Let $\mathcal H$ be a complex, separable Hilbert space, and set . When $\dim \, \mathcal H$ is finite, we characterise the set and its norm-closure . In the infinite-dimensional setting, we characterise the intersection of with the set of biquasitriangular operators, and we exhibit an index obstruction to belonging to .

We explore generalizations of the p-adic Simpson correspondence on smooth proper rigid spaces to principal bundles under rigid group varieties G. For commutative G, we prove that such a correspondence exists if and only if the Lie group logarithm is surjective. Second, we treat the case of general G on ordinary abelian varieties, in which case we prove a generalization of Faltings’ “small” correspondence to general rigid groups. On abeloid varieties, we also prove an analog of the classical Corlette–Simpson correspondence for principal bundles under linear algebraic groups.

In this article, it is shown that the lattice of C$^*$-covers of an operator algebra does not contain enough information to distinguish operator algebras up to completely isometric isomorphism. In addition, four natural equivalences of the lattice of C$^*$-covers are developed and proven to be distinct. The lattice of C$^*$-covers of direct sums and tensor products are studied. Along the way key examples are found of operator algebras, each of which generates exactly n C$^*$-algebras up to $*$-isomorphism, and a simple operator algebra that is not similar to a C$^*$-algebra.

We introduce the concept of pseudo-trisections of smooth oriented compact 4-manifolds with boundary. The main feature of pseudo-trisections is that they have lower complexity than relative trisections for given 4-manifolds. We prove existence and uniqueness of pseudo-trisections, and further establish a one-to-one correspondence between pseudo-trisections and their diagrammatic representations. We next introduce the concept of pseudo-bridge trisections of neatly embedded surfaces in smooth oriented compact 4-manifolds. We develop a diagrammatic theory of pseudo-bridge trisections and provide examples of computations of invariants of neatly embedded surfaces in 4-manifolds using said diagrams.

Given a full right-Hilbert $\mathrm {C}^{*}$-module $\mathbf {X}$ over a $\mathrm {C}^{*}$-algebra A, the set $\mathbb {K}_{A}(\mathbf {X})$ of A-compact operators on $\mathbf {X}$ is the (up to isomorphism) unique $\mathrm {C}^{*}$-algebra that is strongly Morita equivalent to the coefficient algebra A via $\mathbf {X}$. As a bimodule, $\mathbb {K}_{A}(\mathbf {X})$ can also be thought of as the balanced tensor product $\mathbf {X}\otimes _{A} \mathbf {X}^{\mathrm {op}}$, and so the latter naturally becomes a $\mathrm {C}^{*}$-algebra. We generalize both of these facts to the world of Fell bundles over groupoids: Suppose $\mathscr {B}$ is a Fell bundle over a groupoid $\mathcal {H}$ and $\mathscr {M}$ is an upper semi-continuous Banach bundle over a principal $\mathcal {H}$-space X. If $\mathscr {M}$ carries a right-action of $\mathscr {B}$ and a sufficiently nice $\mathscr {B}$-valued inner product, then its imprimitivity Fell bundle $\mathbb {K}_{\mathscr {B}}(\mathscr {M})=\mathscr {M}\otimes _{\mathscr {B}} \mathscr {M}^{\mathrm {op}}$ is a Fell bundle over the imprimitivity groupoid of X, and it is the unique Fell bundle that is equivalent to $\mathscr {B}$ via $\mathscr {M}$. We show that $\mathbb {K}_{\mathscr {B}}(\mathscr {M})$ generalizes the “higher order” compact operators of Abadie–Ferraro in the case of saturated bundles over groups, and that the theorem recovers results such as Kumjian’s Stabilization trick.

In this paper, we classify all global dynamics of the three-dimensional type-K monotone Lotka–Volterra system with the identical intrinsic growth rate inside the compactification of the positive octant of $\mathbb {R}^{3}$. By means of the replicator equations, it is proved that this system can have exactly $35$ topologically different phase portraits. As a consequence, we obtain the necessary and sufficient condition for the system to be bounded in the positive octant and verify that the limit set of any orbit of the compactified vector field associated with the system is an equilibrium.

