Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are associated with high services use, but European data on costs are scarce.

Utilisation and annual costs of 385 individuals with ASD (aged 4-67 years; 18.2% females; 37.4% IQ < 85) from German outpatient clinics were assessed.

Average annual costs per person were 3287 EUR, with psychiatric inpatient care (19.8%), pharmacotherapy (11.1%), and occupational therapy (11.1%) being the largest cost components. Females incurred higher costs than males (4864 EUR vs. 2936 EUR). In a regression model, female sex (Cost Ratio: 1.65), lower IQ (1.90), and Asperger syndrome (1.54) were associated with higher costs.

In conclusion, ASD-related health costs are comparable to those of schizophrenia, thus underlining its public health relevance. Higher costs in females demand further research.

General Lockdown was first declared in Tunisia from March 20th to May 4th 2020 to contain the spread of COVID19 pandemic, the last sanitary lockdown period was declared from July 12th to august 1st in 2021. Psychiatric emergency access and consultation has been affected by the confinement. RAZI Hospital Emergency Department (RHED) is the only emergency department in Tunisia specialized in psychiatry. Thus making it the most representative psychiatric emergency health care service in Tunisia.

To assess changes in patients flow and admission rates in RHED in the context of the COVID-19 lockdown

We examined emergency room records and the hospital’s computer admission database during the first and the last COVID19 lockdowns and compared it to the same period of the previous year.

The number of consultations was significantly lower in 2020 lockdown (N = 577) compared the same period in 2019 (N = 1525) (p<10−3). We observed a drop in RHED emergency hospitalization rate from 45.57% to 29.81% during this study period. The number of consultations per day was significantly lower during the first lockdown (N= 12.44) compared to the last lockdown (N=26.61) (p<10−3), the hospitalization rate rose from 29.81% during the first lockdown to 44.36% during the last.

Fear of COVID19 contamination and lockdown limitation had a huge impact on RHED visits and admissions. Medical team had to adjust in order to prevent further delay in acute psychiatric care.

The corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 2 (CRHR2) gene encodes CRHR2, which is an important element in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal physiologic response towards stress culminating in hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, mood disorders and depression (MDD). CRHR2-/- mice are hypersensitive to stress, and the CRHR2 locus in humans has been linked to type 2 diabetes (T2D) and MDD.

Several variants in the CRHR2 gene have been reported in patients with bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and T2D, but variants in the gene have not been investigated in families with T2D and MDD.

We genotyped 212 Italian families with T2D and MDD. We tested 17 SNPs in the CRHR2 gene using two-point parametric-linkage and linkage-disequilibrium (LD) analysis with the following models: dominant with complete-penetrance (D1), dominant with incomplete-penetrance (D2), recessive with complete-penetrance (R1) and recessive with incomplete-penetrance (R2).

We detected linkage to and/or LD with: MDD for 3 SNPs/D1, 2 SNPs/D2, 3 SNPs/R1, and 3 SNPs/R2; and, T2D for 3 SNPs/D1, 2 SNPs/D2, 2 SNPs/R1 and 1 SNP/R2. Two independent SNPs were comorbid. Interestingly, the variants linked to or in LD with MDD had in general higher statistical significance level than the variants linked to T2D, despite that the families were primarily ascertained for T2D.

Our study shows for the first time that the CRHR2 gene which encodes CRHR2 is in linkage to and linkage disequilibrium with MDD and T2D, thereby contributing, in families with T2D, to both disorders and underlying the shared genetic pathogenesis of their comorbidity

Poor adherence with recommendations during pandemic is wide-spread and increases populational risk of being infected (Smith et al., 2020, Webster et al., 2020, Freeman et al., 2020). Revealing psychological factors of low adherence in adolescents is important for interventions planning. This study tests the role of perceived social support and belongingness in COVID-related anxiety and adherence.

The aim was to reveal relationships between COVID-related anxiety, monitoring of information about pandemic, adherence to recommendations and interpersonal needs in female adolescents.

183 female adolescents (13-21 years old) filled Anxiety Regarding Pandemic Scale, Information Monitoring and Adherence To COVID-related Recommendations Scales (Tkhostov, Rasskazova, 2020), Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (Van Orden et al., 2012).

Female adolescents moderately (m±sd=3.32±1.40 of 1–6-point scale) worried about negative consequences of pandemic on their life and lowly worried about risk of being infected (m±sd=2.53±1.15). Their adherence to recommendations was upper medium (m±sd=3.42±1.18). Neither worries nor adherence were related to age. Perceived burdensomeness was unrelated to COVID-related anxiety and adherence while thwarted belongingness was related to lower anxiety of being infected (r=-.23, p<.01) and poorer adherence to recommendations (r=-.19, p<.05).

