Relationships in various forms are an important source of meaning in people’s lives that can benefit their health, wellbeing and happiness. Relationship distress is associated with public health problems such as alcohol misuse, obesity, poor mental health, and child poverty, whilst safe, stable, and nurturing relationships are potential protective factors. Despite increased emphasis on relationship education (RE) in schools, little is known about the views of relationship professionals on relationship education specifically, and how this contrasts with the views of young people (YP).

This Wellcome Centre for the Cultures and Environments of Health funded Beacon project seeks to fill this gap by exploring their perspectives and inform the future development of relationship education.

We conducted focus groups with YP (n=4) and interviews with relationship professionals (n=10). The data was then thematically analysed.

Themes from YP focus groups included: ‘Good and bad relationships’; ‘Learning about relationships’; ‘the role of schools’ and ‘Beyond Relationship Education’. Themes from interviews with relationship professionals included: ‘essential qualities of healthy relationships’; ‘how YP learn to relate’ and ‘the role of RE in schools’.

YP and relationship professionals recognised the importance of building YP’s relational capability in schools with a healthy relationship with oneself at its foundation. Relationship professionals emphasised the need for a developmental approach, stressing the need for flexibility, adaptability, commitment and resilience to maintain relationships over the life course. YP often presented dichotomous views, such as relationships being either good or bad relationships, and perceived a link between relationships and mental health. Although not the focus of current curriculum guidance, managing relationship breakdowns and relationship transitions through the life course were viewed as important with an emphasis on building relational skills. This research suggests that schools need improved RE support, including specialist expertise and resources, and guidance on signposting YP to external sources of help. There is also potential for positive relationship behaviours being modelled and integrated throughout curriculums and reflected in a school’s ethos. Future research should explore co-development, evaluation and implementation of RE programmes with a range of stakeholders.

The power line workers have a heavy physical workload. It is essential to know the impact of this perceived exertion on their satisfaction with life to improve their mental health.

We aimed to evaluate the associations between perceived exertion at work and satisfaction with life among power line workers.

We conducted a study among a group of power line workers from January to June 2022 using a self-administered questionnaire. We evaluated socio-professional characteristics, physical exertion with the Borg CR-10, and the satisfaction with life scale (SWLS).

Seventy-four male line workers participated in the study. They were married in 67.6% of cases. The mean age was 39.3 ± 10.5 years. The average job tenure was 15.5 ± 11.2 years. The mean of perceived exertion was 6.1±1.9. High to very high exertion was found in 73% of participants. The mean score of satisfaction with life was 26.8 ±6.5. Five (12.6%) participants were dissatisfied to extremely dissatisfied. Fifty-six (75.9%) participants were satisfied to extremely satisfied. High perceived exertion was correlated with higher satisfaction with the lives of line workers (p = 0.03, r = 0.24).

Power line workers with high perceived exertion were more satisfied with their lives. This can be explained by the positive impact of work on the lives of workers. The work environment is paramount to ensuring good mental health.

Following the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, some people have been experiencing severe mental health consequences related to pandemic stress, fear of contagion, lockdown, and measures to avoid contagion and virus spread. These aspects contributed to an increase in anxious-depressive symptoms in the general population (Asmundson et al. J Anx Dis 2020; 70 102196).

The study aims at verifying the hypothesis that Italian patients with a diagnosis of a mental disorder showed more severe depressive, anxiety and stress-related symptoms compared to the general Italian population in the context of the current pandemic.

Nine hundred sixty-one volunteer subjects (542 females, 415 males; mean age 39.42, SD = 14.5) completed the Covid-Stress-Scale (CSS) (Taylor et al. J Anx Dis 2020; 72 102232) and the Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21) (Bottesi et al. Compr Psych 2015; 60 170-81) through a self-report survey. Participants have been assessed for between-group differences through the chi-square test for categoric variables and one-way ANOVA for continuous variables.

One hundred and thirty subjects (13.53% of the whole sample) reported a diagnosis of a mental disorder for which they received medications. Among these subjects, 47.8% reported a diagnosis of anxiety disorder, 29% major depressive disorder, 2.7% bipolar disorder, and 20.4% other mental disorders. Among patients, there was a prevalence of females (chi-square = 15.84; p < 0.001), more severe depressive (F = 34.25; p < 0.001), anxiety (F = 46.15; p < 0.001), and stress-related symptoms (F = 39.38; p < 0.001) at the DASS-21 scale. The patient group also showed a tendency to more severe traumatic stress related to the pandemic (F = 3.64; p = 0.057) at factor IV of the CSS, without significant differences in the other factors of the CSS.

