We obtain generalizations of the classical Menchov–Rademacher theorem to the case of continuous orthogonal systems. These results are applied to show the existence of Moller wave operators in Schrödinger evolution.

We present a systematic study of threefolds fibred by K3 surfaces that are mirror to sextic double planes. There are many parallels between this theory and the theory of elliptic surfaces. We show that the geometry of such threefolds is controlled by a pair of invariants, called the generalized functional and generalized homological invariants, and we derive an explicit birational model for them, which we call the Weierstrass form. We then describe how to resolve the singularities of the Weierstrass form to obtain the “minimal form”, which has mild singularities and is unique up to birational maps in codimension 2. Finally, we describe some of the geometric properties of threefolds in minimal form, including their singular fibres, canonical divisor, and Betti numbers.

All non-negative, continuous, $\text{SL}(n)$, and translation invariant valuations on the space of super-coercive, convex functions on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ are classified. Furthermore, using the invariance of the function space under the Legendre transform, a classification of non-negative, continuous, $\text{SL}(n)$, and dually translation invariant valuations is obtained. In both cases, different functional analogs of the Euler characteristic, volume, and polar volume are characterized.

This work is concerned with Bielawski’s hyperkähler slices in the cotangent bundles of homogeneous affine varieties. One can associate such a slice with the data of a complex semisimple Lie group $G$, a reductive subgroup $H\subseteq G$, and a Slodowy slice $S\subseteq \mathfrak{g}:=\text{Lie}(G)$, defining it to be the hyperkähler quotient of $T^{\ast }(G/H)\times (G\times S)$ by a maximal compact subgroup of $G$. This hyperkähler slice is empty in some of the most elementary cases (e.g., when $S$ is regular and $(G,H)=(\text{SL}_{n+1},\text{GL}_{n})$, $n\geqslant 3$), prompting us to seek necessary and sufficient conditions for non-emptiness.

We give a spherical-geometric characterization of the non-empty hyperkähler slices that arise when $S=S_{\text{reg}}$ is a regular Slodowy slice, proving that non-emptiness is equivalent to the so-called $\mathfrak{a}$-regularity of $(G,H)$. This $\mathfrak{a}$-regularity condition is formulated in several equivalent ways, one being a concrete condition on the rank and complexity of $G/H$. We also provide a classification of the $\mathfrak{a}$-regular pairs $(G,H)$ in which $H$ is a reductive spherical subgroup. Our arguments make essential use of Knop’s results on moment map images and Losev’s algorithm for computing Cartan spaces.

We introduce a dimension group for a self-similar map as the $\mathrm {K}_0$ -group of the core of the C*-algebra associated with the self-similar map together with the canonical endomorphism. The key step for the computation is an explicit description of the core as the inductive limit using their matrix representations over the coefficient algebra, which can be described explicitly by the singularity structure of branched points. We compute that the dimension group for the tent map is isomorphic to the countably generated free abelian group ${\mathbb Z}^{\infty }\cong {\mathbb Z}[t]$ together with the unilateral shift, i.e. the multiplication map by t as an abstract group. Thus the canonical endomorphisms on the $\mathrm {K}_0$ -groups are not automorphisms in general. This is a different point compared with dimension groups for topological Markov shifts. We can count the singularity structure in the dimension groups.

In this paper, we extend to the non-Hille–Yosida case a variation of constants formula for a nonautonomous and nonhomogeneous Cauchy problems first obtained by Gühring and Räbiger. By using this variation of constants formula, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an exponential dichotomy for the evolution family generated by the associated nonautonomous homogeneous problem. We also prove a persistence result of the exponential dichotomy for small perturbations. Finally, we illustrate our results by considering two examples. The first example is a parabolic equation with nonlocal and nonautonomous boundary conditions, and the second example is an age-structured model that is a hyperbolic equation.

Motivated by works on extension sets in standard domains, we introduce a notion of the Carathéodory set that seems better suited for the methods used in proofs of results on characterization of extension sets. A special stress is put on a class of two-dimensional submanifolds in the tridisc that not only turns out to be Carathéodory but also provides examples of two-dimensional domains for which the celebrated Lempert Theorem holds. Additionally, a recently introduced notion of universal sets for the Carathéodory extremal problem is studied and new results on domains admitting (no) finite universal sets are given.

We introduce and study various categories of (equivariant) motives of (versal) flag varieties. We relate these categories with certain categories of parabolic (Demazure) modules. We show that the motivic decomposition type of a versal flag variety depends on the direct sum decomposition type of the parabolic module. To do this we use localization techniques of Kostant and Kumar in the context of generalized oriented cohomology as well as the Rost nilpotence principle for algebraic cobordism and its generic version. As an application, we obtain new proofs and examples of indecomposable Chow motives of versal flag varieties.

Given an action ${\varphi }$ of inverse semigroup S on a ring A (with domain of ${\varphi }(s)$ denoted by $D_{s^*}$ ), we show that if the ideals $D_e$ , with e an idempotent, are unital, then the skew inverse semigroup ring $A\rtimes S$ can be realized as the convolution algebra of an ample groupoid with coefficients in a sheaf of (unital) rings. Conversely, we show that the convolution algebra of an ample groupoid with coefficients in a sheaf of rings is isomorphic to a skew inverse semigroup ring of this sort. We recover known results in the literature for Steinberg algebras over a field as special cases.