In female adolescents thwarted belongingness is a risk factor of poor adherence to COVID-related recommendations because of lower anxiety of being infected. Research is supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, project No. 20-04-60072.

Nursing students’ attitudes towards mental illness will affect their perception about caring patients with mental illness and their willingness to work in the field of mental health. Evidence supported that contact with recovery patients can change people’s perception of mental illness.

The study aims to explore the undergraduate nursing students’ encountering experience with recovery patients as educators.

A qualitative study using purposive sampling was conducted with undergraduate nursing students in southern Taiwan. Content analysis was used to identify the students’ experience as encountering with the recovery patient as an educator.

As recovery patients participated in class, sharing their recovery journey and learning with students to produce a recovery story, it provided recovery patients and students an equal and mutually beneficial partnership. Four main themes about undergraduate nursing students’ attitudes were identified as. (1)Changing the mindset to patients with mental illness — We are human beings. There’s not much difference between us. (2)Turning positive attitudes towards patients with mental illness — We can compose a better life together! (3)Closing the distance between students and patients with mental illness — I am willing to be close to you. (4)Reflecting and growing in self-understanding and values — I am recovered, too.

This study found that the strategy of recovery patients as educators can improve future nurses’ attitudes towards mental illness, help them deeply learn about patient’ recovery journey. It might beneficial to help students developing their competency in patient-centered care. Future study could examine the effect of the recovery patients as educators.

Grief and bereavement are commonplace in clinical practice but have become a more pervasive issue because of the coronavirus 2019 pandemic. Consequently, the need for investigations, learning, and education about complicated grief and prolonged grief have been highlighted. Meanwhile, film-based teaching resources concerning grief care have been employed to complement curricula in medical education.

To explore how the grieving experience can be better communicated and mitigated, and explain how a film-based resource can be applied to improve the understanding of this issue.

We reviewed and analyzed the meaning and cause of complicated, prolonged, disenfranchised grief, as well as related experiences (e.g., survivor guilt) featured in selected films. We discussed the interpretation of these films with medical students and faculty, based on a previously described approach [1].

We recaptured the roles of empathic communications and resilience skills in grief care. They bring a sense of coherence (SOC) or meaning to life by prompting the sharing of grief experiences, helping to reconstruct and contextualize a person’s loss, and assuaging feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness. Incidentally, recent studies have suggested that complicated and prolonged grief involves alterations in brain functioning of the reward system.

This film-based approach utilizes vicarious experiences to better understand grief management. It allows the learner to more easily recognize that SOC, flexible situation-adjusted empathy, and the sharing of resources for improved communication to promote self-care are essential for patients, their families, as well as psychiatrists themselves. Lifestyle behaviours (e.g. physical activity and dietary habits) play a major role in the well-known premature mortality caused by poor physical health in people with mental illness. There is increasing evidence for the efficacy of lifestyle interventions on both physical and mental health, and consensus about important factors for success (e.g. targeting multiple lifestyle behaviours). However, implementation remains challenging and there is little change in clinical care. Studies that include measures of fidelity (the extent to which an intervention is implemented as intended) are able to gain insight in variations in actual implementation, which may affect intended health outcomes. However, there is currently no suitable fidelity tool for our lifestyle intervention.

A pilot study to evaluate the feasibility of a tool that assesses and monitors the implementation fidelity of a multidisciplinary lifestyle focused approach (MULTI+).

MULTI+ can be tailored to various psychiatric wards and consists of 10 essential components based on scientific evidence, existing guidelines and consensus in the field of ‘lifestyle psychiatry’. We developed a tool to assess the 10 components and thereby the implementation fidelity of MULTI+. Qualitative observational data about compliance to these components are collected in 45 psychiatric wards. Adherence is converted to a gradual score (0-50). A higher score indicates higher fidelity.

Preliminary results show that the tool is feasible for use in clinical practice. Scores give insight in how various wards have implemented MULTI+.

These outcomes can be used to further improve and understand the implementation and effectiveness of lifestyle interventions.

The complexity of the feeling of satisfaction makes its measurement complex, in this context our work aims to develop a simple and practical measurement tool to identify problems within the processes of psychiatric care in order to provide corrective interventions.

