The main theme of this paper is to study $\tau $-tilting subcategories in an abelian category $\mathscr {A}$ with enough projective objects. We introduce the notion of $\tau $-cotorsion torsion triples and investigate a bijection between the collection of $\tau $-cotorsion torsion triples in $\mathscr {A}$ and the collection of support $\tau $-tilting subcategories of $\mathscr {A}$, generalizing the bijection by Bauer, Botnan, Oppermann, and Steen between the collection of cotorsion torsion triples and the collection of tilting subcategories of $\mathscr {A}$. General definitions and results are exemplified using persistent modules. If $\mathscr {A}=\mathrm{Mod}\mbox {-}R$, where R is a unitary associative ring, we characterize all support $\tau $-tilting (resp. all support $\tau ^-$-tilting) subcategories of $\mathrm{Mod}\mbox {-}R$ in terms of finendo quasitilting (resp. quasicotilting) modules. As a result, it will be shown that every silting module (resp. every cosilting module) induces a support $\tau $-tilting (resp. support $\tau ^{-}$-tilting) subcategory of $\mathrm{Mod}\mbox {-}R$. We also study the theory in $\mathrm {Rep}(Q, \mathscr {A})$, where Q is a finite and acyclic quiver. In particular, we give an algorithm to construct support $\tau $-tilting subcategories in $\mathrm {Rep}(Q, \mathscr {A})$ from certain support $\tau $-tilting subcategories of $\mathscr {A}$.

We discuss a strategy for classifying anomalous actions through model action absorption. We use this to upgrade existing classification results for Rokhlin actions of finite groups on C$^*$-algebras, with further assuming a UHF-absorption condition, to a classification of anomalous actions on these C$^*$-algebras.

Dispersive and Strichartz estimates are obtained for solutions to the wave equation with a Laguerre potential in spatial dimension three. To obtain the desired dispersive estimate, based on the spectral properties of the Schrödinger operator involved, we subsequently prove the dispersive estimate for the corresponding Schrödinger semigroup, obtain a Gaussian-type upper bound, establish Bernstein-type inequalities, and finally pass to the Müller–Seeger’s subordination formula. The desired Strichartz estimates follow by the established dispersive estimate and the standard argument of Keel–Tao.

We generalize to a broader class of decoupled measures a result of Ziv and Merhav on universal estimation of the specific cross (or relative) entropy, originally for a pair of multilevel Markov measures. Our generalization focuses on abstract decoupling conditions and covers pairs of suitably regular g-measures and pairs of equilibrium measures arising from the “small space of interactions” in mathematical statistical mechanics.

In this paper, we apply the theory of algebraic cohomology to study the amenability of Thompson’s group $\mathcal {F}$. We introduce the notion of unique factorization semigroup which contains Thompson’s semigroup $\mathcal {S}$ and the free semigroup $\mathcal {F}_n$ on n ($\geq 2$) generators. Let $\mathfrak {B}(\mathcal {S})$ and $\mathfrak {B}(\mathcal {F}_n)$ be the Banach algebras generated by the left regular representations of $\mathcal {S}$ and $\mathcal {F}_n$, respectively. We prove that all derivations on $\mathfrak {B}(\mathcal {S})$ and $\mathfrak {B}(\mathcal {F}_n)$ are automatically continuous, and every derivation on $\mathfrak {B}(\mathcal {S})$ is induced by a bounded linear operator in $\mathcal {L}(\mathcal {S})$, the weak-operator closed Banach algebra consisting of all bounded left convolution operators on $l^2(\mathcal {S})$. Moreover, we prove that the first continuous Hochschild cohomology group of $\mathfrak {B}(\mathcal {S})$ with coefficients in $\mathcal {L}(\mathcal {S})$ vanishes. These conclusions provide positive indications for the left amenability of Thompson’s semigroup.

The central theme of this paper is the holomorphic spectral theory of the canonical Laplace operator of the complement of the “complexified unit circle” $\{(z,w) \in \widehat {{\mathbb C}}^2 \colon z \cdot w = 1\}$. We start by singling out a distinguished set of holomorphic eigenfunctions on the bidisk in terms of hypergeometric ${}_2F_1$ functions and prove that they provide a spectral decomposition of every holomorphic eigenfunction on the bidisk. As a second step, we identify the maximal domains of definition of these eigenfunctions and show that these maximal domains naturally determine the fine structure of the eigenspaces. Our main result gives an intrinsic classification of all closed Möbius invariant subspaces of eigenspaces of the canonical Laplacian of $\Omega $. Generalizing foundational prior work of Helgason and Rudin, this provides a unifying complex analytic framework for the real-analytic eigenvalue theories of both the hyperbolic and spherical Laplace operators on the open unit disk resp. the Riemann sphere and, in particular, shows how they are interrelated with one another.

Let $\mathfrak {g}$ be a complex semisimple Lie algebra with associated Yangian $Y_{\hbar }\mathfrak {g}$. In the mid-1990s, Khoroshkin and Tolstoy formulated a conjecture which asserts that the algebra $\mathrm {D}Y_{\hbar }\mathfrak {g}$ obtained by doubling the generators of $Y_{\hbar }\mathfrak {g}$, called the Yangian double, provides a realization of the quantum double of the Yangian. We provide a uniform proof of this conjecture over $\mathbb {C}[\kern-1.2pt\![{\hbar }]\!\kern-1.2pt]$ which is compatible with the theory of quantized enveloping algebras. As a by-product, we identify the universal R-matrix of the Yangian with the canonical element defined by the pairing between the Yangian and its restricted dual.

Irregular cusps of an orthogonal modular variety are cusps where the lattice for Fourier expansion is strictly smaller than the lattice of translation. The presence of such a cusp affects the study of pluricanonical forms on the modular variety using modular forms. We study toroidal compactification over an irregular cusp, and clarify there the cusp form criterion for the calculation of Kodaira dimension. At the same time, we show that irregular cusps do not arise frequently: besides the cases when the group is neat or contains $-1$, we prove that the stable orthogonal groups of most (but not all) even lattices have no irregular cusp.

Consider the family of automorphic L-functions associated with primitive cusp forms of level one, ordered by weight k. Assuming that k tends to infinity, we prove a new approximation formula for the cubic moment of shifted L-values over this family which relates it to the fourth moment of the Riemann zeta function. More precisely, the formula includes a conjectural main term, the fourth moment of the Riemann zeta function and error terms of size smaller than that predicted by the recipe conjectures.

We investigate the notion of tracial ${\mathcal {Z}}$-stability beyond unital $\mathrm {C}^*$-algebras, and we prove that this notion is equivalent to ${\mathcal {Z}}$-stability in the class of separable simple nuclear $\mathrm {C}^*$-algebras.
