In this paper, we establish Newton–Maclaurin-type inequalities for functions arising from linear combinations of primitively symmetric polynomials. This generalization extends the classical Newton–Maclaurin inequality to a broader class of functions.

In this paper, we establish suitable characterisations for a pair of functions $(W(x),H(x))$ on a bounded, connected domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ in order to have the following Hardy inequality:

where d(x) is a suitable quasi-norm (gauge), $|\xi|^2_A = \langle A(x)\xi, \xi \rangle$ for $\xi \in \mathbb{R}^n$ and A(x) is an n × n symmetric, uniformly positive definite matrix defined on a bounded domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n$. We also give its Lp analogue. As a consequence, we present examples for a standard Laplacian on $\mathbb{R}^n$, Baouendi–Grushin operator, and sub-Laplacians on the Heisenberg group, the Engel group and the Cartan group. Those kind of characterisations for a pair of functions $(W(x),H(x))$ are obtained also for the Rellich inequality. These results answer the open problems of Ghoussoub-Moradifam [16].

We establish a new improvement of the classical Lp-Hardy inequality on the multidimensional Euclidean space in the supercritical case. Recently, in [14], there has been a new kind of development of the one-dimensional Hardy inequality. Using some radialisation techniques of functions and then exploiting symmetric decreasing rearrangement arguments on the real line, the new multidimensional version of the Hardy inequality is given. Some consequences are also discussed.

In this paper, we prove some weighted sharp inequalities of Trudinger–Moser type. The weights considered here have a logarithmic growth. These inequalities are completely new and are established in some new Sobolev spaces where the norm is a mixture of the norm of the gradient in two different Lebesgue spaces. This fact allowed us to prove a very interesting result of sharpness for the case of doubly exponential growth at infinity. Some improvements of these inequalities for the weakly convergent sequences are also proved using a version of the Concentration-Compactness principle of P.L. Lions. Taking profit of these inequalities, we treat in the last part of this work some elliptic quasilinear equation involving the weighted $(N,q)-$Laplacian operator where $1 < q < N$ and a nonlinearities enjoying a new type of exponential growth condition at infinity.

We consider the $\mathbb {T}^{4}$ cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS), which is energy-critical. We study the unconditional uniqueness of solutions to the NLS via the cubic Gross–Pitaevskii hierarchy, an uncommon method for NLS analysis which is being explored [24, 35] and does not require the existence of a solution in Strichartz-type spaces. We prove U-V multilinear estimates to replace the previously used Sobolev multilinear estimates. To incorporate the weaker estimates, we work out new combinatorics from scratch and compute, for the first time, the time integration limits, in the recombined Duhamel–Born expansion. The new combinatorics and the U-V estimates then seamlessly conclude the $H^{1}$ unconditional uniqueness for the NLS under the infinite-hierarchy framework. This work establishes a unified scheme to prove $H^{1}$ uniqueness for the $ \mathbb {R}^{3}/\mathbb {R}^{4}/\mathbb {T}^{3}/\mathbb {T}^{4}$ energy-critical Gross–Pitaevskii hierarchies and thus the corresponding NLS.

We construct new optimal $L^{p}$ Hardy-type inequalities for elliptic Schrödinger-type operators with a potential term.

We set up the sharp Trudinger–Moser inequality under arbitrary norms. Using this result and the $L_{p}$ Busemann-Petty centroid inequality, we will provide a new proof to the sharp affine Trudinger–Moser inequalities without using the well-known affine Pólya–Szegö inequality.

We prove certain L2(ℝn) bilinear estimates for Fourier extension operators associated to spheres and hyperboloids under the action of the k-plane transform. As the estimates are L2-based, they follow from bilinear identities: in particular, these are the analogues of a known identity for paraboloids, and may be seen as higher-dimensional versions of the classical L2(ℝ2)-bilinear identity for Fourier extension operators associated to curves in ℝ2.

The Hardy-Rellich inequality in the whole space with the best constant was firstly proved by Tertikas and Zographopoulos in Adv. Math. (2007) in higher dimensions N ⩾ 5. Then it was extended to lower dimensions N ∈ {3, 4} by Beckner in Forum Math. (2008) and Ghoussoub-Moradifam in Math. Ann. (2011) by applying totally different techniques.

In this note, we refine the method implemented by Tertikas and Zographopoulos, based on spherical harmonics decomposition, to give an easy and compact proof of the optimal Hardy–Rellich inequality in any dimension N ⩾ 3. In addition, we provide minimizing sequences which were not explicitly mentioned in the quoted papers in lower dimensions N ∈ {3, 4}, emphasizing their symmetry breaking. We also show that the best constant is not attained in the proper functional space.

For bounded domains Ω, we prove that the Lp-norm of a regular function with compact support is controlled by weighted Lp-norms of its gradient, where the weight belongs to a class of symmetric non-negative definite matrix-valued functions. The class of weights is defined by regularity assumptions and structural conditions on the degeneracy set, where the determinant vanishes. In particular, the weight A is assumed to have rank at least 1 when restricted to the normal bundle of the degeneracy set S. This generalization of the classical Poincaré inequality is then applied to develop a robust theory of first-order Lp-based Sobolev spaces with matrix-valued weight A. The Poincaré inequality and these Sobolev spaces are then applied to produce various results on existence, uniqueness and qualitative properties of weak solutions to boundary-value problems for degenerate elliptic, degenerate parabolic and degenerate hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs) of second order written in divergence form, where A is calibrated to the matrix of coefficients of the second-order spatial derivatives. The notion of weak solution is variational: the spatial states belong to the matrix-weighted Sobolev spaces with p = 2. For the degenerate elliptic PDEs, the Dirichlet problem is treated by the use of the Poincaré inequality and Lax–Milgram theorem, while the treatment of the Cauchy–Dirichlet problem for the degenerate evolution equations relies only on the Poincaré inequality and the parabolic and hyperbolic counterparts of the Lax–Milgram theorem.

We present various weighted integral inequalities for partial derivatives acting on products and compositions of functions that are applied in order to establish some new Opial-type inequalities involving functions of several independent variables. We also demonstrate the usefulness of our results in the field of partial differential equations.
