In this paper we obtain a characterization for all bipartite zero-divisor graphs of commutative rings $R$ with 1 such that $R$ is finite or $\left| \text{Nil}\left( R \right) \right|\,\ne \,2$.

The central distribution of the second largest (smallest) root following the Fisher-Girshick-Hsu-Roy distribution under certain null-hypothesis has been derived in series form by Pillai and Al-Ani [6]. In this paper the noncentral distributions of the second largest roots in the MANOVA situation, the canonical correlation, and equality of two covariance matrices are obtained. Further, the distribution of the second largest root of the covariance matrix is obtained as a limiting case. The largest root and its noncentral distributions have been considered already by Pillai and Sugiyama [7] for the situations stated above. However, in the present paper, the joint densities of the largest and the second largest roots are derived in all the above cases from which the distributions of the largest roots can be obtained, although in more elaborate forms.

of length $N$. In this paper we investigate $d_{N}^{2}$ under the assumption that the Riemann zeta function has four nontrivial zeros off the critical line.

Granville recently asked how the Mahler measure behaves in the context of polynomial dynamics. For a polynomial $f(z)=z^d+\cdots \in {\mathbb C}[z],\ \deg (f)\ge 2,$ we show that the Mahler measure of the iterates $f^n$ grows geometrically fast with the degree $d^n,$ and find the exact base of that exponential growth. This base is expressed via an integral of $\log ^+|z|$ with respect to the invariant measure of the Julia set for the polynomial $f.$ Moreover, we give sharp estimates for such an integral when the Julia set is connected.

H. O. Kim has shown that contrary to the case of ${{H}^{p}}$-space, the Smirnov class $M$ defined by the radial maximal function is essentially smaller than the classical Smirnov class of the disk. In the paper we show that these two classes have the same corresponding locally convex structure, i.e. they have the same dual spaces and the same Fréchet envelopes. We describe a general form of a continuous linear functional on $M$ and multiplier from $M$ into ${{H}^{p}},\,0\,<\,p\,\le \,\infty $.

We present a general method based on the van Kampen theorem for computing the fundamental group of the total space in certain Steenrod bundles. The method is applied to mapping spaces and Grassmann bundles.

This short note refines a noncommutative (nc) Oka–Weil theorem by using a characterization of free compact nc sets based on the notion of dilation hulls. A consequence of it is that any free holomorphic function can be represented as a free polynomial on each free compact nc set.

In this note we study the finite groups whose subgroup lattices are dismantlable.

A collection of examples of first order linear neutral differential delay equations having a nonoscillatory solution with lim sup = ∞ and lim inf = 0 at ∞ is given. This disproves a recent conjecture about the asymptotic behavior of solutions to such equations.

Let k: be a perfect field such that is solvable over k. We show that a smooth, affine, factorial surface birationally dominated by affine 2-space is geometrically factorial and hence isomorphic to . The result is useful in the study of subalgebras of polynomial algebras. The condition of solvability would be unnecessary if a question we pose on integral representations of finite groups has a positive answer.

Let A be an algebraic function field with a constant field k which is an algebraic number field. For each prime p of k, we consider a local completion kp and set Ap = Ak ꕕ kp. Then we have the question:

Is it true that A/k is a rational function field (i.e., A is a purely transcendental extension of k) if Ap/kp is so for every p ? In this note we shall discuss the question in a slightly different and hence easier case.

Let R be a ring and P(R) the sum of all periodic ideals of R. We prove that P(R) is the intersection of all prime ideals Pα such that contains no nontrivial periodic ideals. We also prove that P(R) = 0 if and only if Rs is a subdirect product of prime rings Rα with P(Rα) = 0.

Let E be the (nonelementary) plane Euclidean geometry without the Pasch axiom. (The Pasch axiom says that a line cutting one side of a triangle must also cut another side. A full list of axoms for E is given in [5].) E satisfies in particular the full second-order continuity axiom.

