We discuss the dyadic John–Nirenberg space that is a generalization of functions of bounded mean oscillation. A John–Nirenberg inequality, which gives a weak type estimate for the oscillation of a function, is discussed in the setting of medians instead of integral averages. We show that the dyadic maximal operator is bounded on the dyadic John–Nirenberg space and provide a method to construct nontrivial functions in the dyadic John–Nirenberg space. Moreover, we prove that the John–Nirenberg space is complete. Several open problems are also discussed.

Taking the consideration of two-dimensional stochastic Navier–Stokes equations with multiplicative Lévy noises, where the noises intensities are related to the viscosity, a large deviation principle is established by using the weak convergence method skillfully, when the viscosity converges to 0. Due to the appearance of the jumps, it is difficult to close the energy estimates and obtain the desired convergence. Hence, one cannot simply use the weak convergence approach. To overcome the difficulty, one introduces special norms for new arguments and more careful analysis.

In this work we derive by $\Gamma$-convergence techniques a model for brittle fracture linearly elastic plates. Precisely, we start from a brittle linearly elastic thin film with positive thickness $\rho$ and study the limit as $\rho$ tends to $0$. The analysis is performed with no a priori restrictions on the admissible displacements and on the geometry of the fracture set. The limit model is characterized by a Kirchhoff-Love type of structure.

Let $G$ be a primitive permutation group of degree $n$ with nonabelian socle, and let $k(G)$ be the number of conjugacy classes of $G$. We prove that either $k(G)< n/2$ and $k(G)=o(n)$ as $n\rightarrow \infty$, or $G$ belongs to explicit families of examples.

Vector-borne diseases, such as chikungunya, dengue, malaria, West Nile virus, yellow fever and Zika, pose a major global public health problem worldwide. In this paper we investigate the propagation dynamics of diffusive vector-borne disease models in the whole space, which characterize the spatial expansion of the infected hosts and infected vectors. Due to the lack of monotonicity, the comparison principle cannot be applied directly to this system. We determine the spreading speed and minimal wave speed when the basic reproduction number of the corresponding kinetic system is larger than one. The spreading speed is mainly estimated by the uniform persistence argument and generalized principal eigenvalue. We also show that solutions converge locally uniformly to the positive equilibrium by employing two auxiliary monotone systems. Moreover, it is proven that the spreading speed is the minimal wave speed of travelling wave solutions. In particular, the uniqueness and monotonicity of travelling waves are obtained. When the basic reproduction number of the corresponding kinetic system is not larger than one, it is shown that solutions approach to the disease-free equilibrium uniformly and there is no travelling wave solutions. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the analytical results.

We show that the energy norm of weak solutions to Vlasov equation coupled with a shear thickening fluid on the whole space has a decay rate the energy norm $E(t) \leq {C}/{(1+t)^{\alpha }}, \forall t \geq 0$ for $\alpha \in (0,3/2)$.

We use an extension of Gordon–Litherland pairing to thickened surfaces to give a topological characterization of alternating links in thickened surfaces. If $\Sigma$ is a closed oriented surface and $F$ is a compact unoriented surface in $\Sigma \times I$, then the Gordon–Litherland pairing defines a symmetric bilinear pairing on the first homology of $F$. A compact surface in $\Sigma \times I$ is called definite if its Gordon–Litherland pairing is a definite form. We prove that a link $L$ in a thickened surface is non-split, alternating, and of minimal genus if and only if it bounds two definite surfaces of opposite sign.

In this paper, we prove existence results of a one-dimensional periodic solution to equations with the fractional Laplacian of order $s\in (1/2,1)$, singular nonlinearity and gradient term under various situations, including nonlocal contra-part of classical Lienard vector equations, as well other nonlocal versions of classical results know only in the context of second-order ODE. Our proofs are based on degree theory and Perron's method, so before that we need to establish a variety of priori estimates under different assumptions on the nonlinearities appearing in the equations. Besides, we obtain also multiplicity results in a regime where a priori bounds are lost and bifurcation from infinity occurs.

In this paper, we establish an infinite series expansion of Leray–Trudinger inequality, which is closely related with Hardy inequality and Moser Trudinger inequality. Our result extends early results obtained by Mallick and Tintarev [A. Mallick and C. Tintarev. An improved Leray-Trudinger inequality. Commun. Contemp. Math. 20 (2018), 17501034. OP 21] to the case with many logs. It should be pointed out that our result is about series expansion of Hardy inequality under the case $p=n$, which case is not considered by Gkikas and Psaradakis in [K. T. Gkikas and G. Psaradakis. Optimal non-homogeneous improvements for the series expansion of Hardy's inequality. Commun. Contemp. Math. doi:10.1142/S0219199721500310]. However, we can't obtain the optimal form by our method.

We consider inverse nodal problems for the Sturm–Liouville operators on the tree graphs. Can only dense nodes distinguish the tree graphs? In this paper it is shown that the data of dense-nodes uniquely determines the potential (up to a constant) on the tree graphs. This provides interesting results for an open question implied in the paper.

We construct new optimal $L^{p}$ Hardy-type inequalities for elliptic Schrödinger-type operators with a potential term.

This paper aims to investigate the existence of periodic solutions for $p$-Laplacian differential equations with jumping nonlinearity under the frame of half-eigenvalue. Based on the continuity theorem, some new results are obtained, which enrich and generalize the previous results.

We study stationary solutions to the Keller–Segel equation on curved planes. We prove the necessity of the mass being $8 \pi$ and a sharp decay bound. Notably, our results do not require the solutions to have a finite second moment, and thus are novel already in the flat case. Furthermore, we provide a correspondence between stationary solutions to the static Keller–Segel equation on curved planes and positively curved Riemannian metrics on the sphere. We use this duality to show the nonexistence of solutions in certain situations. In particular, we show the existence of metrics, arbitrarily close to the flat one on the plane, that do not support stationary solutions to the static Keller–Segel equation (with any mass). Finally, as a complementary result, we prove a curved version of the logarithmic Hardy–Littlewood–Sobolev inequality and use it to show that the Keller–Segel free energy is bounded from below exactly when the mass is $8 \pi$, even in the curved case.

Let $G$ be a finite group. An element $g \in G$ is called a vanishing element in $G$ if there exists an irreducible character $\chi$ of $G$ such that $\chi (g)=0$. The size of a conjugacy class of $G$ containing a vanishing element is called a vanishing conjugacy class size of $G$. In this paper, we give an affirmative answer to the problem raised by Bianchi, Camina, Lewis and Pacifici about the solvability of finite groups with exactly one vanishing conjugacy class size.
