The purpose of this paper is to obtain some common fixed point theorems for a family of mappings in a complete metric space. The results herein improve some of the recent theorems of Kiyoshi Iséki (Bull. Austral. Math. Soc. 10 (1974), 365–370).

There is a natural Galois connection between subspace lattices and operator algebras on a Banach space which arises from the notion of invariance. If a subspace lattice ℒ is completely distributive, then ℒ is reflexive. In this paper we study the more general situation of complete lattices for which the least complete congruence δ on ℒ such that ℒ/δ is completely distributive is well-behaved. Our results are purely lattice theoretic, but the motivation comes from operator theory.

We discuss the problem of constructing elements of multiplicative high order in finite fields of large degree over their prime field. We obtain such elements by evaluating rational functions on elliptic curves, at points whose order is small with respect to their degree. We discuss several special cases, including an old construction of Wiedemann, giving the first nontrivial estimate for the order of the elements in this construction.

We establish the existence of solutions for the elliptic systems on ℝN: such that u, v ∈ W1, 2(ℝN), where with q(x)→∞ as |x| → ∞ and (x, u, v) being superlinear or sublinear as .

We give some sufficient conditions for the periodicity of entire functions based on a conjecture of C. C. Yang, using the concepts of value sharing, unique polynomial of entire functions and Picard exceptional value.

In this paper we study the existence of positive periodic solutions to second-order singular differential equations with the sign-changing potential. Both the repulsive case and the attractive case are studied. The proof is based on Schauder’s fixed point theorem. Recent results in the literature are generalized and significantly improved.

Let $X$ and $Y$ be two normed spaces over fields $\mathbb{F}$ and $\mathbb{K}$, respectively. We prove new generalised hyperstability results for the general linear equation of the form $g(ax+by)=Ag(x)+Bg(y)$, where $g:X\rightarrow Y$ is a mapping and $a,b\in \mathbb{F}$, $A,B\in \mathbb{K}\backslash \{0\}$, using a modification of the method of Brzdęk [‘Stability of additivity and fixed point methods’, Fixed Point Theory Appl.2013 (2013), Art. ID 285, 9 pages]. The hyperstability results of Piszczek [‘Hyperstability of the general linear functional equation’, Bull. Korean Math. Soc.52 (2015), 1827–1838] can be derived from our main result.

We announce a number of results on the existence of solutions of nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems in the case where the dominating linear part is not invertible. Our theorems improve recent results of Landesman and Lazer, and Williams.

To each pseudovariety of Abelian groups residually containing the integers, there is naturally associated a profinite topology on any finite rank free Abelian group. We show in this paper that if the pseudovariety in question has a decidable membership problem, then one can effectively compute membership in the closure of a subgroup and, more generally, in the closure of a rational subset of such a free Abelian group. Several applications to monoid kernels and finite monoid theory are discussed.

In this paper we establish a fixed point theorem for 2-metric spaces. Some interesting particular cases of this theorem are also obtained.

A homomorphism f: R → T of (commutative) rings is said to be universally incomparable in case each base change R → S induces an incomparable map S → S⊗RT. The most natural examples of universally incomparable homomorphisms are the integral maps and radiciel maps. It is proved that a homomorphism f: R → T is universally incomparable if and only if f is an incomparable map which induces algebraic field extensions of fibres, k(f-1(Q))→k(Q), for each prime ideal Q of T. In several cases (f algebra-finite, T generated as R-algebra by primitive elements, T an overring of a one-dimensional Noetherian domain R), each universally incomparable map is shown to factor as a composite of an integral map and a special kind of radiciel.

We exhibit the double $q$-shuffle structure for the $q$MZVs introduced by Ohno et al. [‘Cyclic $q$-MZSV sum’, J. Number Theory132 (2012), 144–155].

In this paper, we discuss the H1L-boundedness of commutators of Riesz transforms associated with the Schrödinger operator L=−△+V, where H1L(Rn) is the Hardy space associated with L. We assume that V (x) is a nonzero, nonnegative potential which belongs to Bq for some q>n/2. Let T1=V (x)(−△+V )−1, T2=V1/2(−△+V )−1/2 and T3 =∇(−△+V )−1/2. We prove that, for b∈BMO (Rn) , the commutator [b,T3 ] is not bounded from H1L(Rn) to L1 (Rn) as T3 itself. As an alternative, we obtain that [b,Ti ] , ( i=1,2,3 ) are of (H1L,L1weak) -boundedness.

This work is concerned with the forced convection of heat in a circular tube. The fluid flow is assumed to be laminar Poiseuille flow, and the physical parameters; viscosity, density, conductivity; are assumed to be independent of temperature changes. Viscous dissipation terms are also ignored, and there are no heat sources in the fluid. The problem is treated for the case of a step change in the wall temperature, and the eigenvalues have been obtained as an expansion in powers of the Péclet number for the smaller values, and in an asymptotic form for the larger values. The temperature distribution in the fluid in the neighbourhood of the temperature jump has been calculated for two values of the Péclet number, as have the Nusselt numbers.

We show that each abelian l–group G is a large l–subgroup of a minimal vector lattice V and if G is archimedean then V is unique, in fact, V is the l–subspace of (Gd)^ that is generated by G, where Gd is the divisible hull of G and (Gd)^ is the Dedekind-MacNeille completion of Gd. If G is non-archimedean then V need not be unique, even if G is totally ordered.

The object of this paper is to study a stochastic discrete system, including an operator T, of the form

where ω ∈ Ω, the supporting set of probability measure space (Ω, A, P) and n ∈ N, the set of nonnegative integers. We are concerned vith the existence, uniqueness, boundedness, and asymptotic behavior of random solutions of the above equation.

A subset $X$ of a group $G$ is a set of pairwise noncommuting elements if $ab\neq ba$ for any two distinct elements $a$ and $b$ in $X$. If $|X|\geq |Y|$ for any other set of pairwise noncommuting elements $Y$ in $G$, then $X$ is called a maximal subset of pairwise noncommuting elements and the cardinality of such a subset (if it exists) is denoted by ${\it\omega}(G)$. In this paper, among other things, we prove that, for each positive integer $n$, there are only finitely many groups $G$, up to isoclinism, with ${\it\omega}(G)=n$, and we obtain similar results for groups with exactly $n$ centralisers.

A new deformation lemma for functions satisfying the Palais-Smale condition on a real Banach space is obtained. This is used to deduce some critical point theorems which are extensions of some well known results.

Semi-hyperbolic dynamical systems generated by Lipschitz mappings are shown to be exponentially expansive, locally at least, and explicit rates of expansion are determined. The result is applicable to nonsmooth noninvertible systems such as those with hysteresis effects as well as to classical systems involving hyperbolic diffeomorphisms.
