Suicide is one of the main cause of death in the world. It’s an important public health problem that is growning on new generations.

The manners used to die have always been studied from psychiatry to understand which mental illness induced victim to various ways of suicide. They are multiples and are influenced by different factors. This study includes suicides cases defined “atypical”.

The cases were examined at the Insitute of legal Medicine Institute of Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro. Methods used were autopsies, and psycological autopsies. The study of the three cases also included the first level toxicological tests..

In the first case, the victim died for cut injuries by using a kitchen knife on the lateral-cervical region of neck; the inspection revealed superficial lesions (test cuts) which, with progressive depth, reached the vascular-nervous bundle. In the second case, in a family contest of apparent welfare, the victim decided to go out home in the middle of the night, to reach an isolated place: there, when he still was in his car, he spilled on his head flammable liquid to accelerate fire effects.

In the case number 3, the victim was found at the bottom of a cliff with earplugs; maybe she was hearing voices in her mind that induced her to death. At home, police found a message on paper about her autopsy will.

The autopsy findings on the cases described are atypical. In every three cases of atypical suicide, the victim was not being treated with therapy, and all victims, probably, were very able to hide their socio-relational malaise. Forensic investigations for the study of suicides must not be limited to the study of fatal injuries. Forensic study about the modalities used to commit suicide wants to be a help to improve knowledge on certain psychiatric pathologies at high risk of suicide.

Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a chronic mental illness characterized by a rich and diverse symptomatology. A generalized cognitive deficit has been widely recognized among the symptoms of this disease. Several authors have studied the relationship between peripheral markers of inflammation and cognitive dysfunctions in order to explain the etiopathogeny of these disorders.

The aim of our study is to better comprehend the nature of the relation between peripheral markers of inflammation and cognitive dysfunctions.

A systematic review of the literature was conducted following the guidelines provided by the PRISMA method. We performed a systematic search focused on two automated bibliographic databases: Pubmed and Google Scholar including the following keywords: “inflammation”, “schizophrenia”, “cognition”

A total of 17 articles were included.

Significant relations with cognitive function were reported with IL-6, IL-18, IL-2, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α ) and chemokines. Memory was the cognitive domain where the most significant relations with cytokines were objectified.

BDNF levels were correlated with cognitive tests in 5 studies of SCZ populations. The domains concerned were inhibition, flexibility, verbal fluency, verbal memory, attention, and processing speed.

Elevated CRP in patients with SCZ was reported by all studies and a significant relation with cognition in 3 studies. This relations is objectified in the areas of memory, executive functions and processing speed.

The relations between CRP, BDNF, cytokines and cognitive functions was inconsistent across studies.

The majority of the results observed during the review were in favor of a significant relation between CRP, BDNF and cytokines. Nevertheless, these results were not constant and heterogeneous. It would be interesting to better explore the nature of this relation through prospective studies in order to establish therapeutic perspectives.

The National School for Training in Mental Health Rehabilitation and Recovery at the Ono academic college operates under the auspices of, and is funded by, the Division for Mental Health Rehabilitation of the Israeli Ministry of Health. Intended to hone the quality of services provided, it offers numerous training courses, that target various populations associated with and working in the field of mental health recovery, among them clients and their family members, as well rehabilitation professionals and support personnel. The novel course of trauma and posttraumatic growth (PTG) was developed and aimed at supporting recovery, coping strategies and ultimately PTG through the lenses of both recovery and trauma informed care for psychiatric and support personnel, professionals with lived experience, and family members. It is built of eleven six hours long sessions with lectures, in-vivo assignments, and group supervision.

Portray the development, implementation, and outcomes of the course from psycho-educational, clinical, social, and personal perspectives of students as well as the course’s developers.

A case study of the course that will be portrayed through qualitative anonymous testimonials from students’ surveys and assignments, as well as the analyses of processes that the course underwent through the years.

The course has several dimensions that allow the integration between trauma, recovery, and PTG in psychiatric rehabilitation: the integration between academia and research-based knowledge with experiential knowledge; integration between the perspectives of PTG and recovery; and, integration between social and cultural perspectives and person-centred care. In addition, the course promotes trauma-informed models in psychiatric rehabilitation; offers new perspective and implantation to psychiatric recovery-oriented tools so as to promote PTG; and enhances social support and cohesion within mental health services and personnel.