The hypothesis is partially confirmed, considering that patients showed more severe depressive, anxiety and stress-related symptoms and a tendency to more severe pandemic traumatic stress. Nevertheless, in all other pandemic-related symptoms we analyzed (i.e., xenophobia, increase of medical assessments, fear of contagion), there were no differences between the group of patients and the general population. In this sense, in the current scenario in Italy, symptoms directly related to pandemic stress are almost the same in both the general population and patients with mental disorders.

Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a highly prevalent condition, causing chronic pain and severe reduction in quality of life and productivity, as well as social isolation (Birtane et al. Clinical Rheumatology 2007; 26(5), pp. 679–684; Arnold et al. Psychosomatics. England 2010; 51(6), pp. 489–497; Lacasse, Bourgault and Choinière. BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders 2016; 17(1), pp. 1–9). Despite significant morbidity and economic burden caused by FMS, current treatments are scarce (Busch et al. The Journal of rheumatology. Canada 2008; 35(6), pp. 1130–1144; Bernardy et al. Journal of Rheumatology 2010; 37(10), pp. 1991–2005; Jackson et al. American journal of hematology 2016; 91(5), pp. 476–80).

To examine whether stimulation of the dorsal Anterior-Cingulate-Cortex and the medial Prefrontal-Cortex (ACC-mPFC) activity by deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) enhances a pain-directed psychotherapeutic intervention.

Nineteen FMS patients were randomized to either 20 sessions of dTMS or sham stimulation, each followed by a pain-directed psychotherapeutic intervention. Using H7 HAC-coil or sham stimulation, we targeted the ACC-mPFC; specific brain areas that have a central role in pain processing (Fomberstein, Qadri and Ramani. Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology 2013; 26(5), pp. 588–593; Tendler, A. et al. Expert Review of Medical Devices 2016; 13(10), pp. 987–1000). Clinical response to treatment was evaluated using the McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ), Visual Analogue Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (VAS-FIQ), Brief Pain Inventory questionnaire (BPI), and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS).

DTMS treatment was safe and well tolerated by FMS patients. A significant decrease in the sensory and affective pain dimensions was demonstrated specifically in the dTMS cohort, as measured by the MPQ using paired-sample t-tests with Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons on three-time points (Significant group x time interaction [F(2, 34) = 3.79, p < .05, η2 = 0.183]. No significant changes were found in the cognitive functions, psychophysical measurements of pain, or depressive symptoms in both dTMS and sham groups and between groups.

Our findings suggest that a course of dTMS combined with a pain-directed psychotherapeutic intervention can alleviate pain symptoms in FMS patients. Beyond the clinical possibilities, future studies are needed to substantiate the innovative hypothesis that it is not the dTMS alone, but rather dTMS driven plasticity of pain-related networks, that enables the efficacy of pain-directed psychotherapeutic interventions.

Taking into account the role of the immune system in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia, it is important to study the peculiarities of innate immunity in the development of the disease. A special role in these processes belongs to monocytes, which play an integral role in the inflammatory reactions and perform regulatory and effector functions to other immunocytes.

To analyze the subpopulation composition of monocytes and other inflammatory markers in patients with schizophrenia

The study included 36 women with schizophrenia (F20, ICD-10) (30±12 years) in the acute stage of the disease and 20 healthy donors. Flow cytometry was used to determine the relative number of monocyte subpopulations. The activity of leukocyte elastase (LE) and α1-proteinase inhibitor (α1-PI) in blood was determined by spectrophotometric method. The level of autoantibodies to S100b and CRP concentration were assessed by ELISA.

A decrease in “classical” monocyte subpopulation (p=0.02) was accompanied by an increase in cells of the proinflammatory phenotype (p=0.03) “Transitional” and “non-classical” subpopulations did not differ from controls. A negative correlation was found between the proportion of “classical” monocytes with “transitional” and “intermediate” cells (r=-0.66 and r=-0.54, p=0.01). All inflammatory and autoimmune blood markers in patients were significantly elevated compared to controls (p<0.05).

The redistribution of the subpopulation composition of monocytes with an increase in “intermediate” subpopulation and an increase in other immune markers in the acute stage of schizophrenia serve as an additional link confirming the involvement of cellular immunity in the pathogenesis of the disease.

