We extend a comparison theorem of Anandavardhanan–Borisagar between the quotient of the induction of a mod $p$ character by the image of an Iwahori–Hecke operator and compact induction of a weight to the case of the trivial character. This involves studying the corresponding non-commutative Iwahori–Hecke algebra. We use this to give an Iwahori theoretic reformulation of the (semi-simple) mod $p$ local Langlands correspondence discovered by Breuil and reformulated functorially by Colmez. This version of the correspondence is expected to have applications to computing the mod $p$ reductions of semi-stable Galois representations.

Let $E/\mathbb {Q}$ be an elliptic curve and let p be a prime of good supersingular reduction. Attached to E are pairs of Iwasawa invariants $\mu _p^\pm $ and $\lambda _p^\pm $ which encode arithmetic properties of E along the cyclotomic $\mathbb {Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb {Q}$. A well-known conjecture of B. Perrin-Riou and R. Pollack asserts that $\mu _p^\pm =0$. We provide support for this conjecture by proving that for any $\ell \geq 0$, we have $\mu _p^\pm \leq 1$ for all but finitely many primes p with $\lambda _p^\pm =\ell $. Assuming a recent conjecture of D. Kundu and A. Ray, our result implies that $\mu _p^\pm \leq 1$ holds on a density 1 set of good supersingular primes for E.

For fixed $0<r<1$, let $A_r=\{z \in \mathbb {C} : r<|z|<1\}$ be the annulus with boundary $\partial \overline {A}_r=\mathbb {T} \cup r\mathbb {T}$, where $\mathbb T$ is the unit circle in the complex plane $\mathbb C$. An operator having $\overline {A}_r$ as a spectral set is called an $A_r$-contraction. Also, a normal operator with its spectrum lying in the boundary $\partial \overline {A}_r$ is called an $A_r$-unitary. The $C_{1,r}$ class was introduced by Bello and Yakubovich in the following way:

McCullough and Pascoe defined the quantum annulus $\mathbb Q \mathbb A_r$ by

If $\mathcal A_r$ denotes the set of all $A_r$-contractions, then $\mathcal A_r \subsetneq C_{1,r} \subsetneq \mathbb Q \mathbb A_r$. We first find a model for an operator in $C_{1,r}$ and also characterize the operators in $C_{1,r}$ in several different ways. We prove that the classes $C_{1,r}$ and $\mathbb Q\mathbb A_r$ are equivalent. Then, via this equivalence, we obtain analogous model and characterizations for an operator in $\mathbb Q \mathbb A_r$.

The manuscript is devoted to the boundary behavior of mappings with bounded and finite distortion. We consider mappings of domains of the Euclidean space that satisfy weighted Poletsky inequality. Assume that, the definition domain is finitely connected on its boundary and, in addition, on the set of all points which are pre-images of the cluster set of this boundary. Then the specified mappings have a continuous boundary extension provided that the majorant in the Poletsky inequality satisfies some integral divergence condition, or has a finite mean oscillation at every boundary point.

A complete description of all possible multiplicative groups of finite skew left braces whose additive group has trivial centre is given. As a consequence, some earlier results of Tsang can be improved and an answer to an open question set by Tsang at Ischia Group Theory 2024 Conference is provided.

Unital quantales constitute a significant subclass within quantale theory, which play a crucial role in the theoretical framework of quantale research. The main purpose of this article is to investigate the construction of unital quantales from a given quantale. Using Q-algebras, we prove that every quantale is embedded into a unital quantale, which generalizes the work of Paseka and Kruml for the construction of unital quantales. Based on which, we further show that every quantale can be transformed into a unitally non-distributive quantale, which expands the foundational work of Guriérrez García and Höhle for unitally non-distributive quantales. Finally, we provide a variety of methods for constructing unital quantales from some special quantales.

In Dong et al. (2022, Journal of Operator Theory 88, 365–406), the authors addressed the question of whether surjective maps preserving the norm of a symmetric Kubo-Ando mean can be extended to Jordan $\ast $-isomorphisms. The question was affirmatively answered for surjective maps between the positive definite cones of unital $C^{*}$-algebras for certain specific classes of symmetric Kubo-Ando means. Here, we give a comprehensive answer to this question for surjective maps between the positive definite cones of $AW^{*}$-algebras preserving the norm of any symmetric Kubo-Ando mean.

In this paper, we study the cyclicity of the shift operator $S$ acting on a Banach space $\mathcal {X}$ of analytic functions on the open unit disc $\mathbb {D}$. We develop a general framework where a method based on a corona theorem can be used to show that if $f,g\in \mathcal {X}$ satisfy $|g(z)|\leq |f(z)|$, for every $z\in \mathbb {D}$, and if g is cyclic, then f is cyclic. We also give sufficient conditions for cyclicity in this context. This enable us to recapture some recent results obtained in de Branges–Rovnayk spaces, in Besov–Dirichlet spaces and in weighted Dirichlet type spaces.

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be the queer superalgebra $\operatorname {\mathfrak{q}}(n)$ over the field of complex numbers $\mathbb C$. For any associative, commutative, and finitely generated $\mathbb C$-algebra A with unity, we consider the loop Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{g} \otimes A$. We define a class of central operators for $\mathfrak{g} \otimes A$, which generalizes the classical Gelfand invariants. We show that they generate the algebra $U(\mathfrak{g} \otimes A)^{\mathfrak{g}}$. We also show that there are no non-trivial $\mathfrak{g}$-invariants of $U(\mathfrak{g} \otimes A)$ where $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{p}(n)$, the periplectic Lie superalgebra.

