We study the complete Kähler–Einstein metric of certain Hartogs domains ${\rm\Omega}_{s}$ over bounded homogeneous domains in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$. The generating function of the Kähler–Einstein metric satisfies a complex Monge–Ampère equation with Dirichlet boundary condition. We reduce the Monge–Ampère equation to an ordinary differential equation and solve it explicitly when we take the parameter $s$ for some critical value. This generalizes previous results when the base is either the Euclidean unit ball or a bounded symmetric domain.

Starting from the reciprocity law for Gaussian sums attached to an integral quadratic form we prove functional equations for a new kind of Dirichlet series in two variables. For special values of one variable they are of Hecke type with respect to the other variable. With Weil’s converse theorem we derive automorphic functions which generalize Siegel’s genus invariant and the automorphic functions of Cohen and Zagier.

We study the deformation theory of elliptic fiber bundles over curves in positive characteristics. As applications, we give examples of nonliftable elliptic surfaces in characteristics 2 and 3, which answer a question of Katsura and Ueno. Also, we construct a class of elliptic fibrations, whose liftability is equivalent to a conjecture of Oort concerning the liftability of automorphisms of curves. Finally, we classify deformations of bielliptic surfaces.

We prove that the generalized Hilbert–Kunz function of a graded module $M$ over a two-dimensional standard graded normal $K$-domain over an algebraically closed field $K$ of prime characteristic $p$ has the form $gHK(M,q)=e_{gHK}(M)q^{2}+\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}(q)$, with rational generalized Hilbert–Kunz multiplicity $e_{gHK}(M)$ and a bounded function $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}(q)$. Moreover, we prove that if $R$ is a $\mathbb{Z}$-algebra, the limit for $p\rightarrow +\infty$ of the generalized Hilbert–Kunz multiplicity $e_{gHK}^{R_{p}}(M_{p})$ over the fibers $R_{p}$ exists, and it is a rational number.

We collect some statements regarding equivalence of the parities of various class numbers and signature ranks of units in prime power cyclotomic fields. We correct some misstatements in the literature regarding these parities by providing an example of a prime cyclotomic field where the signature rank of the units and the signature rank of the circular units are not equal.

It is R. Penrose who constructed the twistor theory which gives a correspondence between complex space-times and 3-dimensional complex manifolds called twistor spaces. He and his colleagues investigated conformally invariant equations (e.g. massless field equations, self-dual Yang-Mills equations) on the space-time by transforming them into objects in complex analytical geometry. See e.g. Penrose-Ward [P-W] or Ward-Wells [W-W]. After that, Atiyah-Hitchin-Singer ([A-H-S], cf. [Fr]) constructed the twistor spaces corresponding to real 4-dimensional Riemannian manifolds. Their construction as well as that of Penrose is mainly effective under the condition of the self-duality. In this paper we will construct twistor spaces more geometrically from real 4-dimensional Lorentzian manifolds under a suitable curvature condition.

We shall prove in Chapter I the hypoellipticity for a class of degenerate elliptic operators of higher order. Chapter II will be devoted to the consideration of the regularity at the boundary for the solutions of general boundary problems for the equations considered in Chapter I being restricted to the second order.

It is well-known that an Anosov diffeomorphism f on a compact manifold is structurally stable in the space of all C1-diffeomorphisms, with the C1-topology (Anosov [1]). In this paper we show that f is also structurally stable in the space of all lipeomorphisms, with a lipschitz topology. The proof is similar to that of the C1-case by J. Moser [4].

Wagner [5] and Ito [2] proved the following theorems respectively.

THEOREM OF WAGNER. Let G be a triply transitive permutation group on a set Ω = {1,2, …, n}, and let n be odd and n > 4. If H is a normal subgroup (≠1) of G, then H is also triply transitive on Ω.

It is well known that for the family F of Riemann surfaces {R(z)} defined by the equations y2 = x(x — l)(x — z), zεC — {0,1}, we have one independent abelian differential ω = y−1dx on each R(z) and if we consider z as a parameter on C — {0,1}, the integrals are solutions of the Gauss’s differential equation

According to Kazhdan-Lusztig and Ginzburg, the Hecke algebra of an affine Weyl group is identified with the equivariant K-group of Steinberg’s triple variety. The K-group is equipped with a filtration indexed by closed G-stable subvarieties of the nilpotent variety, where G is the corresponding reductive algebraic group over ℂ. In this paper we will show in the case of type A that the filtration is compatible with the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis of the Hecke algebra.

