We will study some aspects of the local structure of models of certain C-minimal theories. We will prove (theorem 19) that, in a sufficiently saturated C-minimal structure in which the algebraic closure has the exchange property and which is locally modular, we can construct an infinite type-definable group around any non trivial point (a term to be defined later).

A fairly quotable special, but still representative, case of our main result is that for 2 ≤ n < ω, there is a natural number m(n) such that, the following holds. Assume GCH: If λ < μ are regular, there is a cofinality preserving forcing extension in which 2λ = μ and, for all σ < λ ≤ κ < η such that η(+m(n)−+) ≤ μ,

This generalizes results of [3], Section 1. and the forcing is a “many cardinals” version of the forcing there.

Let (M, )⊨ ACA0 be such that , the collection of all unbounded sets in , admits a definable complete ultrafilter and let T be a theory extending first order arithmetic coded in such that M thinks T is consistent. We prove that there is an end-extension N ⊨ T of M such that the subsets of M coded in N are precisely those in . As a special case we get that any Scott set with a definable ultrafilter coding a consistent theory T extending first order arithmetic is the standard system of a recursively saturated model of T.

We show that from infinitely many supercompact cardinals one can force a model of ZFC where both the tree property and the stationary reflection hold at אω2+1.

We prove that the only implications between four notions for Σ½-sets of reals are

By taking a closer look at the construction of an Ackermann function we see that between any primitive recursive degree and its Ackermann modification there is a dense chain of primitive recursive degrees.

A Boolean product construction is used to give examples of existentially closed algebras in the universal Horn class ISP(K) generated by a universal class K of finitely subdirectly irreducible algebras such that Γa(K) has the Fraser-Horn property. If ⟦a ≠ b⟧ ∩ ⟦c ≠ d ⟧ = ∅ is definable in K and K has a model companion of K-simple algebras, then it is shown that ISP(K) has a model companion. Conversely, a sufficient condition is given for ISP(K) to have no model companion.

The game is played on a complete Boolean algebra , by two players. White and Black, in κ-many moves (where κ is an infinite cardinal). At the beginning White chooses a non-zero element p ∈ . In the α-th move White chooses pα ∈ (0, p) and Black responds choosing iα ∈{0, 1}. White winsthe play iff . where and .

The corresponding game theoretic properties of c.B.a.'s are investigated. So, Black has a winning strategy (w.s.) if κ ≥ π() or if contains a κ-closed dense subset. On the other hand, if White has a w.s., then κ ∈ . The existence of w.s. is characterized in a combinatorial way and in terms of forcing. In particular, if 2<κ = κ ∈ Reg and forcing by preserves the regularity of κ, then White has a w.s. iff the power 2κ is collapsed to κ in some extension. It is shown that, under the GCH, for each set S ⊆ Reg there is a c.B.a. such that White (respectively. Black) has a w.s. for each infinite cardinal κ ∈ S (resp. κ ∉ S). Also it is shown consistent that for each κ ∈ Reg there is a c.B.a. on which the game is undetermined.

There exists a family of sets of countable ordinals such that:

(1) max Bα = α,

(2) if α ∈ Bβ then Bα ⊆ Bβ,

(3) if λ ≤ α and λ is a limit ordinal then Bα ∩ λ is not in the ideal generated by the Bβ, β < α, and by the bounded subsets of λ,

(4) there is a partition of ω1 such that for every α and every n, Bα ∩ An is finite.

We prove quantifier elimination for the field ℚp((tℚ)) (the completion of the field of Puiseux series over ℚp) in Macintyre's language together with symbols for functions in a class containing both t-adically and p-adically overconvergent functions. We also show that the theory of ℚp((tℚ)) is b-minimal in this language.

We give three counterexamples to the folklore claim that in an arbitrary theory, if a complete type p over a set B does not divide over $C\subseteq B$, then no extension of p to a complete type over $\operatorname {acl}(B)$ divides over C. Two of our examples are also the first known theories where all sets are extension bases for nonforking, but forking and dividing differ for complete types (answering a question of Adler). One example is an $\mathrm {NSOP}_1$ theory with a complete type that forks, but does not divide, over a model (answering a question of d’Elbée). Moreover, dividing independence fails to imply M-independence in this example (which refutes another folklore claim). In addition to these counterexamples, we summarize various related properties of dividing that are still true. We also address consequences for previous literature, including an earlier unpublished result about forking and dividing in free amalgamation theories, and some claims about dividing in the theory of generic $K_{m,n}$-free incidence structures.

On sait que par le choix d’ un langage suffisamment complexe, toute structure peut admettre une élimination des quantificateurs, malheureusement cette extension du langage peut nous éloigner des phénomènes algébriques. Nous allons nous intéresser à l’ élimination des quantificateurs pour des paires de corps. Dans le cas des paires de corps algébriquement clos et des paires denses de corps réel clos, on obtient une élimination en ajoutant au langage des prédicats ayant une signification algébrique: on peut les exprimer en disant que pour deux ensembles algébriques et donnés, il existe des points du sous-corps rationnels pour et pas pour , ou qu’ un ensemble semi-algébrique donné a des points rationnels sur le sous-corps. Robinson avait déjà abordé de façon informelle le cas des paires denses de corps réel-clos (cf. [Ro 2, p. 198]). Partant du langage des paires de corps ordonnés, enrichi de symboles de relations correspondant à l’ indépendance algébrique, il proposait d’ ajouter pas à pas des fonctions de Skolem Herbrand pour faire disparaitre les quantificateurs existentiels des formules, mais sans préciser le langage obtenu. Ici nous approchons le problème différemment en explicitant dès le départ le langage utilisé.

Grâce à ces résultats nous pourrons étudier le cas des paires séparées de corps réels clos ainsi que des paires de corps valués henseliens. En élargissant la définition d’ ensemble algébrique à tous les symboles du langage, les prédicats relationnels ajoutés ont la même signification que dans le cas des paires de corps algébriquement clos.

En comparant les techniques employées ici avec celles déjà utilisées dans [K], [B], [D 1] et [L], on remarque qu’il est possible de traîter une grande partie de l’ étude (complétude, modèle complétude, élimination des quantificateurs) des paires de corps algébriquement clos, réel-clos ou henseliens en se basant sur des prolongements d’ isomorphismes entre sous-structures dénombrables où l’ une des deux est contenue dans une structure ω1-saturée.
