal {C})$ by using torus knots $T_{2,2k+1}$. Twist knots are used to demonstrate that the natural simplicial complex $\overline {({\mathbb P}(\mathcal {C}), \Delta )}$ associated with the metric space ${\mathbb P}(\mathcal {C})$ is infinite-dimensional.

An affine variety with an action of a semisimple group G is called “small” if every nontrivial G-orbit in X is isomorphic to the orbit of a highest weight vector. Such a variety X carries a canonical action of the multiplicative group ${\mathbb {K}^{*}}$ commuting with the G-action. We show that X is determined by the ${\mathbb {K}^{*}}$-variety $X^U$ of fixed points under a maximal unipotent subgroup $U \subset G$. Moreover, if X is smooth, then X is a G-vector bundle over the algebraic quotient $X /\!\!/ G$.

If G is of type ${\mathsf {A}_n}$ ($n\geq 2$), ${\mathsf {C}_{n}}$, ${\mathsf {E}_{6}}$, ${\mathsf {E}_{7}}$, or ${\mathsf {E}_{8}}$, we show that all affine G-varieties up to a certain dimension are small. As a consequence, we have the following result. If $n \geq 5$, every smooth affine $\operatorname {\mathrm {SL}}_n$-variety of dimension $< 2n-2$ is an $\operatorname {\mathrm {SL}}_n$-vector bundle over the smooth quotient $X /\!\!/ \operatorname {\mathrm {SL}}_n$, with fiber isomorphic to the natural representation or its dual.

Let $\Gamma \subset \overline {\mathbb {Q}}^*$ be a finitely generated subgroup. Denote by $\Gamma _{\mathrm {div}}$ its division group. A recent conjecture due to Rémond, related to the Zilber–Pink conjecture, predicts that the absolute logarithmic Weil height of an element of $\mathbb {Q}(\Gamma _{\mathrm {div}})^*\backslash \Gamma _{\mathrm {div}}$ is bounded from below by a positive constant depending only on $\Gamma $. In this paper, we propose a new way to tackle this problem.

We prove quantitative bounds for the inverse theorem for Gowers uniformity norms $\mathsf {U}^5$ and $\mathsf {U}^6$ in $\mathbb {F}_2^n$. The proof starts from an earlier partial result of Gowers and the author which reduces the inverse problem to a study of algebraic properties of certain multilinear forms. The bulk of the work in this paper is a study of the relationship between the natural actions of $\operatorname {Sym}_4$ and $\operatorname {Sym}_5$ on the space of multilinear forms and the partition rank, using an algebraic version of regularity method. Along the way, we give a positive answer to a conjecture of Tidor about approximately symmetric multilinear forms in five variables, which is known to be false in the case of four variables. Finally, we discuss the possible generalization of the argument for $\mathsf {U}^k$ norms.

We first provide a detailed proof of Kato’s classification theorem of log p-divisible groups over a Noetherian Henselian local ring. Exploring Kato’s idea further, we then define the notion of a standard extension of a classical finite étale group scheme (resp. classical étale p-divisible group) by a classical finite flat group scheme (resp. classical p-divisible group) in the category of finite Kummer flat group log schemes (resp. log p-divisible groups), with respect to a given chart on the base. These results are then used to prove that log p-divisible groups are formally log smooth. We then study the finite Kummer flat group log schemes $T_n(\mathbf {M}):=H^{-1}(\mathbf {M}\otimes _{{\mathbb Z}}^L{\mathbb Z}/n{\mathbb Z})$ (resp. the log p-divisible group $\mathbf {M}[p^{\infty }]$) of a log 1-motive $\mathbf {M}$ over an fs log scheme and show that they are étale locally standard extensions. Lastly, we give a proof of the Serre–Tate theorem for log abelian varieties with constant degeneration.