During the COVID 19 pandemic children and young people (CYP) faced significant restrictions. The virus and restrictions also affected how health services could function, including mental health. Research analysing the COVID 19 pandemic is important to ensure dynamic and resilient service design in case of future national emergencies.

To investigate the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on CYP psychiatric admission trends during lockdowns 1 (started 26 March 2020) and 2 (started 20 November 2020) of the COVID 19 pandemic in England.

Routinely collected, retrospective, English, administrative data looking at the CYP hospital admissions, length of stay and patient demographics were analysed using an interrupted time series analysis to compare pre-pandemic service use with service use during COVID 19 lockdowns 1 and 2. The analysis used an ordinary least squares (OLS) approach with Newey–West standard errors to handle autocorrelation and heteroscedasticity.

During lockdown 1 and 2, psychiatric admissions for CYP were fewer and shorter. The rise in admissions for more deprived CYP and looked after children suggests these CYP may have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

Insulin is the basic medical therapy to manage type 1 diabetes and is also a cornerstone of treatment of type 2 diabetes as insulinopenia belongs to its natural history. However, insulintherapy is associated with many challenges especially psychological difficulties such as patient’s acceptance and compliance, which may lead to metabolic and psychological disorders.

The aim of our study was to determine the association between insulintherapy and depression.

A cross sectional analytic study was conducted from October 2019 to October 2020 among a group of diabetic patients followed in the Endocrinology Department of Taher Sfar University Hospital in Mahdia, Tunisia. “DSM-V diagnosis criteria for depression screening” and “Hamilton score scale” were used to evaluate the severity of depression.

A total of 260 patients were recruited in our study. The mean age was of 57.36±15.4 years with extremities ranging from 20 to 91 years. The sex ratio M/F was situated at 0.59. The mean diabetes duration was of 10.92 years. The majority of patients had type 2 diabetes (92.3%). The micro vascular long-term complications of diabetes were the most frequent (67.7%): neuropathy (39%), retinopathy (37%) and nephropathy (24%). According to the “DSM-V diagnosis criteria”, 15% of the study population suffered from a Major Depressive disorder (MDD). Hamilton score scale showed that thirty-eight patients had severe depression symptoms (14.6%). Insulintherapy was associated with MDD and depression severity (19.1% vs 10.1% ; p=0,041 and 20% vs 8.4% ; p<10–3).

Diabetic patients treated with insulin seem to be exposed to severe depressive syndromes. Once insulin initiated, doctors should be careful at the psychological aspects and the burden of this decision and use in consequence appropriate tools to screen depressive symptoms and anxiety. The role of family doctor is crucial providing early psychological support and preventing complications associated with depression especially poor glycemic control.

The night eating syndrome (NES, DSM-V: 307.59) was described in 1955 as a disorder defined by morning anorexia, nocturnal hyperphagia (25% of the daily intake of food during sleep) and insomnia. Attributed to a delay in the circadian rhythm of feeding is characterized by suppression of the daytime appetite and increased in the early morning. It is more prevalent in obese people. Treatment focuses on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

Description of a NES clinical case demonstrated satisfactory response to pharmacological treatment with trazodone.

Brief case presentation and review of the NES literature.

A 40-year-old woman diagnosed with binge eating disorder followed by Endocrinology. She had morbid obesity grade III. After the failure of various treatments addressed to impulse control and early morning intakes (topiramate, zonisamide, liraglutide, gastric balloon, hydrochloride Naltrexone/Bupropion and SSRI) she was referred to a mental health center. She was started on Trazodone therapy. Interestingly, Insomnia/binge decreased from 7 to 2 episodes/ week leading to a significant weight reduction with a 500 mg/week rate, loosing 4 kg. The case was oriented as a NES but successfully treated as maintenance insomnia.

NES leads to frequent awakenings and early morning intakes. Awareness of the episode and ability to remember differentiates NES from the sleep-related eating disorder, where the nighttime ingestions cannot be remembered. Unlike binge eating disorder, where the goal is satiety and not falling asleep, so the hypnotic function of nocturnal intake is key in the differential diagnosis with NES . Trazodone, indicated in insomnia of maintenance, has not been reported as a treatment of choice in the NES, enabling a significant decrease on awakenings and consequently the intake.

Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) are frequently associated with disturbances in both neurocognition and social cognition. The patoetiology of SSD derives from a complex interaction between genes and environment. Exposome score for schizophrenia (ES-SCZ) is a cumulative environmental exposure score for schizophrenia which have shown potential utility in risk stratification and outcome prediction.

To investigate whether ES-SCZ is associated with cognition in patients with SSD, unaffected siblings, and healthy controls.

The present cross-sectional study included 1141 patients with SSD, 1332 unaffected siblings, and 1495 healthy controls, recruited in the Netherlands, Spain, Serbia, and Turkey. The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) was used to evaluate neurocognition, while the Degraded Facial Emotion Recognition (DFAR) task was used to assess social cognition. ES-SCZ was calculated based on our previously validated method. Associations between ES-SCZ and cognitive domains were analyzed by applying regression models in each group (patients, siblings, and controls), adjusted by age, sex, and country.

According to our preliminary analyses, no significant associations were found between ES-SCZ and cognition in patients with SSD. ES-SCZ was negatively associated with WAIS in unaffected siblings (B=−0.40, p=0.03) and controls (B=-0.63, p=0.004) and positively associated with DFAR in siblings (B=0.83, p=0.004). No significant association between ES-SCZ and DFAR was found in healthy controls.

Our findings show that neurocognition and social cognition are oppositely associated with ES-SCZ. Longitudinal studies may clarify whether there is a cause-effect relationship between ES-SCZ and cognition. Further research should investigate whether ES-SCZ interacts with molecular genetic risk for schizophrenia to improve clinical chcracterization and outcome prediction in people with SSD.

This presentation will share data from a new meta-analysis of RCT studies using cognitive remediation to treat children and adolescents with ADHD. For this matter, 25 studies were accessed, and results will focus on outcomes immediately after the end of the program and in follow-up. Outcomes include subjective measures of functioning (through validated scales), neuropsychological measurements and academic performance. Comparisons regarding length of training, intensity, concomitant use of pharmacological treatments will also be provided. These findings will build on previous meta-analysis on the issue that were performed in the past.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted specialist training across Australia and New Zealand particularly in the area of assessments. Large-scale face-to-face exams were especially vulnerable to disruptions including lockdowns, travel and density restriction and required the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) to introduce alternatives.

Following several small-scale Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs) in late 2020 and 2021 (both AV and multi-site), the RANZCP introduced an Alternative Assessment Pathway (AAP) after an exam cancellation in November 2021.

To discuss the introduction of an Alternative Assessment Pathway at the RANZCP and share progress regarding the broader changes to assessment models under consideration.

The AAP was co-designed with trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates and introduced in December 2021 as an interim measure to assess clinical competence in the absence of an OSCE. It comprises a portfolio review of completed end-of-rotation forms and, if required, a case-based discussion held via Zoom.

The AAP has been held over two rounds (December 2021 and March 2022) with 97% and 90% pass rates respectively (data correct as at 6 October 2022). An evaluation into the pathway is currently underway.

In July 2022, the RANZCP introduced the Clinical Competency Assessment as a continuation of the AAP (with some modifications) for the remainder of 2022 and 2023.

While the pandemic has become a catalyst for change, the RANZCP has been considering broader changes to the theory and practice of its assessments for some time. The presentation will provide an overview of its short-term clinical assessment model and share progress regarding change to the long-term assessment strategy.

The negative consequences of the stigmatization of mental illness significantly impair health care system, society, patients and their families. It has been established, that more than 40% of patients with schizophrenia suffer from self-stigmatization (E. Brohan et al., 2010), what determines the relevance of research aimed at it’s reduction.

To assess the level, components of self-stigmatization and associated with it factors in patients with schizophrenia, receiving psychosocial treatment in the community; to propose and implement a complex of interventions for destigmatization.

The battery of instruments was used: Self-stigmatization questionnaire (V.S. Yastrebov, I.I. Mikhailova et al., 2005), revealing the patient’s tendency to explain their problems in the main areas of psychosocial functioning as manifestations of the disease or the prejudice against them; Emotional intelligence questionnaire (D.V. Lyusin, 2006); Quality of life questionnaire (J.E. Ware et al., 1995); Montreal Cognitive Assessment (Z.S. Nasreddine, 1996). 40 patients with schizophrenia (ICD-10 F.20), receiving psychosocial treatment in a non-profit organization in community, were examined.

