Let S = R[xij] be the polynomial ring over R, and It be the ideal in S, generated by the t × t minors of the generic matrix (xij) ∈ Mm, n(S). For many years there has been considerable interest in finding a minimal free resolution of S/It, over arbitrary base ring R. If we have a minimal free resolution P. over R = Z, the ring of integers, then R′ ⊗z P. is a resolution of S/It over the base ring R′.

In this note we characterize p(dVα) as those functions in (B) whose images under the action of a certain set of differential operators lie in Lp(dVα). This is valid for 1 < p < oo. We also show that the Cesàro operator is bounded on p(dVα) for 0 < p < oo. Analogous results are given for the polydisc.

One of the authors has shown the ergodicity of the perturbed billiard system which can describe the motion of a particle in a potential field of a special type [5], [6]. Since then, some development has been made, and we are now able to show the Bernoulli property of the system in this article. We hope, the result gives a new progress in statistical mechanics. Our method of the proof is inspired by the idea of D. S. Ornstein and B. Weiss [9], which has been used by G. Gallavotti and D. S. Ornstein [3] for a Sinai billiard system.

In a recent paper, [6], Nomizu and Rodriguez found a geometric characterization of umbilical submanifolds Mn ⊂ Rn+p in terms of the critical point behavior of a certain class of functions Lp, p ⊂ Rn+p, on Mn. We prove the modularity of four rigid and three nonrigid Calabi-Yau threefolds associated with the A4 root lattice.

We prove vanishing theorems of cohomology groups of local system, which generalize Kita and Noumi’s result and partially Aomoto’s result. Main ingredients of our proof are the Hodge to de Rham spectral sequence and Serre’s vanishing theorem in algebraic geometry.

Let Gn (resp. Γn) be the real symplectic (resp. Siegel modular) group of degree n. The Siegel cusp form is a holomorphic function on the Siegel upper half plane which satisfies functional equations relative to Γn and vanishes at the cusps.

Suppose that G is the projective symplectic group PSp(4, q), the Dickson group G2(q)> or the Steinberg “triality-twisted” group where q is an odd prime power. Then G is a finite simple group, and G contains an involution j such that the centralizer C(j) in G has a subgroup of index 2 which contains j and which is the central product of two groups isomorphic with SL(2,q1) and SL(2,q2) for suitable ql q2. We wish to show that conversely the only finite simple groups containing an involution with this property are the groups PSp(4,q), G2(q)9. In this first paper we shall prove the following result.

The PRIMITIVE LOGIC LO introduced in my former work is a logic having only two logical constants IMPLICATION → and UNIVERSAL QUANTIFICATION ( ) with their usual inference rules which are admitted even in the INTUITIONISTIC PREDICATE LOGIC LJ. LO is really a very simple logic, maybe the simplest possible logic as one can imagine, but it is very important because of its universal character. In fact, popular logics such as the LOWER CLASSICAL PREDICATE LOGIC LK, the INTUITIONISTIC PREDICATE LOGIC LJ, the MINIMAL PREDICATE .LOGIC LM, etc. can be faithfully interpreted in it. Speaking frankly, I am further expecting that all the important logics would be interpreted faithfully in it and would disclose their intrinsic characteristics by being interpreted in it. Main purpose of this paper is to show the universal character of the primitive logic LO by pointing out that a series of typical logics are faithfully interpretable in LO.

We develop the theory of the doubling zeta integral of Piatetski-Shapiro and Rallis for metaplectic groups Mp2n, and we use it to give precise definitions of the local γ-factors, L-factors, and ε-factors for irreducible representations of Mp2n × GL1, following the footsteps of Lapid and Rallis.

The present paper is a continuation of Part I. In the introduction of Part I we have explained our main problems and sketched their results. In the present part we shall proceed to give complete proofs of them.

Dises Verfahren schlägt zuweilen fehl, da manche Sätze, welche im Falle der schlichtartigen Gebiete richtig sind, im Falle beliebiger Riemannscher Flächen nicht mehr wahr bleiben.