All SL($n$) contravariant symmetric matrix valued valuations on convex polytopes in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ are completely classified without any continuity assumptions. The general Lutwak–Yang–Zhang matrix is shown to be essentially the unique such valuation.

A basic problem in the theory of partially ordered vector spaces is to characterise those cones on which every order-isomorphism is linear. We show that this is the case for every Archimedean cone that equals the inf-sup hull of the sum of its engaged extreme rays. This condition is milder than existing ones and is satisfied by, for example, the cone of positive operators in the space of bounded self-adjoint operators on a Hilbert space. We also give a general form of order-isomorphisms on the inf-sup hull of the sum of all extreme rays of the cone, which extends results of Artstein–Avidan and Slomka to infinite-dimensional partially ordered vector spaces, and prove the linearity of homogeneous order-isomorphisms in a variety of new settings.

We obtain simple quadratic recurrence formulas counting bipartite maps on surfaces with prescribed degrees (in particular, $2k$-angulations) and constellations. These formulas are the fastest known way of computing these numbers.

Our work is a natural extension of previous works on integrable hierarchies (2-Toda and KP), namely, the Pandharipande recursion for Hurwitz numbers (proved by Okounkov and simplified by Dubrovin–Yang–Zagier), as well as formulas for several models of maps (Goulden–Jackson, Carrell–Chapuy, Kazarian–Zograf). As for those formulas, a bijective interpretation is still to be found. We also include a formula for monotone simple Hurwitz numbers derived in the same fashion.

These formulas also play a key role in subsequent work of the author with T. Budzinski establishing the hyperbolic local limit of random bipartite maps of large genus.

We study the growth of p-primary Selmer groups of abelian varieties with good ordinary reduction at p in ${{Z}}_p$ -extensions of a fixed number field K. Proving that in many situations the knowledge of the Selmer groups in a sufficiently large number of finite layers of a ${{Z}}_p$ -extension over K suffices for bounding the over-all growth, we relate the Iwasawa invariants of Selmer groups in different ${{Z}}_p$ -extensions of K. As applications, we bound the growth of Mordell–Weil ranks and the growth of Tate-Shafarevich groups. Finally, we derive an analogous result on the growth of fine Selmer groups.

We study coisotropic submanifolds of b-symplectic manifolds. We prove that b-coisotropic submanifolds (those transverse to the degeneracy locus) determine the b-symplectic structure in a neighborhood, and provide a normal form theorem. This extends Gotay’s theorem in symplectic geometry. Further, we introduce strong b-coisotropic submanifolds and show that their coisotropic quotient, which locally is always smooth, inherits a reduced b-symplectic structure.

Let X be a normal projective variety of dimension n and G an abelian group of automorphisms such that all elements of $G\setminus \{\operatorname {id}\}$ are of positive entropy. Dinh and Sibony showed that G is actually free abelian of rank $\le n - 1$ . The maximal rank case has been well understood by De-Qi Zhang. We aim to characterize the pair $(X, G)$ such that $\operatorname {rank} G = n - 2$ .

A new approach to prove weak convergence of random polytopes on the space of compact convex sets is presented. This is used to show that the profile of the rescaled Schläfli random cone of a random conical tessellation, generated by n independent and uniformly distributed random linear hyperplanes in $\mathbb {R}^{d+1}$ , weakly converges to the typical cell of a stationary and isotropic Poisson hyperplane tessellation in $\mathbb {R}^d$ , as $n\to \infty $ .

An ordered hypergraph is a hypergraph whose vertex set is linearly ordered, and a convex geometric hypergraph is a hypergraph whose vertex set is cyclically ordered. Extremal problems for ordered and convex geometric graphs have a rich history with applications to a variety of problems in combinatorial geometry. In this paper, we consider analogous extremal problems for uniform hypergraphs, and determine the order of magnitude of the extremal function for various ordered and convex geometric paths and matchings. Our results generalize earlier works of Braß–Károlyi–Valtr, Capoyleas–Pach, and Aronov–Dujmovič–Morin–Ooms-da Silveira. We also provide a new variation of the Erdős-Ko-Rado theorem in the ordered setting.

We strengthen, in various directions, the theorem of Garnett that every $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$-compact, completely regular space $X$ occurs as a Gleason part for some uniform algebra. In particular, we show that the uniform algebra can always be chosen so that its maximal ideal space contains no analytic discs. We show that when the space $X$ is metrizable, the uniform algebra can be chosen so that its maximal ideal space is metrizable as well. We also show that for every locally compact subspace $X$ of a Euclidean space, there is a compact set $K$ in some $\mathbb{C}^{N}$ so that $\widehat{K}\backslash K$ contains a Gleason part homeomorphic to $X$, and $\widehat{K}$ contains no analytic discs.

Let $W_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}}$ be the lattice Lie algebra of Witt type associated with an additive inclusion $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}:\mathbb{Z}^{N}{\hookrightarrow}\mathbb{C}^{2}$ with $N>1$. In this article, the classification of simple $\mathbb{Z}^{N}$-graded $W_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}}$-modules, whose multiplicities are uniformly bounded, is given.