The overall level of self-stigmatization in the studied patients constituted 42.8% or an average level of self-stigmatization. Using Self-stigmatization questionnaire, nine components of self-stigmatization were revealed. The most pronounced indicators were in following components: “Reassessment of self-realization”, “Readiness to distance from the mentally ill in the social sphere”, “Reassessment of internal activity” (56.2%, 56.5%, 55.1% correspondingly). By the forms of self-stigmatization demonstrated that patients with autopsychic form (the justification of their failure by the disease) constituted the largest proportion or 41%. The compensatory form (denial of one’s incompetence with its exaggeration in other mentally ill people) and socio-reversive form (explaining incompetence by the prejudice against them) had similar rates in 29% and 30% of patients, correspondingly. Inverse strong correlations with some of scales of the Emotional intelligence questionnaire, Cognitive scale and the Quality of life questionnaire were established. Destigmatization training for patients with schizophrenia based on cognitive behavioral psychotherapy was worked out. A set of destigmatization interventions was proposed and implemented.

A complex of different interventions taking into account the form of self-stigmatization and it’s main components, should be used. These interventions have to include psychoeducation, cognitive trainings, self-esteem trainings and special destigmatization trainings.

Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disabling and chronic illness defined by the presence of obsessions and/or compulsions. Recently it has been proposed that the perinatal period may act as a trigger in this disorder, leading to its onset or exacerbation.

Variations in pregnancy-related hormones are believed to be one of the main etiological theories for the development of perinatal OCD (pOCD). Perhaps for that reason research has been almost exclusively focused on the development of this disorder in mothers. We aim to investigate pOCD in fathers.

A non-systematic review was conducted via electronic searches of PubMed. The keywords used were “Perinatal”, “Father”, “OCD”, “Obsessive-compulsive disorder”.

Unwanted intrusive thoughts are experienced with a similar prevalence in mothers and fathers. The same seems to be true regarding compulsions. However, it does appear that mothers are more distressed by these symptoms, which tend to be baby-related, usually concerning themes of suffocation, accidents or contamination. It is hypothesized that this seemingly different impact is related to the fact that mothers are more often the primary caregivers than fathers, thus feeling more distress because they are imbued with a greater responsibility. Accordingly, pOCD symptoms tend to be more severe in fathers who consider their baby-related obsessions meaningful, often confusing them as a desire to carry out such thoughts. These findings are consistent with the Cognitive-Behavioral Theory of OCD, highlighting that purely biological theories for the development of pOCD might not suffice.

Research indicates a similar presence of OCD symptoms in postnatal mothers and fathers, although it seems that mothers may experience more distress. Underlying dysfunctional beliefs seem to be responsible for the negative appraisal of these symptoms, predicting the development of the disorder in question. Further research of pOCD should seek to better characterize the onset or exacerbation of this disorder in fathers.

Human trafficking is the trade of humans for the purpose of forced labor, sexual slavery, or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others. This may encompass providing a spouse in the context of forced marriage or the extraction of organs.

Research into the mental health impact of trafficking has consistently found high rates of mental health problems, most commonly depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

While there is some evidence that these factors can contribute the diagnosis of PTSD, exposure to trauma is the most important feature in the development of PTSD.

Where there is comorbidity, recovery often does not occur even when rehabilitation has been attempted. This is unsurprising given the multiplicity of trauma that victims of trafficking have experienced, which often includes trauma prior to the trafficking situation.

In the absence of research pertaining to the mental health treatment of victims of human trafficking, mental health professionals working with this population must educate themselves on the evidence based research related to the treatment of common diagnoses and similarly marginalized populations to ensure proper provision of the best mental health care possible.

Among the most devastating mental health consequences for victims of any crime can be the destruction of basic life assumptions; that one is safe from harm, one is a good and decent person, and the world is meaningful and just. For victims of human trafficking, mental health problems can be compounded by the misconceptions about and limited understanding of the issue of human trafficking.

Additionally, lack of social support and stigmatization by friends, family, and social institutions can exacerbate victims mental health conditions.

Psychologically process the trauma they have experienced. However, until these studies are conducted and their results made available, mental health practitioners can base treatment options for this population on existing research findings and interventions found to be successful with other similarly victimized populations.

Psychosis rates are higher among some migrant groups. We hypothesized that psychosis in migrants is associated with cumulative social disadvantage during different phases of migration.