This is a validation study conducted on a sample of 200 patients followed at RAZI Hospital in Tunisia, outside any period of hospitalization. The questionnaire consisted of 28 items and was structured around eight dimensions (the patient’s perception of his or her own mental disorder, the quality of the doctor-patient relationship, the quality of the nursing team-patient relationship, the organisational aspect and conditions of the hospital ward, the therapeutic discharge planning, the respect of human rights, and the quality of the patient’s health, The organisational aspect and conditions of the hospital ward, Therapeutic discharge planning, Respect for patients’ human rights, Satisfaction with overall care and Loyalty.

Both face validity and content validity were satisfactory. Internal consistency was sufficient with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.913. The inter-dimensional correlation reflected statistically significant and logical correlations within our scale. Temporal stability was satisfactory. An exploratory factor analysis revealed seven factors with a Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin score of 0.852.

Our scale has demonstrated good psychometric properties. It can be reliably used as a measure of the satisfaction of Tunisian patients with the psychiatric care received.

The current period is marked by several negative aspects of the COVID 19 pandemic, which have led to a series of emotional and cognitive changes that affect our functioning. The ability to “read” the minds of others is the key aspect of social behavior, helping us understand our context.

To identify the level of emotion recognition in Medicine students during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Throughout 2021, we evaluated 649 Romanian General Medicine students in years 4, 5 and 6, by using a Google Play application (android and iOS). We analyzed socio-demographic parameters and the affective component of Theory of Mind (The Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test). The mean scores between groups were compared with the Student’s t and the ANOVA tests.

The mean score was 25.83 ± 3.36 (min 11, max 33) out of a possible maximum of 36. We noted that women have a higher capacity for recognizing emotions than men (26.04 ± 3.22 vs. 25.01 ± 3.78, P = 0.0016) without differences in terms of the study year. Also, women showed a greater ability to recognize negative emotions compared to men (16.57 ± 2.44 vs. 15.49 ± 2.75, P <0.001). No statistically significant differences were found between the two genders in terms of positive emotions’ recognition.

The ability to recognize emotions seems to be more developed in women, especially when it entails recognizing negative emotions. Theory of Mind abilities are important for empathy and the therapeutic relationship required in Medicine.

Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) are common in children and adolescents (CA), cause functional disability and high health care use. Internet based cognitive behavioral therapy (i-CBT) have shown promising effect in Sweden. The treatment is exposure based and target avoidance behavior. Cognitive biases regarding bodily symptoms are suggested to be part of development and maintenance of functional disorders in adults, and could therefore be an important treatment target. Little is known about cognitive biases in CA with FGID, and hence the potential importance, it is crucial to explore more in depth. This study is embedded in The Danish FGID Treatment Study which aims to test Swedish i-CBT treatment in a Danish context.

1) Examine cognitive biases in CA with FGID, compared with healthy controls. 2) Asses these biases before and after treatment for FGID to investigate changes and impact on treatment effect.

We developed a novel experimental approach to examine possible cognitive biases in CA. It consists of a picture task and a FGID-specific version of the Health Norms Sorting Task. We will examine 60 CA with FGID, who are included in The Danish FGID Treatment Study before and after treatment. In addition we will perform the test on 100 healthy controls.

The results are expected to improve our understanding of maintaining cognitive factors in CA with FGID, and how these may affect outcome and change during treatment, and how they differ from the general population.

This study can provide new targets for treatment approaches.

Transsexual adolescents frequently present psychiatric comorbidities and psychopathology among which self-injurious behaviours are prominent (Modrego Pardo et al., 2021). GAHT seems to decrease the rate of mental health problems especially in terms of anxiety, depression and hostility (Heylens et al., 2014). However the impact of exogenous cross-sex hormones on non-suicidal and suicidal self-injurious behaviours is not thoroughly understood (Claes et al., 2015).

We present the case of a transsexual boy who was first diagnosed with depression and benign self-injurious behaviours and subsequently - transsexualism.

He was prescribed a treatment with testosterone depot injections in fortnight intervals. The initiation of testosterone injections co-occurred with the switching of antidepressant drug. Self-injurious behaviours, substance abuse and suicidal attempts were observed regularly after GAHT onset – 10-14 days after a testosterone injection. The lethality and intensity of self-harm was greater than that observed before GAHT. After admission to the psychiatry unit pharmacotherapy was adjusted accordingly to presented symptoms. Remission of self-injurious behaviours followed.

The incidence of self-injury 10-14 days after the injection of depot testosterone overlaps the peak of serum testosterone levels in treated patients (O’Connor et al., 2004). Moreover, a relative serotonin deficiency in a depressed patient may be insufficient to counteract testosterone believed to be driving aggressive tendencies (Batrinos, 2012).