We expand the theory of 2-classifiers, that are a 2-categorical generalization of subobject classifiers introduced by Weber. The idea is to upgrade monomorphisms to discrete opfibrations. We prove that the conditions of 2-classifier can be checked just on a dense generator. The study of what is classified by a 2-classifier is similarly reduced to a study over the objects that form a dense generator. We then apply our results to the cases of prestacks and stacks, where we can thus look just at the representables. We produce a 2-classifier in prestacks that classifies all discrete opfibrations with small fibres. Finally, we restrict such 2-classifier to a 2-classifier in stacks. This is the main ingredient of a proof that Grothendieck 2-topoi are elementary 2-topoi. Our results also solve a problem posed by Hofmann and Streicher when attempting to lift Grothendieck universes to sheaves.

We prove that a group $\Gamma $ admits a discrete, topological (equivalently, smooth) action on some simply connected 3-manifold if and only if $\Gamma $ has a Cayley complex embeddable—with certain natural restrictions—in one of the following four 3-manifolds: (i) $\mathbb {S}^3$, (ii) $\mathbb {R}^3$, (iii) $\mathbb {S}^2 \times \mathbb R$, and (iv) the complement of a tame Cantor set in $\mathbb {S}^3$. The fact that these are the only simply connected 3-manifolds that allow such actions is a consequence of the Thurston–Perelman geometrization theorem.

We establish hyperweak boundedness of area functions, square functions, maximal operators, and Calderón–Zygmund operators on products of two stratified Lie groups.

We compute the class groups of full rank upper cluster algebras in terms of the exchange polynomials. This characterizes the UFDs among these algebras. Our results simultaneously generalize theorems of Garcia Elsener, Lampe, and Smertnig from 2019 and of Cao, Keller, and Qin from 2023. Furthermore, we show that every (upper) cluster algebra is a finite factorization domain.

In this article, we study a class of convective diffusive elliptic problem with Dirichlet boundary condition and measure data in variable exponent spaces. We begin by introducing an approximate problem via a truncation approach and Yosida’s regularization. Then, we apply the technique of maximal monotone operators in Banach spaces to obtain a sequence of approximate solutions. Finally, we pass to the limit and prove that this sequence of solutions converges to at least one weak or entropy solution of the original problem. Furthermore, under some additional assumptions on the convective diffusive term, we prove the uniqueness of the entropy solution.

We introduce the L-series of weakly holomorphic modular forms using Laplace transforms and give their functional equations. We then determine converse theorems for vector-valued harmonic weak Maass forms, Jacobi forms, and elliptic modular forms of half-integral weight in Kohnen plus space.

We define and study graphs associated to hexagon decompositions of surfaces by curves and arcs. One of the variants is shown to be quasi-isometric to the pants graph, whereas the other variant is quasi-isometric to (a Cayley graph of) the mapping class group.

In this paper, we compare the $\mathbb J$-stratification (or the semi-module stratification) and the Ekedahl–Oort stratification of affine Deligne–Lusztig varieties in the superbasic case. In particular, we classify the cases where the $\mathbb J$-stratification gives a refinement of the Ekedahl–Oort stratification, which include many interesting cases such that the affine Deligne-Lusztig variety admits a simple geometric structure.

This paper considers the planar N-body problem with a quasi-homogeneous potential given by

where $ m_k>0 $ are the masses and $C_{jk}= C_{kj}$ are nonzero real constants, and the exponent g being $ p> $1. Generalizing techniques of the classical N-body problem, we first characterize the periodic solutions that form a regular polygon (relative equilibria) with equal masses ($m_k= m$, $k=1, \ldots , N$) and equal constants $C_{jk}= C$, for all $j, k=1, \ldots , N$ (for short, N-gon solutions). Indeed, for $C>0$ we prove that there exists a unique regular N-gon solution for each fixed positive mass m. In contrast, for the case $C <0$, we demonstrate that there can be a maximum of two distinct regular N-gon solutions for a fixed positive mass m. More precisely, there is a range of values for the mass parameter m for which no solutions of the form of an N-gon exist. Furthermore, we examine the linear stability of these solutions, with a particular focus on the special case $ N=3 $, which is fully characterized.