We used data from the EUropean Network of National Schizophrenia Networks studying Gene-Environment Interactions (EU-GEI) case-control study. We defined a set of 3 indicators of social disadvantage for each phase: pre-migration, migration, and post-migration.

249 cases and 219 controls were assessed. Pre-migration (OR 1.61, 95%CI 1.06-2.44, p=0.027) and postmigration social disadvantages (OR 1.89, 95%CI 1.02-3.51, p=0.044), along with expectations/achievements mismatch (OR 1.14, 95%CI 1.03-1.26, p=0.014) were all significantly associated with psychosis. We found a dose-response effect between number of adversities across all phases and odds of psychosis (≥6: OR 14.09, 95%CI 2.06-96-47, p=0.007).

The cumulative effect of social disadvantages before, during and after migration was associated with increased odds of psychosis in migrants, independently of ethnicity or length of stay in the country of arrival. Public health initiatives that address the social disadvantages that many migrants face during the whole migration process and post-migration psychological support may be reduce the excess of psychosis in migrants.

While Smartphone use has been increasing all across age sectors, university students are the largest consumers group of Smartphone services. However, their excessive use or addiction can have harmful effects on the mental and physical health of their users. It is a real public health problem that is growing and affects especially the young population.

We aim to assess the prevalence of smartphone addiction among medical students in Casablanca, Morroco, describe the profile of techno-addictive students (Smartphones) and assess the risk of developing somatic and psychic conditions.

This is a descriptive analytical cross-sectional study, from October 2020 to March 2021, a sample of 878 students of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Casablanca, Morocco, including all levels of the academic year 2020/2021. This sample was calculated on the basis of the number of medical students at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Casablanca 4095, with an expected prevalence of 51%. Data were collected anonymously through an online questionnaire, constructed of several sections including the SAS-SV scale.

The age of the participants ranged from 17 to 32 years, average age was 22.03 with a M/F ratio of 0.43. Students ranged from first grade to eighth grade, with a majority of Moroccan nationality97.15%. The study revealed a total percentage of addiction of 37.9% for both sexes. Psychic signs such as anxiety, loss of control, disturbance and withdrawal were more frequent than physical signs such as wrist and neck pain. After the analysis of the different results, we come out with the following conclusions concerning the profile of the participants affected by smartphone addiction: Most of them are single94.76%, with a medium socio-economic level 55.5%, with another addiction 31.2%, especially to psychoactive substances,15% with psychiatric history, 45.22%with less than 5 years of smartphone use.Table I:Univariate associations of smartphone use and smartphone addiction.

In conclusion, the present study provides the first insights into smartphone use, smartphone addiction, and predictors of smartphone addiction in young people from Morocco. Future studies should extend this knowledge in order to draw clearer conclusions regarding the disease burden, and why not a more precise long-term exploration of the fate of these students and their later risk in the professional hospital setting seems worth studying.

To evaluate the relationship between parental depression and anxiety and metabolic control of their adolescents with T1DM.

Cross-sectional study recruited adolescents with T1D (N=251) and their parents (N=251). Anxiety level was measured by 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale. Depressive symptms wasdetected using The Patient Health Questionnaire – 9 (PHQ-9). Glycaemic control of patients was assessed using the last HbA1c values. GLM mediation analysis was performed to determine the potential mediating effect of parental depression and anxiety on the relationship between depression and anxiety of the child on the level of glycated hemoglobin.

502 respondents were eligible for screening. Mediation analysis was performed to assess the mediating role of parent GAD-7 on the linkage between HbA1c, child GAD-7 and child PHQ-9. The total effect of child GAD-7 on HbA1c was significant but the total effect of child PHQ-9 was not. With the inclusion of the mediating variable (parent GAD-7) (Figure 1), the indirect effect of child GAD-7 and the child PHQ-9 on HbA1c though parent GAD-7 was found significant (Table 1).

Video gaming is an extremely popular leisure activity, with over two billion users worldwide (Newzoo, 2017).

Nevertheless, excessive video game playing exposes to potential dangers. The WHO reminds us that “every gamer should be aware of the time spent on games, especially if their daily activities are affected, as well as any physical or psychological, social and health changes that could be attributed to gaming behaviour.”

The aim of our study is to analyse the frequency of video game use, and to determine its relationship with psychological and social functioning and academic performance.

A cross-sectional study was conducted in the child psychiatry department at Arrazi Hospital in Salé among adolescents aged between 10 and 17 years.