The current case study portrays the unique processes of knowledge development, implementation, and training in psychiatric rehabilitation personnel, supported staff and people with lived experience. The course brings a focus on PTG as a promising addition to the trauma-informed approach in psychiatric rehabilitation, which is only scarcely linked to recovery.

Aripiprazole is a third generation atypical antipsychotic and a dopamine serotonin system stabilizer, effective against positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. Within the group of atypical antipsychotics, aripiprazole shows a relatively benign safety profile (e.g. lower metabolic impact, mild effect on cardiovascular parameters), although the reported rate of extrapyramidal side effects is measurable.

Oculogyric crisis (OGC) is a rare movement disorder characterized by a prolongued involuntary upward deviation of the eyes, lasting minutes to hours. In most cases, OCG is a drug-induced adverse event with acute or tardive onset often attributable to a functional impairment of dopaminergic neurotransmission.

OGC is seldom reported in children and young adults during treatment with aripiprazole, althouh it is commonly used in youths.

We report a case of an aripiprazole-induced oculogyric crisis in a 19 year old girl who diagnosed with schizophrenia (paranoid).

There was a complete remission of the OGC’s following aripiprazole dose reduction, suggesting the clinical manifestation was a dose-dependent phenomenon.

The present report should raise awarness among clinicians for this relevant possible adverse event, that can happen also with the use of aripiprazol, not only with typical or more antidopaminergic antipsychotics. Future research in the field should emphasize neurobiological dysfunctions as the basis of EPS/OGC in patients.

This program project arises from the consternation of psychotherapists at the increase in self-injurious behaviors in the child and adolescent population.

Currently, in consultation, we are seeing many cases that do not match the conditions (anxiety disorders, depression, attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity…) described by current classifications. These cases have a common feature: emotional dysregulation.

- Reduce the discomfort and emotional pain of the patient.- Increase the patient’s skills.

- Improve patient motivation.

- Generalize to the natural environment.

- Structure the environment.

The program is directed to peoople between the ages of 12 and 18. They are divided into two groups: one from 12 to 15 years old and another from 16 to 18 years old.

The groups are a maximum of 8 adolescents. Parents also participate.

These are closed groups.

The duration of each session is one hour or one hour and a half.

A therapeutic contract is signed.

We will use different scales to measure the evolution of the patients. The following scales will be passed at the beginning and at the end: DERS, EGD, DASS 21, GHQ-12.

Dialectical dilemmas in families will be worked on. These results will be collected and compared with those at the end of the program.

People with emotional dysregulation sometimes do not have the necessary skills to regulate emotions. With this program, we intend to carry out training in skills (mindfulness; middle path; tolerance to discomfort; emotional regulation), structured in modules, in addition to relying on individual therapy.

Given this increase in deregulated children and young people, we see ourselves in the need to train ourselves and address these cases from a different point of view.

Patients with schizophrenia have deficits in contextual vision. However, results are often very mixed. In some paradigms, patients do not take the context into account and therefore act more veridically than healthy controls. In other paradigms, context impairs performance in patients more strongly than in healthy controls. These mixed results may be explained by differences in paradigms, as well as by small or biased samples, given the large heterogeneity of the disease.

To understand if there are general contextual deficits in schizophrenia.

17 schizophrenia patients and 16 age-matched controls were tested with a combined crowding and uncrowding paradigm.

Schizophrenia patients show qualitatively similar crowding performance as controls. In the uncrowding condition, however, patientsimproved less than controls. We suggest that performance in the various paradigms depends on idiosyncratic aspects of the paradigm in addition to the heterogeneity of the disease.

There are no general impaired mechanisms in schizophrenia. Deficits depend strongly on idiosyncrasies of the specific stimuli.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a form of neuromodulation most commonly used in depression. tDCS aims to modulate cortical activity by the application of a weak electrical current to the brain via electrodes placed on the scalp. Several studies have identified the potential of tDCS for managing behavioural and psychological symptoms in a range of dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and frontotemporal dementia. Although the preliminary data on efficacy is promising, the safety of repeatedly neuromodulating the brain of a person with dementia, by tDCS, has not been extensively reported.