Motivated by approaches to the word problem for one-relation monoids arising from work of Adian and Oganesian (1987), Guba (1997), and Ivanov, Margolis, and Meakin (2001), we study the submonoid and rational subset membership problems in one-relation monoids and in positive one-relator groups. We give the first known examples of positive one-relator groups with undecidable submonoid membership problem, and we apply this to give the first known examples of one-relation monoids with undecidable submonoid membership problem. We construct several infinite families of one-relation monoids with undecidable submonoid membership problem, including examples that are defined by relations of the form $w=1$ but which are not groups, and examples defined by relations of the form $u=v$ where both of u and v are nonempty. As a consequence, we obtain a classification of the right-angled Artin groups that can arise as subgroups of one-relation monoids. We also give examples of monoids with a single defining relation of the form $aUb = a$ and examples of the form $aUb=aVa$, with undecidable rational subset membership problem. We give a one-relator group defined by a freely reduced word of the form $uv^{-1}$ with $u, v$ positive words, in which the prefix membership problem is undecidable. Finally, we prove the existence of a special two-relator inverse monoid with undecidable word problem, and in which both the relators are positive words. As a corollary, we also find a positive two-relator group with undecidable prefix membership problem. In proving these results, we introduce new methods for proving undecidability of the rational subset membership problem in monoids and groups, including by finding suitable embeddings of certain trace monoids.

Let ${\mathcal {E}}$ be a complex elliptic curve and S be a non-empty finite subset of ${\mathcal {E}}$. We show that the functions $\tilde {\Gamma }$ introduced in [BDDT] out of string theory motivations give rise to a basis (as a vector space) of the minimal algebra $A_{{\mathcal {E}}{\smallsetminus } S}$ of holomorphic multivalued functions on ${\mathcal {E}}{\smallsetminus } S$ which is stable under integration, introduced in [EZ]; this basis is alternative to the basis of $A_{{\mathcal {E}}{\smallsetminus } S}$ constructed in loc. cit. using elliptic analogs of the hyperlogarithm functions.

Definable stationary sets, and specifically, ordinal definable ones, play a significant role in the study of canonical inner models of set theory and the class HOD of hereditarily ordinal definable sets. Fixing a certain notion of definability and an uncountable cardinal, one can consider the associated family of definable closed unbounded sets. In this paper, we study the extent to which such families can approximate the full closed unbounded filter and their dependence on the defining complexity. Focusing on closed unbounded subsets of a cardinal $\kappa $ which are $\Sigma _1$-definable in parameters from H${}_\kappa $ and ordinal parameters, we show that the ability of such closed unbounded sets to well approximate the closed unbounded filter on $\kappa $ can highly vary and strongly depends on key properties of the underlying universe of set theory.

We define oriented Temperley–Lieb algebras for Hermitian symmetric spaces. This allows us to explain the existence of closed combinatorial formulae for the Kazhdan–Lusztig polynomials for these spaces.

We extend the notion of ascent-compatibility from symmetric groups to all Coxeter groups, thereby providing a type-independent framework for constructing families of modules of $0$-Hecke algebras. We apply this framework in type B to give representation–theoretic interpretations of a number of noteworthy families of type-B quasisymmetric functions. Next, we construct modules of the type-B $0$-Hecke algebra corresponding to type-B analogs of Schur functions and introduce a type-B analog of Schur Q-functions; we prove that these shifted domino functions expand positively in the type-B peak functions. We define a type-B analog of the $0$-Hecke–Clifford algebra, and we use this to provide representation–theoretic interpretations for both the type-B peak functions and the shifted domino functions. We consider the modules of this algebra induced from type-B $0$-Hecke modules constructed via ascent-compatibility and prove a general formula, in terms of type-B peak functions, for the type-B quasisymmetric characteristics of the restrictions of these modules.
