We enlarge the class of Rapoport–Zink spaces of Hodge type by modifying the centers of the associated $p$-adic reductive groups. Such obtained Rapoport–Zink spaces are said to be of abelian type. The class of Rapoport–Zink spaces of abelian type is strictly larger than the class of Rapoport–Zink spaces of Hodge type, but the two type spaces are closely related as having isomorphic connected components. The rigid analytic generic fibers of Rapoport–Zink spaces of abelian type can be viewed as moduli spaces of local $G$-shtukas in mixed characteristic in the sense of Scholze.

We prove that Shimura varieties of abelian type can be uniformized by the associated Rapoport–Zink spaces of abelian type. We construct and study the Ekedahl–Oort stratifications for the special fibers of Rapoport–Zink spaces of abelian type. As an application, we deduce a Rapoport–Zink type uniformization for the supersingular locus of the moduli space of polarized K3 surfaces in mixed characteristic. Moreover, we show that the Artin invariants of supersingular K3 surfaces are related to some purely local invariants.

We apply our theory of partial flag spaces developed with W. Goldring to study a group-theoretical generalization of the canonical filtration of a truncated Barsotti–Tate group of level 1. As an application, we determine explicitly the normalization of the Zariski closures of Ekedahl–Oort strata of Shimura varieties of Hodge-type as certain closed coarse strata in the associated partial flag spaces.

For a Shimura variety of Hodge type with hyperspecial level structure at a prime $p$, Vasiu and Kisin constructed a smooth integral model (namely the integral canonical model) uniquely determined by a certain extension property. We define and study the Ekedahl-Oort stratifications on the special fibers of those integral canonical models when $p\,>\,2$. This generalizes Ekedahl-Oort stratifications defined and studied by Oort on moduli spaces of principally polarized abelian varieties and those defined and studied by Moonen, Wedhorn, and Viehmann on good reductions of Shimura varieties of PEL type. We show that the Ekedahl-Oort strata are parameterized by certain elements $w$ in the Weyl group of the reductive group in the Shimura datum. We prove that the stratum corresponding to $w$ is smooth of dimension $l\left( w \right)$ (i.e., the length of $w$) if it is non-empty. We also determine the closure of each stratum.

After the work of Kisin, there is a good theory of canonical integral models of Shimura varieties of Hodge type at primes of good reduction. The first part of this paper develops a theory of Hodge type Rapoport–Zink formal schemes, which uniformize certain formal completions of such integral models. In the second part, the general theory is applied to the special case of Shimura varieties associated with groups of spinor similitudes, and the reduced scheme underlying the Rapoport–Zink space is determined explicitly.

Local models are schemes, defined in terms of linear-algebraic moduli problems, which are used to model the étale-local structure of integral models of certain $p$-adic PEL Shimura varieties defined by Rapoport and Zink. In the case of a unitary similitude group whose localization at ${ \mathbb{Q} }_{p} $ is ramified, quasi-split $G{U}_{n} $, Pappas has observed that the original local models are typically not flat, and he and Rapoport have introduced new conditions to the original moduli problem which they conjecture to yield a flat scheme. In a previous paper, we proved that their new local models are topologically flat when $n$ is odd. In the present paper, we prove topological flatness when $n$ is even. Along the way, we characterize the $\mu $-admissible set for certain cocharacters $\mu $ in types $B$ and $D$, and we show that for these cocharacters admissibility can be characterized in a vertexwise way, confirming a conjecture of Pappas and Rapoport.

We prove vanishing of the μ-invariant of the p-adic Katz L-function in N. M. Katz [p-adic L-functions for CM fields, Invent. Math. 49 (1978), 199–297].

We continue our study of the reduction of PEL Shimura varieties with parahoric level structure at primes p at which the group defining the Shimura variety ramifies. We describe ‘good’ p-adic integral models of these Shimura varieties and study their étale local structure. In the present paper we mainly concentrate on the case of unitary groups for a ramified quadratic extension. Some of our results are applications of the theory of twisted affine flag varieties that we developed in a previous paper.

Suppose that X is a smooth quasiprojective variety over ℂ and ρ:π1(X,x)→SL(2,ℂ) is a Zariski-dense representation with quasiunipotent monodromy at infinity. Then ρ factors through a map X→Y with Y either a Deligne–Mumford (DM) curve or a Shimura modular stack.

We explain three methods for showing that the $p$-adic monodromy of a modular family of abelian varieties is ‘as large as possible', and illustrate them in the case of the ordinary locus of the moduli space of $g$-dimensional principally polarized abelian varieties over a field of characteristic $p$. The first method originated from Ribet's proof of the irreducibility of the Igusa tower for Hilbert modular varieties. The second and third methods both exploit Hecke correspondences near a hypersymmetric point, but in slightly different ways. The third method was inspired by work of Hida, plus a group theoretic argument for the maximality of $\ell$-adic monodromy with $\ell\neq p$.

La conjecture de Tate pour les variétés abéliennes sur les corps finis a été prouvée par Tate lui-même dans le cas d'un $H^2$, mais reste ouverte en degré supérieur. Nous démontrons ici une variante affaiblie de cette conjecture (en tout degré), qui décrit néanmoins tout cycle de Tate ‘en termes de’ cycles algébriques. Cette variante s'applique aussi aux variétés abéliennes $A$ sur un corps de type fini sur un corps fini, au moins dans le cas ‘de bonne réduction’, i.e. dans le cas où $A$ est fibre générique d'un schéma abélien sur une base projective normale sur un corps fini.

Tate's conjecture for abelian varieties over finite fields has been proven by Tate himself for $H^2$ but remains open in higher degree. We prove a weaker version of the conjecture in any degree, which describes every Tate cycle `in terms of' algebraic cycles. This variant also applies to abelian varieties $A$ over finitely generated fields of characteristic $p$, at least in the `good reduction' case, i.e. when $A$ is the generic fibre of an abelian scheme on a normal projective variety defined over a finite field.

this note extends a result of moonen on the zariski closure of some sets of special points in the moduli space of principally polarised abelian varieties of dimension g to the case of any shimura variety, by a completely different method.

In this paper we compute the cohomology with compact supports of a Siegel threefold as a virtual module over the product of the Galois group of$\bar{\bb Q}$ over ${\bb Q}$ and the Hecke algebra. We use a method which has been developed by Ihara, Langlands and Kottwitz: comparison of the Grothendieck—Lefschetz formula and the Arthur—Selberg trace formula.
