We construct projective planes having non-degenerate homomorphic images, the homomorphisms preserving certain sharply transitive collineation groups.

Let Cr[0,t] be the function space of the vector-valued continuous paths x:[0,t]→ℝr and define Xt:Cr[0,t]→ℝ(n+1)r by Xt(x)=(x(0),x(t1),…,x(tn)), where 0<t1<⋯<tn=t. In this paper, using a simple formula for the conditional expectations of the functions on Cr[0,t] given Xt, we evaluate the conditional analytic Feynman integral Eanfq[Ft∣Xt] of Ft given by where θ(s,⋅) are the Fourier–Stieltjes transforms of the complex Borel measures on ℝr, and provide an inversion formula for Eanfq[Ft∣Xt]. Then we present an existence theorem for the solution of an integral equation including the integral equation which is formally equivalent to the Schrödinger differential equation. We show that the solution can be expressed by Eanfq[Ft∣Xt] and a probability distribution on ℝr when Xt(x)=(x(0),x(t)).

We establish some weighted integral inequalities of Ostrowski, Čebyšev and Lupaş type and give applications for continuous probability density functions supported on infinite intervals.

We construct travelling waves in the Burgers equation with the fractional Laplacian $(D^{2})^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}}$, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}\in (1/2,1)$. This is done by first constructing odd solutions $u_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}}$ of $uu^{\prime }=K_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{1}}\ast u-k_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{1}}u+\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{2}u^{\prime \prime }$, $u(-\infty )=u_{c}>0$, with $K_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{1}}\ast u-k_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{1}}u$ nonsingular, and then passing to the limit $\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{1},\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{2}\rightarrow 0$, to give $K_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{1}}\ast u_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}}-k_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}_{1}}u_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}}\rightarrow (D^{2})^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}}u_{0}$ pointwise. The proof relies on operator splitting.

It is shown that a rational map of degree at least 2 admits a meromorphic invariant line field if and only if it is conformally conjugate to either an integral Lattès map, a power map, or a Chebyshev polynomial.

Let S and T be compact (topological) semigroups, A be a closed subsemigroup of S, and f be a continuous homomorphism of A onto T. It is a natural question to ask is there a compact semigroup Z containing T and a continuous homomorphism φ of S onto Z such that φ restricted to A is f?

In the category of compact Hausdorff spaces, the answer to the analogous question may be given by the following construction due to Borsuk. Let X and Y be compact Hausdorff spaces, A be a closed subspace of X and f a continuous function of A onto Y. Then R(f, X) = {(x, y)|f(x) = f(y) or x = y} is a closed equivalence relation on X. The adjunction space Z(f, x) is X/R(f, X). The purpose of this note is to investigate this construction in semigroups.

The object of the present paper is to study the delay differential equation of arbitrary order namely y(n)(t) + a(t)yτ(t) = f(t), n≥2 (an integer) and prove a nonoscillation theorem under the general situation in which a(t) and f(t) are allowed to oscillate arbitrarily often on some positive half real line. This is accomplished by way of two differential inequalities of nth order.

The group G presented on two generators a, c with the single defining relation a−1c2a = c2a2c2 [proposed by B.H. Neumann in 1949 (unpublished), discussed by Gilbert Baumslag in Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc. 55 (1959)] has been considered as a possible example of an orderable group which can not be embedded in a divisible orderable group, contrary to the conjecture that no such examples exist. It is known from Baumslag's discussion that G can not be embedded in any divisible orderable group. However, it is shown in this note that G is not orderable, and thus is not a counter-example to the conjecture.

Let X and Y be Banach spaces and let C(X, Y) be the functions from X to Y continuous with respect to the weak topology on X and the strong topology on Y. By the Mosco topology τM on C(X, Y) we mean the supremum of the Fell topologies determined by the weak and strong topologies on X × Y, where functions are identified with their graphs. The function space is Hausdorff if and only if both X and Y are reflexive. Moreover, τM coincides with the stronger compact-open topology on C(X, Y) provided X is reflexive and Y is finite dimensional. We also show convergence in either sense is properly weaker than continuous convergence, even for continuous linear functionals, whenever X is infinite dimensional. For real-valued weakly continuous functions, τM is the supremum of the Mosco epitopology and the Mosco hypotopology if and only if X is reflexive.

A ring R is called right co-FPF if every finitely generated cofaithful right R-module is a generator in mod-R. This definition can be carried over from rings to modules. We say that a finitely generated projective distinguished right R-module P is a co-FPF module (quasi-co-FPF module) if every P-finitely generated module, which finitely cogenerates P, generates σ[P] (P, respectively). We shall prove a result about the relationship between a co-FPF module and its endomorphism ring, and apply it to study some co-FPF rings.

In this note we show that k-convex functions on ℝn are twice differentiable almost everywhere for every positive integer k > n/2. This generalises Alexsandrov's classical theorem for convex functions.

In this paper, we study two-point boundary value problems for the nonlinear second order difference equation We establish the relationship between the number of sign-variation of f on {0,…, T + 2} and the one of the solution u of the above problem.

Let f(z) be an n-valued algebroid function of finite lower order μ. In this paper, we give some further results on the deficiencies of f(z). Particularly if 0 ≤ μ ≤ 1/2, the corresponding result is best possible.

Analogues are developed to the sum theorems in the dimension theory of metric spaces. It is shown that, within the class of metric spaces, any locally countable, σ-locally finite, or closure-preserving sum of finite-dimensional sets is countable-dimensional. Similar results are obtained under the more general hypothesis of countable-dimensional rather than finite-dimensional sets.

A method is present for simplifying the calculation of steady Stokes flows. It is applicable for domains which are essentially half spaces and utilizes a special vector stream potential to decouple the boundary conditions. The results are applied to estimate the effect of no-shear zones on a shear flow.

An explicit colimit formula is used to describe the free k-space algebra on a given k-space for any k-enriched finitary theory. A question, raised and solved affirmatively by several authors, has been that of whether the free k-space group on a weakly hausdorff k-space is again weakly hausdorff and admits a closed embedding of the generators. In the present article both these features of finitary k-space algebra are combined to answer analogous questiona regarding the free finitary k-space algebras in general, and the weakly hausdorff separation axiom. Relationships with other problems in k-space theory are described.