Our aim was to review the current literature on how safe it is to repeatedly neuromodulate a brain with dementia.

Advanced literature searches of PubMed and the Web of Science Core Collection were conducted to identify relevant publications. The search terms deployed were: “tDCS” or “transcranial direct current stimulation” and “frontotemporal dementia” or “vascular dementia” or “Lewy body” or “Alzheimer’s disease”. The following inclusion criteria were applied to the search: (1) publications which focused on the use of tDCS in patients with either frontotemporal dementia, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies or Alzheimer’s disease, (2) studies involving human participants and, (3) publications written in, or readily translated to English.

216 articles were returned in the initial search. Following the removal of 54 duplicate articles, the remaining 162 underwent eligibility screening using the titles and abstracts. 31 articles were then selected for a full text reading and following this, 12 studies were selected to be included in the review. Across all 12 studies, 3590 sessions of active tDCS were performed with no severe adverse effects being reported. The most commonly occurring adverse effect was a tingling/burning sensation underneath the electrodes, followed by headache and skin changes. These reported effects tended to be mild and short lived.

Overall, the results of the reviewed papers suggest that repeated neuromodulation by tDCS can be safely performed in dementia patients. More and larger studies should aim to perform a greater number of sessions of tDCS, across a longer time period. Few studies assessed for potential brain damage as a result of tDCS and future studies should consider using MRI or monitoring biomarkers to further investigate this.

Though the literature suggests a strong association between depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation, in clinical practice, it is often observed that many patients who show those symptoms, even the most severe, do not experience suicidal ideation. Thus, the association between depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation is insufficient to explain the complexity behind suicide. From Shneidman’s point of view, the common feature in patients with suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior seems to be mental pain, defined by the author as “psychache” and characterized by a distressed state of mind, in which the subject experiences extreme angst, hopelessness and in which pain is seen as unsolvable. Individuals with depressive symptoms are suicidal only when psychache is so unbearable that suicide is perceived as the only option.

Our study aimed to investigate the association among depressive symptoms, mental pain, and recent suicidal ideation, specifically whether mental pain could mediate the relationship between depressive symptoms and current suicidal ideation in a sample of psychiatric patients.

Participants were 206 adult patients (49.5% females). Patients were assessed for psychiatric diagnoses according to DSM-5. For the study, the following instruments were administered: the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), the Beck Depression Inventory-2 (BDI-2), and the Orbach & Mikulincer Mental Pain Questionnaire (OMMP).

32.5% of the patients had bipolar disorder, 21.4% had MDD, 24.8% had schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders, and 15% had a personality disorder. About 34% of the patients reported recent suicidal ideation with at least some intent to act. Recent suicidal ideation was associated with both mental pain and depressive symptoms, but mental pain completely mediated the association between depression and suicidal ideation (β=.04, SE=.01, 95% CI (.01/.06).

Our study indicated that patients with more severe depressive symptoms are more likely to report suicidal ideation and that the presence of mental pain could explain this association thoroughly. Thus, in clinical practice, the identification of mental pain confirms its crucial role in the assessment of suicide risk and in the understanding of the individual’s unique pain.

The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant psychological and physical impact throughout the world. Indeed, the rapid increase in the number of cases of infection created stressful situations and an anxiety-inducing climate that significantly affected the mental health of the world’s population, particularly that of healthcare workers (HCWs) who were massively mobilized to deal with the crisis.

To assess the frequency of anxiety-depressive disorders in HCWs who have contracted the SARS-Cov2 virus.

Cross-sectional descriptive study interested the HCWs of the Charles Nicolle Hospital of Tunis having had COVID-19 during the period from September 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020. The psychological impact was studied through the HAD questionnaire (anxiety and depression assessment scale), administered to hospital workers at the time of the medical visit to return to work.

