The theory of classification of homogeneous bounded domains in the complex number space Cn has been developed mainly in the recent papers [10], [6], [3] and [7]. As a result, the classification is reduced to that of S-algebras due to Takeuchi [7] which correspond to irreducible Siegel domains of type I or type II (For the definition of irreducibility see § 1). On the other hand Pjateckii-Sapiro [5] found large classes of homogeneous Siegel domains obtained from classical self-dual cones. Even in lower-dimensional cases, however, there are still homogeneous Siegel domains which do not appear in his results.

In 1953 N. Itô defined the conjugate rank of a finite group as the number of distinct sizes, not equal to 1, of the conjugacy classes of the group [7].

The main object of this paper is to develop techniques for investigating the local properties of actions of an algebraic group on an algebraic variety. Our main tools are certain schemes which may be associated to Lie algebras.

It is well-known that an Anosov diffeomorphism f on a compact manifold is structurally stable in the space of all C1-diffeomorphisms, with the C1-topology (Anosov [1]). In this paper we show that f is also structurally stable in the space of all lipeomorphisms, with a lipschitz topology. The proof is similar to that of the C1-case by J. Moser [4].

L. Carleson ([6]) proved the following theorem:

Let u be a finite continuous function in the unit open ball B with center zero in the complex plane.

Wagner [5] and Ito [2] proved the following theorems respectively.

THEOREM OF WAGNER. Let G be a triply transitive permutation group on a set Ω = {1,2, …, n}, and let n be odd and n > 4. If H is a normal subgroup (≠1) of G, then H is also triply transitive on Ω.

In the present note we associate a certain algebra of finite rank over Q to each non-singular polarized algebraic variety defined over C. For a surface the algebra is a Jordan algebra with identity, and for an abelian variety A the algebra is canonically isomorphic to the Jordan algebra of symmetric elements in EndQ(A) with respect to the involution induced by the polarization. This algebra may be important for a polarized algebraic variety as much as EndQ(A) for an abelian variety A.

We denote by PB(R) the Banach space of solutions of the equation Δu = Pu on R with finite supremum norms. We are interested in the question how the Banach space structure of PB(R) depends on P. Precisely we consider two such 2-forms P and Q on R and compare PB(R) and QB(R). If there exists a bijective linear isometry T of PB(R) to QB(R), then we say that PB(R) and QB(R) are isomorphic.

We shall consider the optimal control for a system governed by a stochastic differential equation

where u(t, x) is an admissible control and W(t) is a standard Wiener process. By an optimal control we mean a control which minimizes the cost and in addition makes the corresponding Markov process stable.

In [1] we derived a generalization of Kronecker’s first limit formula. Our generalization was a limit formula for the Eisenstein series for an arbitrary cusp of a Fuchsian group Γ of the first kind operating on the complex upper half-plane H. In that work, we introduced Dedekind sums associated to the principal congruence subgroups Γ(N) of the elliptic modular group. The work of our preceding paper suggests a natural question: Is there a generalization of Kronecker’s second limit formula to the setting of a general Fuchsian group of the first kind? The answer to this question is the subject of this paper.

In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a unitary operator on an L2-space to be induced by a nonsingular transformation and its applications.
