In this article, we introduce and study the notion of Goldie dimension for C*-algebras. We prove that a C*-algebra A has Goldie dimension n if and only if the dimension of the center of its local multiplier algebra is n. In this case, A has finite-dimensional center and its primitive spectrum is extremally disconnected. If moreover, A is extending, we show that it decomposes into a direct sum of n prime C*-algebras. In particular, every stably finite, exact C*-algebra with Goldie dimension, that has the projection property and a strictly full element, admits a full projection and a non-zero densely defined lower semi-continuous trace. Finally we show that certain C*-algebras with Goldie dimension (not necessarily simple, separable or nuclear) are classifiable by the Elliott invariant.

We show that the Hilbert bimodule associated with a compact topological graph can be recovered from the $C^*$-algebraic triple consisting of the Toeplitz algebra of the graph, its gauge action and the commutative subalgebra of functions on the vertex space of the graph. We discuss connections with work of Davidson–Katsoulis and of Davidson–Roydor on local conjugacy of topological graphs and isomorphism of their tensor algebras. In particular, we give a direct proof that a compact topological graph can be recovered up to local conjugacy from its Hilbert bimodule, and present an example of nonisomorphic locally conjugate compact topological graphs with isomorphic Hilbert bimodules. We also give an elementary proof that for compact topological graphs with totally disconnected vertex space the notions of local conjugacy, Hilbert bimodule isomorphism, isomorphism of $C^*$-algebraic triples, and isomorphism all coincide.

We apply a method inspired by Popa's intertwining-by-bimodules technique to investigate inner conjugacy of MASAs in graph $C^*$-algebras. First, we give a new proof of non-inner conjugacy of the diagonal MASA ${\mathcal {D}}_E$ to its non-trivial image under a quasi-free automorphism, where $E$ is a finite transitive graph. Changing graphs representing the algebras, this result applies to some non quasi-free automorphisms as well. Then, we exhibit a large class of MASAs in the Cuntz algebra ${\mathcal {O}}_n$ that are not inner conjugate to the diagonal ${\mathcal {D}}_n$.

We study the invariance of KMS states on graph $C^{\ast }$-algebras coming from strongly connected and circulant graphs under the classical and quantum symmetry of the graphs. We show that the unique KMS state for strongly connected graphs is invariant under the quantum automorphism group of the graph. For circulant graphs, it is shown that the action of classical and quantum automorphism groups preserves only one of the KMS states occurring at the critical inverse temperature. We also give an example of a graph $C^{\ast }$-algebra having more than one KMS state such that all of them are invariant under the action of classical automorphism group of the graph, but there is a unique KMS state which is invariant under the action of quantum automorphism group of the graph.

We show how to reconstruct a finite directed graph E from its Toeplitz algebra, its gauge action, and the canonical finite-dimensional abelian subalgebra generated by the vertex projections. We also show that if E has no sinks, then we can recover E from its Toeplitz algebra and the generalized gauge action that has, for each vertex, an independent copy of the circle acting on the generators corresponding to edges emanating from that vertex. We show by example that it is not possible to recover E from its Toeplitz algebra and gauge action alone.

The study of graph ${{C}^{*}}$-algebras has a long history in operator algebras. Surprisingly, their quantum symmetries have not yet been computed. We close this gap by proving that the quantum automorphism group of a finite, directed graph without multiple edges acts maximally on the corresponding graph ${{C}^{*}}$-algebra. This shows that the quantum symmetry of a graph coincides with the quantum symmetry of the graph ${{C}^{*}}$-algebra. In our result, we use the definition of quantum automorphism groups of graphs as given by Banica in 2005. Note that Bichon gave a different definition in 2003; our action is inspired from his work. We review and compare these two definitions and we give a complete table of quantum automorphism groups (with respect to either of the two definitions) for undirected graphs on four vertices.

In Hazrat gave a K-theoretic invariant for Leavitt path algebras as graded algebras. Hazrat conjectured that this invariant classifies Leavitt path algebras up to graded isomorphism, and proved the conjecture in some cases. In this paper, we prove that a weak version of the conjecture holds for all finite essential graphs.
