We propose a notion of a proper Ehresmann semigroup based on a three-coordinate description of its generating elements governed by certain labelled directed graphs with additional structure. The generating elements are determined by their domain projection, range projection and σ-class, where σ denotes the minimum congruence that identifies all projections. We prove a structure result on proper Ehresmann semigroups and show that every Ehresmann semigroup has a proper cover. Our covering monoid turns out to be isomorphic to that from the work by Branco, Gomes and Gould and provides a new view of the latter. Proper Ehresmann semigroups all of whose elements admit a three-coordinate description are characterized in terms of partial multiactions of monoids on semilattices. As a consequence, we recover the two-coordinate structure result on proper restriction semigroups.

We prove Lp norm convergence for (appropriate truncations of) the Fourier series arising from the Dirichlet Laplacian eigenfunctions on three types of triangular domains in $\mathbb{R}^2$: (i) the 45-90-45 triangle, (ii) the equilateral triangle and (iii) the hemiequilateral triangle (i.e. half an equilateral triangle cut along its height). The limitations of our argument to these three types are discussed in light of Lamé’s Theorem and the image method.

In a recent paper, motivated by the study of central extensions of associative algebras, George Janelidze introduces the notion of weakly action representable category. In this paper, we show that the category of Leibniz algebras is weakly action representable and we characterize the class of acting morphisms. Moreover, we study the representability of actions of the category of Poisson algebras and we prove that the subvariety of commutative Poisson algebras is not weakly action representable.

Dold manifolds $P(m,n)$ are certain twisted complex projective space bundles over real projective spaces and serve as generators for the unoriented cobordism algebra of smooth manifolds. The paper investigates the structure of finite groups that act freely on products of Dold manifolds. It is proved that if a finite group G acts freely and $ \mathbb{Z}_2 $ cohomologically trivially on a finite CW-complex homotopy equivalent to ${\prod_{i=1}^{k} P(2m_i,n_i)}$, then $G\cong (\mathbb{Z}_2)^l$ for some $l\leq k$ (see Theorem A for the exact bound). We also determine some bounds in the case when for each i, ni is even and mi is arbitrary. As a consequence, the free rank of symmetry of these manifolds is determined for cohomologically trivial actions.

We provide a simple condition on rational cohomology for the total space of a pullback fibration over a connected sum to have the rational homotopy type of a connected sum after looping. This takes inspiration from a recent work of Jeffrey and Selick, in which they study pullback fibrations of this type but under stronger hypotheses compared to our result.

Pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with parallel Weyl tensor that are not conformally flat or locally symmetric, also known as essentially conformally symmetric (ECS) manifolds, have a natural local invariant, the rank, which equals 1 or 2, and is the rank of a certain distinguished null parallel distribution $\mathcal{D}$. All known examples of compact ECS manifolds are of rank one and have dimensions greater than 4. We prove that a compact rank-one ECS manifold, if not locally homogeneous, replaced when necessary by a twofold isometric covering, must be a bundle over the circle with leaves of $\mathcal{D}^\perp$ serving as the fibres. The same conclusion holds in the locally homogeneous case if one assumes that $\,\mathcal{D}^\perp$ has at least one compact leaf. We also show that in the pseudo-Riemannian universal covering space of any compact rank-one ECS manifold, the leaves of $\mathcal{D}^\perp$ are the factor manifolds of a global product decomposition.

We classify the subpencils of complete linear systems for the hyperplane sections on K3 surfaces obtained as the complete intersection of a hyperquadric and a hypercubic. The classification is done from three points of view, namely, the type of a general fibre, the base locus and the Horikawa index of the essential member. This classification shows the distinct phenomenons depending on the rank of the hyperquadrics containing the surface.

In this article, using an Halpern extragradient method, we study a new iterative scheme for finding a common element of the set of solutions of multiple set split equality equilibrium problems consisting of pseudomonotone bifunctions and the set of fixed points for two finite families of Bregman quasi-nonexpansive mappings in the framework of p-uniformly convex Banach spaces, which are also uniformly smooth. For this purpose, we design an algorithm so that it does not depend on prior estimates of the Lipschitz-type constants for the pseudomonotone bifunctions. Furthermore, we present an application of our study for finding a common element of the set of solutions of multiple set split equality variational inequality problems and fixed point sets for two finite families of Bregman quasi-nonexpansive mappings. Finally, we conclude with two numerical experiments to support our proposed algorithm.

Given a graph G without loops, the pseudograph associahedron PG is a smooth polytope, so there is a projective smooth toric variety XG corresponding to PG. Taking the real locus of XG, we have the projective smooth real toric variety $X^{\mathbb{R}}_G$. The integral cohomology groups of $X^{\mathbb{R}}_G$ can be computed by studying the topology of certain posets of even subgraphs of G; such a poset is neither pure nor shellable in general. We completely characterize the graphs whose posets of even subgraphs are always shellable. It follows that we get a family of projective smooth real toric varieties whose integral cohomology groups are torsion-free or have only 2-torsion.

Assume that f is a real ρ-harmonic function of the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ onto the interval $(-1,1)$, where $\rho(u,v)=R(u)$ is a metric defined in the infinite strip $(-1,1)\times \mathbb{R}$. Then we prove that $|\nabla f(z)|(1-|z|^2)\le \frac{4}{\pi}(1-f(z)^2)$ for all $z\in\mathbb{D}$, provided that ρ has a non-negative Gaussian curvature. This extends several results in the field and answers to a conjecture proposed by the first author in 2014. Such an inequality is not true for negatively curved metrics.

