In the course of my studies in this interesting genus I have gradually accumulated a few specimens of a species which on genitalic characters (both ♂ and ♀ ) is abundantly distinct from any of our other eastern species. As these genitalic characters of practically all the described species are known to me, due to a study of type material, I believe the present species to be undescribed and offer the following description.

Contact toxicities of 12 insecticides to adult Leptoglossus corculus (Say) were determined. All insecticides tested were moderately to highly toxic to adult females. Five insecticides—decamethrin, carbofuran, aminocarb, fenvalerate, and bioethanomethrin—were as toxic or more toxic than the standard, azinphosmethyl, at LD90. Decamethrin (LD90 =.06 μg/g body wt.) was 29 times more toxic than azinphosmethyl at LD90. Five insecticides—carbofuran, bioethanomethrin, resmethrin, azinphosmethyl, and chlorpyrifos—were tested on males also. The first three were significantly more toxic to females than males and the latter two were equally toxic to both sexes. All but two insecticides, decamethrin and bioethanomethrin, were equally toxic or more toxic to second-stage nymphs than adult females.

One of the few Canadian entomologists to study thrips was R. C. Treherne who was one of the group of workers to investigate the pear thrips when it first became an economic pest in North America. In the course of his work he collected and studied thysanoptera. His collection, supplemented by exchanges with other workers, formed the basis for the material now in the Canadian National Collection at Ottawa. The writer is indebted to curators of this collection and particularly T. N. Freeman, for the generous loan of valuable specimens for study, particularly the types of Treherne. The Moulton collection is now deposited at the San Francisco Academy of Science, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, California. We also wish to thank Dr. E. S. Ross, curator, for the opportunity of studying the types of Taeniothrips tahoei Moulton, Tae. pingreei Moulton, Tae. aureus Moulton, and Frankliniella californica Moulton.

The genus Hypophloeus contains a number of undescribed species but until the relation of certain forms as sexes has been established or disproved it is probably as well to refrain from describing species closely allied to parallelus.

The three following seem, however, to be so clearly distinct that they should be made known.

Eight species of insects parasitic on the Oriental fruit moth, Grapholitha molesta (Busck), were reared from host larvae collected in a peach orchard that was unsprayed since 1962. Macrocentrus ancylivorus Rohwer was the dominant species and parasitized between 40 and 50% of first and second generation larvae from 1964 to 1966. Despite this the parasite did not appear to be a controlling factor in these years and population fluctuations of the fruit moth resulted from other causes. In 1967 parasitism rose sharply to 61% in the first generation and 74% in the second. Low adult emergence in the second generation was related directly to the increased parasitism. Effectiveness of the parasite depended both on its numbers and degree of synchronization with the development of the moth population. To determine its total effect parasitism must be measured throughout each generation of the fruit moth, because in most years it tended to reach a maximum early in the generation and then gradually decline.

The following new species were bred in the course of Insect Faunal Survey work carried on in various parts of Ontario.

Coleophora salicivorella n. sp.

Palpi deep smoky, pale whitish inwardly and narrowly along ventral edge of secon joint: ventro-apical tuft on second joint well developed. Antennae with the basal joint deep smoky and slightly tufted, otherwise whitish, annulate with brown.

Phlepsius Slossoni, n. sp.—Form and general appearnce of lippulus nearly, slightly larger and darker, with a much longer, flatter vertex. Length, 6 mm.; width, 2 mm.

Vertex slightly acutely angled, the apex truncate, nearly twice longer on middle than against eyes, the disc concave, anterior margin sharp and broadly foliaceous, the line between this foliaceous margin and the front proper being sharply marked. Front slightly convex, evenly narrowing to the apically expanded clypeus. Elytra moderatley long, appressed behind the middle, the apices slightly flaring. Venation obscure.

For several years I have been interested in the prey of the Robber Fly, Mallophora orcina (Weid). I have taken two hundred and eighteen specimens of this robber fly with its prey. The prey belonged to twenty-three species of insects.

It will be noticed that not a single specimen was taken with the large yellow jacket (Vespa carolina), although this species is as common here as is the smaller yellow jacket (Vespa germanica). Ten specimens were taken with Liacos nobilitata, while not a single specimen was taken with Liacos bicincta, although it is as common here as is nobilitata.

The larva of Orygmophora mediofoveata Hampson is described. It has an unusual combination of features, including modifications of the spinneret, spiracles, thoracic and abdominal setae, and the tenth abdominal tergum. The most striking of these, the heavily armored anal plate, permits ready field identification.

In 1928 the writer described in The Canadian Entomologist, volume LX pages 148 to 151, two species of fleas from Colorado under the names Ceratophylius peromysci and Ceratophyllus citelli. Recent studies have shown that both of these names are synonyms.

Rogas malacosomatos n. sp. is described and differentiated from the closely related R. stigmator Say.

This paper contains the descriptions of the remaining new species of Ichneumonidæ from Vancouver Island. For the generic determinations of Amorphota, Semiodes, Phobetes and Hypocryptus, representing genera not hitherto reconized in America, I am indebted to Mr. Ashmead.

In the writer's list of the Odonata of Ontario fifty species were recorded from the Kenora District of Ontario and only one from the Rainy River District. Thirty-five are reported from the vast northern part of the District known as the “Patricia Portion” and twenty-three from the southern part. The records from the Patricia portion are all from three widely separated localities but probably give a fair general picture of the odonate fauna of these northern latitudes. The records from the southern part of the District, on the other hand, are almost entirely from one locality, Minaki (approx. 50° N. Lat., 9° W. Long.) and are quite inadequate even for that one locality, some of the commonest regional species not being included.