The study population consisted of 531 Hcws. The mean age was 40 years with extremes ranging from 24 to 63 years. A female predominance of 76.6% was noted. The average professional seniority was 10 years [one year-37 years]. Nurses were the main professional category (32.4%). The study population belonged mainly to the departments of gynecology (8.3%), general surgery (7.2%), internal medicine (6.4%), and emergency (5.5%). A pathological history was found in 89.6% of cases, 7.2% of which were psychiatric. Anxiety (total score >10) was noted in 36.5% of patients. On the other hand, a certain depression (total score “depression” >10) was found in 33.3% of HCWs.

The COVID-19 pandemic induced a significant psychological impact on the HCWs placed in the first line in the management of this health crisis. As a result, long-term psychological follow-up of healthcare workers is essential in order to preserve health at work in care settings.

ADHD is one of the most frequently diagnosed neurodevelopmental disorders and affects the daily functioning of families raising children with this condition. Among the symptoms typical for ADHD, low effectiveness of executive functions can determine the quality of family life.

This study aimed to specify whether family communication and satisfaction as reported by a parent are predictors of a child’s executive functioning quality and whether ADHD severity lies on the pathway between the two. Moreover, the child’s sex effect was checked.

The study included 200 Polish participants (nGirls = 56) from the NeuroSmog project aged 10-13 diagnosed with ADHD according to the ICD-11. Stanford-Binet 5 Intelligence Scale, PU1 Cognitive Diagnosis Battery, Conners 3 ADHD Diagnosis Questionnaire, and the FACES IV Questionnaire were used to derive needed information. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was applied to test the hypotheses.

The quality of family communication and satisfaction did not predict the child’s executive functioning of ADHD children and ADHD severity did not play a mediating role. No differences by sex were observed. We only found a significant effect between IQ and executive functioning level in the general sample (standardized β = X, p = Y) and in girls (-0,24, 0,007).

These results contrast with previous studies from other cultural contexts that have shown the existence of the hypothesized interrelations. Further research should confirm or refute these observations.

Student well-being is an area of increasing interest for schools around the world. However, the extent to which school-based well-being and mental health interventions are currently being delivered by different schools has not previously been explored in many countries, including New Zealand.

This survey of a nationally-representative sample of schools was undertaken to identify: what well-being and mental health interventions were being used by primary (elementary) and secondary (high) schools and what gaps exist between current practice and the evidence-base.

Forty staff from 37 (22 primary, 13 secondary and 2 composite) schools across New Zealand participated in semi-structured interviews. Data was analysed for key themes and subthemes using Braun and Clarke’s method.

Seven key themes were identified: 1) staff awareness and enthusiasm about student well-being and mental health; 2) existence of specific interventions to support student well-being and mental health; 3) support for government-sponsored programmes; 4) limitations of existing programmes; 5) drivers of new interventions; 6) barriers to implementation; and 7) suggestions for future interventions and their implementation.

Despite enthusiasm from educators for interventions with which to improve student well-being, there is a gap between intention and activity. Students are receiving primarily non-evidence based interventions in a variable manner due to staff and cost-related barriers. We suggest ways for health and education providers in New Zealand and elsewhere to address these issues, as well as avenues for further research.

Psychiatrists need access to professional resources to care for their patients. In mental health settings, clinical innovations such as a new therapeutic approach, clinical guidelines or new drugs can diffuse more or less, depending on the social capital of these clinicians. The Resource Generator developed by Snijders & Van Der Gaag (2004) measures access to resources within a social network for the general population. It may therefore not capture access to social capital in the professional field of psychiatry.

We aimed to develop and validate the Resource Generator for Psychiatrists and to detect factors influencing the social capital of clinicians.

The development of the final 11-item questionnaire followed multiple steps. First, the items were selected and adapted by an expert in the sociology of mental health to match the sector of psychiatry. Content validity and detection of important issues or misunderstandings were ensured by cognitive interviews with a panel of 6 clinicians. Each item has a 6-point response scale, rated from 0 to 6. Answers were coded “0” when the respondent did not need a certain resource or it was not applicable to their situation, while answering the closest resource was coded “6”. The online self-completion questionnaire was administered through a link sent by email to all adult psychiatrists and psychiatric residents licensed to work in Belgium. Additional warm contacts were performed for psychiatrists working in ambulatory care. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted. Internal consistency was ensured with Pearson’s correlation, item-total correlation and Cronbach’s alpha. Test-retest reliability was also measured. Multivariable linear regression analysis assessed the association between psychiatrist demographics and the RG-Psy total score.