Let T be the unit circle on the complex plane, H2(T) be the usual Hardy space on T, Tø be the Toeplitz operator with symbol Cowen showed that if f1 and f2 are functions in H such that is in Lø, then Tf is hyponormal if and only if for some constant c and some function g in H∞ with Using it, T. Nakazi and K. Takahashi showed that the symbol of hyponormal Toeplitz operator Tø satisfies and and they described the ø solving the functional equation above. Both of their conditions are hard to check, T. Nakazi and K. Takahashi remarked that even “the question about polynomials is still open” [2]. Kehe Zhu gave a computing process by way of Schur’s functions so that we can determine any given polynomial ø such that Tø is hyponormal [3]. Since no closed-form for the general Schur’s function is known, it is still valuable to find an explicit expression for the condition of a polynomial á such that Tø is hyponormal and depends only on the coefficients of ø, here we have one, it is elementary and relatively easy to check. We begin with the most general case and the following Lemma is essential.

The purpose of this paper is to study threefolds X, with negative Kodaira dimension k(X) and positive irregularity q(X), defined over the complex field C.

Let $K=\mathbb{F}_{q}(T)$ and $A=\mathbb{F}_{q}[T]$. Suppose that $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}$ is a Drinfeld $A$-module of rank $2$ over $K$ which does not have complex multiplication. We obtain an explicit upper bound (dependent on $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}$) on the degree of primes ${\wp}$ of $K$ such that the image of the Galois representation on the ${\wp}$-torsion points of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}$ is not surjective, in the case of $q$ odd. Our results are a Drinfeld module analogue of Serre’s explicit large image results for the Galois representations on $p$-torsion points of elliptic curves (Serre, Propriétés galoisiennes des points d’ordre fini des courbes elliptiques, Invent. Math. 15 (1972), 259–331; Serre, Quelques applications du théorème de densité de Chebotarev, Inst. Hautes Etudes Sci. Publ. Math. 54 (1981), 323–401.) and are unconditional because the generalized Riemann hypothesis for function fields holds. An explicit isogeny theorem for Drinfeld $A$-modules of rank $2$ over $K$ is also proven.

Improving and clarifying a construction of Horowitz and Shelah, we show how to construct (in $\mathsf {ZF}$, i.e., without using the Axiom of Choice) maximal cofinitary groups. Among the groups we construct, one is definable by a formula in second-order arithmetic with only a few natural number quantifiers.

We characterize numbers having purely periodic β-expansions where β is a Pisot number satisfying a certain irreducible polynomial. The main tool of the proof is to construct a natural extension on a d-dimensional domain with a fractal boundary.

Let Ω be a proper subdomain of ℝn, n ≥ 2, and let x0∈ Ω be fixed. By GΩ and KΩ we denote the Green function and the Martin kernel for Ω, respectively. Under a certain assumption on Ω near a boundary point ξ, we show that the product GΩ(x, x0)KΩ(x, ξ) is comparable to |x - ξ|2-n for x in a nontangential cone with vertex at ξ. We also give an estimate for the product KΩ(x, ξ)KΩ(x,η) in a uniform domain, where η is another boundary point.

It is well-known that all geodesics on a Riemannian symmetric space of rank one are congruent each other under the action of isometry group. Being concerned with circles, we also know that two closed circles in a real space form are congruent if and only if they have the same length. In this paper we study how prime periods of circles on a complex hyperbolic space are distributed on a real line and show that even if two circles have the same length and the same geodesic curvature they are not necessarily congruent each other.

We show equi-distribution properties of values for the third and the fifth Painlevé transcendents in a sectorial domain. For our purpose we define a characteristic function of sectorial domain type by employing value distribution theory in a half plane. Some special cases admit analogues of Borel exceptional values. Similar results are obtained for modified versions of these Painlevé transcendents, which are of infinite growth order.