For this, we used:

• - A hetero-questionnaire on socio-demographic characteristics, reasons for gambling, type of gambling, satisfaction, self-esteem, ability to make friends and degree of social support, and school results

• - The DSM 5 criteria proposed in the appendix for the research

• - The K-SADS

Our study finds that problematic video game use is related to male gender, low academic performance, difficulties with social interactions and also low self-esteem and satisfaction.

Screening for psychiatric co-morbidities and vulnerability factors is essential for the management of this type of pathology.

One of the promising methods for optimizing treatment in order to achieve high-quality remissions is a personalized approach to prescribing therapy in the form of pharmacogenetic testing, the feasibility of which has already been substantiated and proven in a number of clinical guidelines. By the beginning of 2022, several influential regulatory and expert organizations recommend considering the results of genetic testing when prescribing therapy. Thus, personalization of antipsychotic therapy is being introduced in the world practice.

To establish the significance of pharmacogenetic markers that determine the efficacy and safety of antipsychotic therapy in patients with schizophrenia in clinical practice.

The study included 264 patients (141 men, 123 women; 27.3 ± 4.5 years) from among the first hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital in the period 2018-2020, meeting the inclusion criteria (psychosis within the schizophrenia spectrum disorders; consent to participate in research). Non-inclusion criteria - signs of organic brain damage; alcohol or substance abuse; somatic pathology in the stage of decompensation). The examination took place in three stages - in the first days of hospitalization at the peak of the acute condition and during the formation of remission - after 6 and 12 months. Genetic analysis was performed using high-density biochips from Illumina CoreExome Bead (Illumina Inc, USA). During the follow-up observation, some patients dropped out due to refusal to undergo examination, change of diagnosis or change of place of residence. After 6 and 12 months, it was possible to trace the dynamics of the state of 91 patients (50 men, 41 women; 24.9 ± 4.6 years).

Based on the follow-up results, two types of schizophrenia dynamics were identified - with a relatively favorable and unfavorable course. The formation of a relatively stable remission corresponding to the criteria proposed by the working group was noted in 47 patients (51.6%), carriers of gene polymorphisms: DRD2 rs1799732 (del); COMT rs4680(GG); BDNF rs6265 (CC); ANKK1 rs1800497 (GG); MC4R rs489693 (AA); ABCB1 rs1045642 and ABCC1 rs212090 (GG). An unfavorable course with the ineffectiveness of antipsychotics was found in 48.4% of cases in patients with DRD2 rs1799732 (G/del) carriers; COMT rs4680(AA); BDNF rs6265 (TT); ANKK1 rs1800497 (AA); MC4R rs489693 (GG); ABCB1 rs1045642 and ABCC1 rs212090 (AA).

After analyzing the results of genetic testing and clinical and dynamic characteristics of the course of schizophrenia, we can talk about the relationship between the establishment of high-quality remission in the presence of polymorphisms in the genotype, whose role has been proven in terms of the effectiveness and safety of antipsychotics.

Natural disasters adversely impact individuals living in places where they occur, resulting in emotional distress. The wildfire that occurred in Fort McMurray (FMM), Alberta in 2016 is no different.

This study aims to identify the prevalence and predictors of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) symptoms in residents of FMM five years after the devastating wildfires.

Data for the study were collected through a cross-sectional survey conducted online from the 24th of April to the 2nd of June 2021. A validated instrument, the GAD-7 scale, was used to collect information on anxiety.

Of the total number of 186 residents who took part in the study, the majority were females (85.5%), employed (94.1%), working at school boards (50.0%), and were either married, cohabiting, or partnered (71.0%). The prevalence of likely GAD among the study sample was 42.5%. Unemployed respondents were seventeen times more likely to develop GAD symptoms (OR = 16.62; 95% C.I. 1.23-223.67) while respondents who would like to receive mental health counseling were five times more likely to experience GAD symptoms (OR = 5.35; 95% C.I. 2.03-14.15). Respondents who suffered a loss of property because of the wildfire were two times more likely to develop GAD symptoms (OR = 2.36; 95% C.I. 1.01-22.62).

Formulators of policy may mitigate GAD symptoms, particularly after natural disasters, by making long-term mental health counseling available and a key component of post-disaster management, and by investing in the social capital of the people to build resilience and support to deal with the post-disaster mental health effects.