The Resource Generator for Psychiatrists questionnaire completed by 152 psychiatrists showed a normal distribution with a mean of 32.5 (SD=12), good test-retest reliability (ICC=0.81), and good total Cronbach’s alpha (0.74). Exploratory factor analysis revealed two main subtypes in psychiatrists’ social capital: “attention and access to advice” and “practical assistance, knowledge and expertise”, with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.62 and 0.7 respectively. Clinicians attending institutional seminars (β=5.5221, p=0.013) and working in multidisciplinary settings such as hospitals (β=4.7448, p=0.023) or a mobile team (β=8.7475, p=0.014) were more likely to have higher social capital.

Psychiatrists’ access to professional resources can be reliably measured by a 11-item questionnaire and can be used to test the influence of their professional social capital on different outcomes.

Recovery in schizophrenia is both widely accepted and commonly misunderstood. Researchers have described favorable outcomes for schizophrenia for the last 100 years. Nevertheless, many patients, relatives and clinicians view schizophrenia as a disease with an inevitable chronic course, as described by Kraepelin in 1889. The definition and measurement of recovery in schizophrenia have proven to be a difficult task. If defined by the remission of clinical symptoms, we have criteria that are operational, but is symptomatic remission sufficient to describe recovery? If looking at social recovery, outcomes related to recovery e.g., social life, employment or social engagement are not easily measured by reliable independent metrics. Thirdly, recovery can be described as a personal journey rather than a clinical endstate.

The aim is to present a historical and global overview of 100 years of research in recovery in schizophrenia.

We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis. We included prospective studies with at least 20 years of follow-up on patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, and the studies must include face-to-face clinical evaluation. We examined outcome in three nested groups: ‘recovery’, ‘good or better’ (i.e., good and recovery), and ‘moderate or better’ (i.e., moderate, good, and recovery). We used random-effects meta-analysis and meta-regression to examine mean estimates and possible moderators.

The overview will start with Bleuler, who described that approximately one third have a good outcome, and end with the most recent meta-analyses on recovery in schizophrenia, presenting both data from our own research and others on the recovery of schizophrenia. Ultimately, we will discuss whether recovery have improved in the last 100 years.

It is a myth that schizophrenia inevitably has a deteriorating course. Recovery is certainly possible. Schizophrenia remains, however, a severe and complex mental disorder, exhibiting a limited change in prognosis despite more than 100 years of research and efforts to improve treatment.

As social stress includes social isolation, urban living, trauma and many other stressful events but social stress in context of workplace or job stress includes different factors. As in the case of social stress present at job place can be identified as a stress that is caused by planned social isolation or lack of social support at workplace. Bullying behavior of colleagues of an employee might also add up to the social stress (Øverli & Sørensen, 2016). Job stress factors also involves harassment on the hand of boss that is most often described as yelling, shouting, insulting and behaving oddly in front of other colleagues. All these factors can be quite stressful for an employee and also comes under the umbrella of social stress. This type of stress, if prolonged and adds other factors can also cause increased risk of psychoses.

Following study has certain clear objectives mentioned subsequently:

1. To investigate the prevalence of stressful work environment in association with prodromal psychosis for public and private sector employees

2. To investigate the difference between male and female employees for association of work stress with prodromal psychosis.

In this Study cross sectional method will be used. The following two scales The Brief Work Stress Questionnaire to measure work stress and Prodromal Questionnaire, Brief Version (PQ-B) for measurement of prodromal psychosis will be used.

For this study a sample of 300 consisting of doctors, teachers and banking officials (100 each) will be included using convenient sampling technique. The data will be collected from different work occupations like government and private sector. Male and female sample will be collected equally.