Since psychiatric comorbidity and psychopharmacotherapy in transsexual young population is the rule rather than the exception, careful monitoring and therapy adjustment is crucial for maintaining safety and obtaining best results (Kaltiala et al., 2020).

The objectives of our study were to investigate the prevalence of addictions among ESSTSS students and to determine the factors associated with addictions.

A descriptive correlational cross-sectional study was conducted at ESSTSS among 122 students for 2 months (March and April 2021). The data was collectedusing a questionnaire administered to the students.

There were 102 women and 20 men with an averageage of 20.96 years. theprevalence of drug use was 56.6% according to DAST-10, with addiction notedin 5.7% of cases. The prevalence of tobacco use was 35.3% according to the Fagerstörm test, with 23.3% of the students being highlyaddicted to tobacco. The prevalence of alcohol use was 29.5%, 35% for men, and 28.43% for womenaccording to the AUDIT, alcoholdependence was notedin 14.3% of men and 6.9% of women. The prevalence of cannabis use was 16.4% according to the CAST test, a high risk of dependence was observedin 20% of cases. Cognitive insight is a relatively recent concept referring to the ability, not only to reassess unusual experiences objectively after corrective feedback but also to distance oneself from them and it seems to be specifically altered in schizophrenia. Yet, despite its importance in the understanding of psychotic symptoms, this process has never been studied in the North African population.

Therefore, this paper aims to compare cognitive insight performances between two Tunisian psychiatric populations and to explore its relationship with other cognitive processes.

The study population comprised 17 participants with schizophrenia, 9 with bipolar disorder, and 30 healthy controls. The groups were paired for age, education level, and socioeconomic status. We assessed depression, global executive functioning, verbal episodic memory, metamemory (online and offline), and cognitive insight. The latter was evaluated by the Beck Cognitive Insight Scale.

The results showed that, compared to the other groups, participants with schizophrenia obtained a lower self-reflectiveness score and a higher self-certainty score, resulting in a significantly lower composite index. These findings seem to indicate the alteration of cognitive insight in schizophrenia. However, no significant differences were found between the other two groups. Moreover, correlational analyses showed that cognitive insight components were only associated with metamemory indices which proved to be the best predictors of this ability, along with the global executive score.

In conclusion, our data seems to corroborate the international literature reporting a cognitive insight deficit in schizophrenia. However, further research is needed in order to better understand the specific processes underlying this metacognitive function.

Recent reports suggest that Delta-8 THC use has surged during the past year. Although Delta-8 THC is believed to have relatively low psychoactive potency, its effects are not well characterized and the associated individual and public health risks are unknown.

Identify patterns of Delta-8 THC use among US adult cannabis users and examine associations with sociodemographic characteristics and cannabis use-related variables.

We surveyed 4,349 US adult cannabis users recruited via online advertisements. We calculated frequencies of sociodemographic characteristics in past 30-day Delta-8 THC users. Odds ratios were used to indicate associations between sociodemographic characteristics and past 30-day Delta-8 THC use.

Respondents aged 45–64 years were significantly more likely than other age groups to have used Delta-8 THC during the past 30 days (odds ratio=1.48, 95% CI 1.04, 2.11). Fifty-eight percent of the sample had heard of Delta-8 THC, 66.8% of which had first heard of it during the last year and 37.1% first heard of it via social media. The most common methods of consumption were vaping concentrates and edibles. We identified motivations for use of Delta-8 THC that potentially indicate a preference for legal options and/or a perception that Delta-8 THC has medical benefits.

This study provides a snapshot of patterns of Delta-8 THC use among US adult cannabis users. Further investigation of the perceived medical benefits of Delta-8 THC, the role of social media in promoting its use, and the effectiveness of restrictions on Delta-8 THC products would provide further information to guide public health policy regarding Delta-8 THC.

Suicide is a universal, complex, and multifaceted public health problem that is among the leading causes of preventable death worldwide. The impact of suicide affects families, communities, and societies; hence its prevention is an emerging priority for public health systems.

The current systematic review aims to investigate the efficacy of distance suicide prevention strategies implemented through synchronous technology-based interventions (i.e., any digital tool that allows interactive and immediate real-time communication conducted remotely).

The bibliographic search has been carried out in the electronic databases MEDLINE/PubMed, PsycInfo, Scopus, and Web of Science, with no restrictions on the publication period and limited to publications in English or Spanish. Two reviewers independently will conduct screenings, data extraction, risk of bias (RoB), and methodological quality assessment.