The local classification of Kaehler submanifolds $M^{2n}$ of the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{2n+p}$ with low codimension $2\leq p\leq n-1$ under only intrinsic assumptions remains a wide open problem. The situation is quite different for submanifolds in the round sphere $\mathbb{S}^{2n+p}$, $2\leq p\leq n-1$, since Florit et al. [7] have shown that the codimension has to be $p=n-1$ and then that any submanifold is just part of an extrinsic product of two-dimensional umbilical spheres in $\mathbb{S}^{3n-1}\subset\mathbb{R}^{3n}$. The main result of this paper is a version for Kaehler manifolds isometrically immersed into the hyperbolic ambient space of the result in [7] for spherical submanifolds. Besides, we generalize several results obtained by Dajczer and Vlachos [5].

In this paper, we address the issue of synchronization of coupled systems, introducing concepts of local and global synchronization for a class of systems that extend the model of coupled map lattices. A criterion for local synchronization is given; numerical experiments are exhibited to illustrate the criteria and also to raise some questions in the end of the text.

For real number x, let $A(-x,x)$ be the number of elements $a\in A$ with $-x\leqslant a\leqslant x$. The famous Erdős-Turán Conjecture states that if A is a set of positive integers such that $r_A(n)\geqslant 1$ for all sufficiently large n, then $\limsup_{n\rightarrow\infty}r_A(n)=\infty$. In 2004, Nešetřil and Serra initially introduced the notation of “bounded” property and confirmed the Erdős-Turán conjecture for a class of bounded bases. They also proved that, there exists a set A of integers satisfying $r_A(n)=1$ for all integers n and $|S(x)\bigcup S(y)|\leqslant 4|S(x+y)|$ for $x,y\in A$. On the other hand, Nathanson proved that there exists a set A of integers such that $r_A(n)=1$ for all integers n and $2\log x/\log 5+c_1\leqslant A(-x,x)\leqslant 2\log x/\log 3+c_2$ for all $x\geqslant 1$, where $c_1,c_2$ are absolute constants. In this paper, following these results, we prove that, there exists a set A of integers such that: $r_A(n)=1$ for all integers n and $d_A(n)=1$ for all positive integers n, $|S(x)\bigcup S(y)|\leqslant 4|S(x+y)|$ for $x,y\in A$ and $A(-x,x) \gt (4/\log 5)\log\log x+c$ for all $x\geqslant 1$, where c is an absolute constant. Furthermore, we also construct a family of arbitrarily spare such sets A.

Let ${\overline{p}}(n)$ denote the overpartition function. In this paper, we study the asymptotic higher-order log-concavity property of the overpartition function in a similar framework done by Hou and Zhang for the partition function. This will enable us to move on further in order to prove log-concavity of overpartitions, explicitly by studying the asymptotic expansion of the quotient ${\overline{p}}(n-1){\overline{p}}(n+1)/{\overline{p}}(n)^2$ up to a certain order. This enables us to additionally prove 2-log-concavity and higher Turán inequalities with a unified approach.

Let $\mathbb F$ be a finite field of odd order and $a,b\in\mathbb F\setminus\{0,1\}$ be such that $\chi(a) = \chi(b)$ and $\chi(1-a)=\chi(1-b)$, where χ is the extended quadratic character on $\mathbb F$. Let $Q_{a,b}$ be the quasigroup over $\mathbb F$ defined by $(x,y)\mapsto x+a(y-x)$ if $\chi(y-x) \geqslant 0$, and $(x,y)\mapsto x+b(y-x)$ if $\chi(y-x) = -1$. We show that $Q_{a,b} \cong Q_{c,d}$ if and only if $\{a,b\}= \{\alpha(c),\alpha(d)\}$ for some $\alpha\in \operatorname{Aut}(\mathbb F)$. We also characterize $\operatorname{Aut}(Q_{a,b})$ and exhibit further properties, including establishing when $Q_{a,b}$ is a Steiner quasigroup or is commutative, entropic, left or right distributive, flexible or semisymmetric. In proving our results, we also characterize the minimal subquasigroups of $Q_{a,b}$.

Let G be a Baumslag–Solitar group. We calculate the intersection $\gamma_{\omega}(G)$ of all terms of the lower central series of G. Using this, we show that $[\gamma_{\omega}(G),G]=\gamma_{\omega}(G)$, thus answering a question of Bardakov and Neschadim [1]. For any $c \in \mathbb{N}$, with $c \geq 2$, we show, by using Lie algebra methods, that the quotient group $\gamma_{c}(G)/\gamma_{c+1}(G)$ of the lower central series of G is finite.

We consider three different families of Vafa–Witten invariants of $K3$ surfaces. In each case, the partition function that encodes the Vafa–Witten invariants is given by combinations of twisted Dedekind η-functions. By utilizing known properties of these η-functions, we obtain exact formulae for each of the invariants and prove that they asymptotically satisfy all higher-order Turán inequalities.

For a general autonomous planar polynomial differential system, it is difficult to find conditions that are easy to verify and which guarantee global asymptotic stability, weakening the Markus–Yamabe condition. In this paper, we provide three conditions that guarantee the global asymptotic stability for polynomial differential systems of the form $x^{\prime}=f_1(x,y)$, $y^{\prime}=f_2(x,y)$, where f1 has degree one, f2 has degree $n\ge 1$ and has degree one in the variable y. As a consequence, we provide sufficient conditions, weaker than the Markus–Yamabe conditions that guarantee the global asymptotic stability for any generalized Liénard polynomial differential system of the form $x^{\prime}=y$, $y^{\prime}=g_1(x) +y g_2(x)$ with g1 and g2 polynomials of degrees n and m, respectively.

It is argued that a nonsingular elliptic curve admits a natural or fundamental abelian heap structure uniquely determined by the curve itself. It is shown that the set of complex analytic or rational functions from a nonsingular elliptic curve to itself is a truss arising from endomorphisms of this heap.