The objective of the present study is therefore to inspect the symptoms of prodromal psychosis among employees belonging to different occupations. Further to explore its relationship with work stress and other social and clinical demographics. Reliability analysis was done using Cronbach’s Alpha. Internal consistency of instruments was measured by Cronbach’s Alpha. Descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment was also used to analyze frequencies, demographic variables percentage. Independent Sample T-test was also used for assessment of gender difference.

This research was conducted to check the prevalence of job stress and its relation to prodromal psychosis in private and government employees in different job occupations. Other objective of this study was to explore the gender differences of job stress and prodromal psychosis among different genders as well as in different civil and private job occupations.

The importance of inflammation as a common pathophysiological mechanism underlying infectious and non-infectious diseases determines the relevance of studying the effect of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) on the course of endogenous psychoses.

Clinical and immunological study of the potential impact of coronavirus infection on the course of endogenous psychoses.

Two groups of female patients aged 16 to 48 years with depressive-delusional conditions (F20.01, F21, F31) developed after a coronavirus infection were examined. In 15 patients, psychosis developed 1-2 months after COVID-19, and in 18 patients it occured within 2-6 months after the disease. The severity of psychopathological symptoms was assessed using PANSS and HDRS-21 scales. The activity of inflammatory markers leukocyte elastase (LE) and α1-proteinase inhibitor (α1-PI) in the blood of patients was determined. Neutrophil count, lymphocyte count and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio were calculated. The standard values of indicators of healthy donors corresponding to patients by age and sex were used as controls.

Endogenous psychoses that developed later after coronavirus infection were associated with “typical” inflammation, increased α1-PI activity and increased neutrophil degranulation (by LE activity) compared to normal values. Patients with this immune profile were observed to develop depressive-delusional states with a prevalence of positive affectivity (anxiety, melancholy) and an expanded nature of delusional disorders that were predominantly non-congruent with affect. Endogenous psychoses that developed within 2-6 months after COVID-19 were characterized by decreased neutrophil count, decreased LE activity, prevalence of negative affectivity (apathy, asthenia, adynamia), and a relatively undeveloped nature of delusional disorders that were predominantly congruent with affect.

Clinical and biological correlates presumably indicate the modulating effect of the coronavirus infection on (neuro)inflammation and the structure of endogenous psychoses.

Schizophrenia is a common chronic mental illness (1% of the general population) classified by the World Health Organization in the group of the 10 most disability causing diseases.

Despite its impact on social and relational functioning and the alteration of the quality of life, the sexuality of these patients is not always explored.

Evaluate the sexuality of patients with schizophrenia by comparing men and women followed in the "A" psychiatry department of Razi Hospital in Tunisia.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 50 stabilized patients (25 men and 25 women) suffering from schizophrenia.

The research for sexual dysfunctions was carried out with the ASEX scale (Arizone Sexual Experience Scale) and CSFQ-14 (Changes in sexual functioning questionnaire) in their French version.

A correlation was used between these two scales in order to guarantee results’ conformity.

The sexual activity rate was 64.0% at the time of the study and 88.0% over a life span. These sexual activity rates were comparable between the two sexes.

The overall rate of sexual dysfunction was 68.7% of sexually active patients at the time of the study and concerned 72.2% of men and 64.3% of women, with no difference according to gender.

The different sexual dysfunctions were equally present in men and women, except for the dimension disorder: desire/interest, desire/frequency and arousal, which were more frequent in women.

The sexual aspect in patients followed for schizophrenia remains neglected by clinicians. It deserves better attention in order to optimize the overall care of patients and improve their quality of life.

Patients with mental disorders frequently become non-adherent during their long term prescribed treatment. This situation frequently triggers clinical worsening and hospital admission. Therefore, non-adherence may result in poorer long term clinical outcomes and has economic implications for health-care providers (Carlos De las Cuevas et al. Neuropsychopharmacol Hung 2021; 23(4):347-362).

- To describe the adherence to oral and long acting injectable treatment in the sample of patients that were admitted to the short stay hospital unit during the period of study.

- To describe the adherence to treatment amongst psychiatric diagnosis in the sample of study.

It was a retrospective observational study with a duration of three months. Data was collected from all patients admitted to the short stay hospital unit during the period of study and there were no specific exclusion criteria. Descriptive statistics were performed. To assess the adherence to pharmachological treatment the patient report, the family report and the pharmacy dispensation according to the existent informatic prescription platform was considered. Regarding the long acting injectable treatment the formulary of administration in the clinical history was checked.