Szczerba [5] has recently shown using a Hamel basis for the reals over the rationals that there exists a model of E not satisfying the Pasch axiom. It is natural to ask whether the axiom of choice plays an essential role in the proof. It will turn out that it does.

Let $X$ be a compact nonsingular real algebraic variety and let $Y$ be either the blowup of ${{\mathbb{P}}^{n}}\left( \mathbb{R} \right)$ along a linear subspace or a nonsingular hypersurface of ${{\mathbb{P}}^{m}}\left( \mathbb{R} \right)\,\times \,{{\mathbb{P}}^{n}}\left( \mathbb{R} \right)$ of bidegree (1, 1). It is proved that a ${{\mathcal{C}}^{\infty }}$ map $f:\,X\,\to \,Y$ can be approximated by regular maps if and only if ${{f}^{*}}\left( {{H}^{1}}\left( Y,\,{\mathbb{Z}}/{2}\; \right) \right)\,\subseteq \,H_{a\lg }^{1}\left( X,\,{\mathbb{Z}}/{2}\; \right)$, where $H_{a\lg }^{1}\left( X,\,{\mathbb{Z}}/{2}\; \right)$ is the subgroup of ${{H}^{1}}\left( X,\,{\mathbb{Z}}/{2}\; \right)$ generated by the cohomology classes of algebraic hypersurfaces in $X$. This follows from another result on maps into generalized flag varieties.

For Dewitt super groups $G$ modeled via an underlying finitely generated Grassmann algebra it is well known that when there exists a body group $BG$ compatible with the group operation on $G$, then, generically, the kernel $K$ of the body homomorphism is nilpotent. This is not true when the underlying Grassmann algebra is infinitely generated. We show that it is quasi-nilpotent in the sense that as a Banach Lie group its Lie algebra $\kappa$ has the property that for each $a\,\in \,\kappa ,\,\text{a}{{\text{d}}_{a}}$ has a zero spectrum. We also show that the exponential mapping from $\kappa$ to $K$ is surjective and that $K$ is a quotient manifold of the Banach space $\kappa$ via a lattice in $\kappa$.

Abstract. The weighted mean matrix ${{M}_{a}}$ is the triangular matrix $\left\{ {{a}_{k}}/{{A}_{n}} \right\}$, where ${{a}_{n}}\,>\,0$ and ${{A}_{n}}\,:=\,{{a}_{1}}\,+\,{{a}_{2}}\,+\cdots +\,{{a}_{n}}$. It is proved that, subject to ${{n}^{c}}{{a}_{n}}$ being eventually monotonic for each constant $c$ and to the existence of $\alpha \,:=\,\lim \,\frac{{{A}_{n}}}{n{{a}_{n}}},\,{{M}_{a}}\,\in \,B\left( {{l}_{p}} \right)$ for $1\,<\,p\,<\infty $ if and only if $\alpha \,<\,p$.

We discuss the question of extending homeomorphisms between closed subsets of the Cantor cube $D^{\tau }$. It is established that any homeomorphism between two closed negligible subsets of $D^{\tau }$ can be extended to an autohomeomorphism of $D^{\tau }$.

As an analog of a well-known theoremon the bilinear fractional integral on ${{\mathbb{R}}^{n}}$ by Kenig and Stein, we establish the similar boundedness property for a bilinear fractional integral on a compact Lie group. Our result is also a generalization of our recent theorem about the bilinear fractional integral on torus.

As a consequence of a theorem of Rost-Springer, we establish that the cyclicity problem for central simple algebra of degree 5 on fields containg a fifth root of unity is equivalent to the study of anisotropic elements of order 5 in the split group of type ${{E}_{8}}$.

We prove a quantized version of a theorem by M. V. Sheĭnberg: A uniform algebra equipped with its canonical, i.e., minimal, operator space structure is operator amenable if and only if it is a commutative ${{C}^{*}}$-algebra.