Let p be a fixed prime number, and let F be a global function field with characteristic not equal to p. In this article, we shall study the variation properties of the Sylow p-subgroups of the even K-groups in a p-adic Lie extension of F. When the p-adic Lie extension is assumed to contain the cyclotomic $\mathbb {Z}_p$-extension of F, we obtain growth estimate of these groups. We also establish a duality between the direct limit and inverse limit of the even K-groups.

In this article, a construction of a metrizable zero-dimensional CDH space X such that $X^2$ has exactly $\mathfrak {c}$ many types of countable dense subsets is provided. Furthermore, it is shown that the space can be constructed consistently co-analytic. Thus answering an open question asked by Medini. To do so we use the notion of a $\lambda $-set.

We show that for any $\varepsilon>0$, the number of monic, reciprocal, length-$5$ integer polynomials that have house at least $1+\varepsilon $ is finite. The proof is algorithmic, and we are consequently able to compute a complete list (not imposing any bound on the degree) of small Mahler measures of length-$5$ polynomials that have house at least $1.01$.

For larger lengths, the analogous finiteness statement is false, as we show by examples. For length $6$ we show that if one also imposes an upper bound for the Mahler measure that is strictly below the smallest Pisot number $\theta = 1.32471\cdots $, and if the length $6$ polynomial is a cyclotomic multiple of an irreducible polynomial, then the number of polynomials with house at least $1+\varepsilon $ is finite.

We pursue these ideas to search opportunistically for small Mahler measures represented by longer polynomials. We find one new small measure.

We give an algorithm that finds all Salem numbers in an interval $[a,b]$ that are the Mahler measure of an integer polynomial of length at most $6$, provided $1<a \le b < \theta $.

Let G be a compact group, let $\mathcal {B}$ be a unital C$^*$-algebra, and let $(\mathcal {A},G,\alpha )$ be a free C$^*$-dynamical system, in the sense of Ellwood, with fixed point algebra $\mathcal {B}$. We prove that $(\mathcal {A},G,\alpha )$ can be realized as the G-continuous part of the invariants of an equivariant coaction of G on a corner of $\mathcal {B} \otimes {\mathcal {K}}({\mathfrak {H}})$ for a certain Hilbert space ${\mathfrak {H}}$ that arises from the freeness of the action. This extends a result by Wassermann for free and ergodic C$^*$-dynamical systems. As an application, we show that any faithful $^*$-representation of $\mathcal {B}$ on a Hilbert space ${\mathfrak {H}}_{\mathcal {B}}$ gives rise to a faithful covariant representation of $(\mathcal {A},G,\alpha )$ on some truncation of ${\mathfrak {H}}_{\mathcal {B}} \otimes {\mathfrak {H}}$.

We prove an exact control theorem, in the sense of Hida theory, for the ordinary part of the middle degree étale cohomology of certain Hilbert modular varieties, after localizing at a suitable maximal ideal of the Hecke algebra. Our method of proof builds upon the techniques introduced by Loeffler–Rockwood–Zerbes (2023, Spherical varieties and p-adic families of cohomology classes); another important ingredient in our proof is the recent work of Caraiani–Tamiozzo (2023, Compositio Mathematica 159, 2279–2325) on the vanishing of the étale cohomology of Hilbert modular varieties with torsion coefficients outside the middle degree. This work will be used in forthcoming work of the author to show that the Asai–Flach Euler system corresponding to a quadratic Hilbert modular form varies in Hida families.

Let R be a ring and let $n\ge 2$. We discuss the question of whether every element in the matrix ring $M_n(R)$ is a product of (additive) commutators $[x,y]=xy-yx$, for $x,y\in M_n(R)$. An example showing that this does not always hold, even when R is commutative, is provided. If, however, R has Bass stable rank one, then under various additional conditions every element in $M_n(R)$ is a product of three commutators. Further, if R is a division ring with infinite center, then every element in $M_n(R)$ is a product of two commutators. If R is a field and $a\in M_n(R)$, then every element in $M_n(R)$ is a sum of elements of the form $[a,x][a,y]$ with $x,y\in M_n(R)$ if and only if the degree of the minimal polynomial of a is greater than $2$.

We investigate upper bounds for the spectral ratios and gaps for the Steklov eigenvalues of balls with revolution-type metrics. We do not impose conditions on the Ricci curvature or on the convexity of the boundary. We obtain optimal upper bounds for the Steklov spectral ratios in dimensions 3 and higher. In dimension 3, we also obtain optimal upper bounds for the Steklov spectral gaps. By imposing additional constraints on the metric, we obtain upper bounds for the Steklov spectral gaps in dimensions 4 and higher.

We prove that virtually free groups are precisely the hyperbolic groups admitting a language of geodesic words containing a unique representative for each group element with bounded triangles. Equivalently, these are exactly the hyperbolic groups for which the model for the Gromov boundary defined by Silva is well defined.

Let G be a semiabelian variety defined over a finite subfield of an algebraically closed field K of prime characteristic. We describe the intersection of a subvariety X of G with a finitely generated subgroup of $G(K)$.

We obtain a system of identities relating boundary coefficients and spectral data for the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with boundary conditions containing rational Herglotz–Nevanlinna functions of the eigenvalue parameter. These identities can be thought of as a kind of mini version of the Gelfand–Levitan integral equation for boundary coefficients only.

In this article, we establish a function field analog of Jacobi’s theorem on sums of squares and analyze its moments. Our approach involves employing two distinct techniques to derive the main results concerning asymptotic formulas for the moments. The first technique utilizes Dirichlet series framework to derive asymptotic formulas in the limit of large finite fields, specifically when the characteristic of $\mathbb {F}_q[T]$ becomes large. The second technique involves effectively partitioning the set of polynomials of a fixed degree, providing asymptotic formulas in the limit of large polynomial degree.