During the period of study 172 patients were admitted to the short stay hospital unit. Of those, 146 patients had a previous pharmacologic prescription. Data of treatment was not possible to obtain in 7 patients. In the sample of study, 83.5% were on oral and 16.5% on long acting injectable treatment. The general adherence to treatment in the sample was 61.87%. In the oral treatment group the adherence was 58.4% and in the long acting injectable treatment group was 65.2%.

Amongst the different psychiatric diagnoses the outcomes of adherence to treatment were: 60.4% in schizophrenia and related psychosis, 62.5% in bipolar disorder, 78.6% in depression, 58.3% in personality disorders and 62% in addictive disorders.

In our descriptive study adherence to treatment was higher in the long acting injectable treatment group, agreeing with the existent scientific literature.

The results of adherence for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are similar to the ones found in scientific literature but differ from the ones for depression, being higher in our sample (Judit Lazary et al. Neuropsychopharmacol Hung 2021;23(4): 347-362). Moreover, in scientific literature it is found a similar prevalence of adherence across diagnosis (for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression) whereas in our sample patients with depression showed a different and higher adherence to treatment (Judit Lazary et al. Neuropsychopharmacol Hung 2021;23(4): 347-362). In our sample, patients with personality disorders had the lowest adherence to treatment.

Despite extensive research, the cognitive processes mediating the impact of psychotherapeutic interventions remain poorly understood, and as a result difficult to quantify. Identifying such mechanisms is likely to be extremely helpful: it could help target interventions better, could support dosing therapy through monitoring, and could heighten the speed at which new interventions can be developed. Mechanisms research in psychotherapy has described a number of key difficulties to achieving this. In this and the next talk, we ask whether advances in cognitive computational neuroscience might provide some support. Specifically, the question is whether precise cognitive probes might identify specific mechanisms of interventions. In support of this, I will first describe a pilot study in participants undergoing an adapted behavioural activation therapy. I will then move to present results from two strands of experiments examining whether interventions derived from components of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) are able to shift computationally-derived measures of their proposed psychological substrates. Findings from both strands will be discussed with respect to challenges in developing brief, reliable, engaging, and user-acceptable measures of cognition. Overall, this outlines some early new results in using computational methods to understand therapeutic processes in the psychotherapy for depression.

In recent years there has been an ongoing search for alternatives to psychiatric hospitalizations, which might overcome the barriers of social stigma and institutionalization. Nonetheless, there is a paucity of empirical studies which address the effectiveness of these potential alternatives as compared to the traditional medical model.

The purpose of the current study is to compare the effectiveness of psychiatric hospitalization with two alternatives: Soteria homes, which emphasize the cultivation of empathetic and non-intrusive relations, and technologically assisted home hospitalization, which places the emphasis on the provision of psychiatric care in a manner which resembles the medical model, but in close proximity to the patient’s family.

Subjects and staff completed self-report measures of their symptomatic distress, social functioning, interpersonal relations, quality of life, self-stigma, therapeutic alliance, global functioning (GAF) and positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia (PANSS). Measurements were completed at baseline, at discharge, and at three months, half a year, a year and a year and a half after discharge.

Overall, the study included 214 subjects, which were non-randomly allocated to one of the three acute care modules: psychiatric hospitalization (N=66), Soteria homes (N=94) and technologically assisted home hospitalization (N=54). The average age in the total sample was 36 years (SD=14.2) and 49.1% of them were women. The majority of patients (47.7%) were diagnosed with a psychotic or bipolar diagnosis, followed by mood disorders (29.4%), PTSD or a personality disorders (19.6%) and others (3.3%). About 68.5% earned less than the average, 10.2% earned an average salary and 21.4% earned above the average.

Full description of the results elaborating on the differences between treatment modules across the three acute care settings will be presented and discussed. The results of the current study can provide significant insights about the effectiveness of psychiatric hospitalization alternatives for acute mental states and can influence decision-making processes and policy trends worldwide.