The preliminary data searches seem to support the effectiveness of providing active contact to persons who have made a suicide attempt and indicate that receiving early specialized assistance decreases the relative risk of recurrence. The reduction would be attributable to improved detection of patients at increased risk and effective referral to emergency services.

Telematics suicide prevention has been an emergent field for years, facilitated by the notably increased in acceptance and availability. Considering that distance programmes can reach affected individuals regardless of their location, it stands to reason that these interventions will be part of future suicide prevention efforts. The results will be discussed regarding (a) the effect size of the intervention outcomes and (b) the main moderators of the effectiveness found.

Research of COVID-19-Pandemic mental health impact focus on three groups: the general population, (2) so called vulnerable groups (e.g. individuals with mental disorders) and (3) individuals suffering COVID-19 including Long-COVID syndromes.

We investigate whether individuals with a history of depression in the past, react to the COVID-19 pandemic with increased depressive symptoms.

Longitudinal Data stem from the NAKO-Baseline-Assessment (2014-2019, 18 study centers in Germany, representative sampled individuals from 20 to 74 years) and the subsequent NAKO-COVID-Assessment (5-11/2020). The sample for analysis comprises 115.519 individuals. History of psychiatric disorder was operationalized as lifetime self-report for physician-diagnosed depression. Depressive symptoms were measured with the PHQ 9.

Mean age of the sample at baseline was 49.95 (SD 12.53). It comprised 51.70 women; 14 % of the individuals had a history of physician-diagnosed depression. Considering a PHQ-Score with cut-off 10 as a clinical relevant depression, 3.65 % of the individuals without history of depression and 24.19 % of those with a history of depression were depressed at baseline. The NAKO-COVID-Assessment revealed 6.53 % depressed individuals without any history of depression and a similar rate of 23.29 % in those with history of depression.

In contrast to that what we expected, individuals with a history of a physician-diagnosed depression, did not react with increasing depressiveness during the first phase of the pandemic in Germany. Several reasons could be discussed. Whether there medium and long-term impact remains open.

To pinpoint the types of perfectionism that graduating medical students at Medical University experience, those who, during all the years of study, showed high academic results

Forty-nine graduating medical students volunteered to take part in the study, their average mark being not lower than 4.75 (maximum was 5). Their average age was 22.41±0.75. The following scales measured the level of expressiveness of perfectionism: A.A. Zolotareva, Hewitt and Flett, I.I. Gracheva

The results of the study undertaken showed two distinct groups. Students of the first group (79.6%) aimed at high internal standards in their study that would make them very well prepared professionally for their future work as doctors. They consciously accepted the common rules and norms of their society. Students of the other group (20.4%), consciously and subconsciously, estimate their high academic results as a good way of overcoming personal disturbances. They have excessive non-realistic demands towards self and others

The results of our study make it possible for us to suppose that medical students of the second group will experience quite a lot of difficulties in their future professional activity

Psychological distress during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic can manifest itself in interpretations of what is happening.

To analyze response to COVID-19 pandemic in people with high level of esoteric thinking.

Internet survey 23.03.20-29.01.21 (N=621); Constructive Thinking Inventory(CTI); SCL-90R. It was proposed to assess statements: “The authorities are hiding the true scale of the coronavirus pandemic”, “Coronavirus is the result of biological weapons development”, “Coronavirus is a punishment or a sign sent to people from above”, “The emergence of the coronavirus is the Earth’s response to its pollution”. It was offered to express an opinion about pandemic. The answers were coded on the basis of qualitative semantic analysis.

The growth of “esoteric thinking” was revealed (Std.J-T, p=.025). With a high level of esoteric thinking, emotional statements (“fear, anxiety, panic”) are more common (27.8% versus 16.9% for group with high and low level of «esoteric thinking»). Correlations of the level of «esoteric thinking» with level of depression (Spearman’s correlation ,085*), anxiety (,097*), GSI (,130**), «fears for the life» (23.4% versus 14.5%) show high emotional distress. With an increase in the level of «esoteric thinking», belief in various conspiracy theories increases; Spearman’s correlation ,370** with the belief is biological weapons, punishment for sins (,355**), belief in concealing information about the pandemic (,167**).

A high level of esoteric thinking is associated with an increased emotional response to the pandemic and with belief in conspiracy theories, and can increase emotional instability by itself also making constructive decisions difficult in situations related to protecting personal health and safety.
