Behavioral addictions (with related behaviors often conducted online) constitute new categories within the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD). In both, gambling disorder is listed as a formal clinical diagnosis whereas disorders related to videogaming exist in the DSM (research criteria) and ICD (clinical criteria). However, a broader range of disorders related to other behaviors (e.g., shopping/buying, social media use, pornography use) have been proposed as possible behavioral addictions.

This presentation will provide insight in efforts by major organizations (e.g., the World Health Organization) to consider behavioral addictions and how best to screen for, assess and intervene to help people with these conditions. Empirical data influencing the classification of the behaviors and disorders will be presented. Changes in online behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic will be considered with respect to mental health concerns.

Multiple methods ranging from results of neuroimaging studies, clinical trials, and longitudinal investigations will be presented.

Brain imaging results suggest similarities between specific internet-use behaviors (especially internet gaming disorder) and substance use disorders, supporting a classification as behavioral addictions. Multiple types of internet use increased during the pandemic, particularly during the onset. Different patterns of mental concerns in relation to internet use behaviors were seen during the pandemic. Consensus guidances regarding how best to avoid and address problematic use of the internet were developed and disseminated. Clinical trials support the efficacy of behavioral and neuromodulatory approaches, although no treatments have regulatory approval for behavioral addictions.

Multiple internet-use behaviors may form the basis of behavioral addictions. While considerable data exist for internet gaming disorder, other behaviors commonly performed on the internet also warrant consideration. Additional research is needed to develop, test and implement more effective prevention and treatment strategies.

Undergraduate students encounter developmental challenges during their transition into adulthood. Previous studies have claimed that adults with later chronotypes usually manifest negative psychological effects: poor sleep quality, greater stress, depression, and cognitive dysfunction. However, knowledge about the relationship between chronotype, stress, and sleep quality among young adults is lacking.

The present study investigated the relationship between undergraduates’ chronotypes and perceived stress on sleep quality.

An online survey with a descriptive, cross-sectional design was conducted with a convenience sample of undergraduate students at a university in southern Taiwan. Those who were 20-25 years old and enrolled as a student were included; but who had been suspended or had deferred graduation were excluded. Students’ chronotype, stress, and sleep quality were assessed with three self-reported instruments: Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).

Of 161 undergraduates who completed the questionnaires, 51 reported using an alarm clock to wake and were removed from data analysis. One hundred and ten students’ mean age is 20.3 and perceived moderate stress. Sixty-one percent were poor-quality sleepers. The mean chronotype score was 5.7, and 85.5% had an intermediate chronotype, while 13.6% had an evening chronotype. Chronotype and perceived stress were positively correlated with sleep quality (p < .001). Social jetlag was positively correlated with chronotype (p =.036). Undergraduate’s later chronotype and higher stress perception predicted 30% of poorer sleep quality (p < .001).

Undergraduate students’ chronotype and perceived stress were positively correlated and acted as predictors of the sleep quality. The findings could help to develop health-promotion interventions for these emerging adults to adjust their daily routines; and reduce their social jetlag, stress levels, and sleep disturbance.

Lockdowns and social distancing resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic have worsened population mental health and made it more difficult for individuals to receive care. Electronic cognitive behavioural therapy (e-CBT) is a cost-effective and evidence-based treatment that can be accessed remotely. The objective of the study was to investigate the efficacy of online psychotherapy during the pandemic.

The purpose of the present study was to develop and administer an e-psychotherapy program for patients with depression and anxiety d), affected by the COVID-19 pandemic . The program aimed to significantly reduce stress and psychological distress in patients, from pre- to post-intervention.

Participants (n = 59) diagnosed with MDD and/or GAD, whose mental health symptoms initiated or worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. The online psychotherapy program focused on teaching coping, mindfulness, and problem-solving skills. Symptoms of anxiety and depression, resilience, and quality of life were assessed.

From the participants assessed for eligibility, n = 14 did not meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria and n = 7 declined to participate. As a result, n = 59 participants commenced the study. In total, 21 participants dropped out of the study (n = 11 from Weeks 1-3, n = 7 from Weeks 4-6, and n = 3 at Week 7), and 38 participants completed the study. The large majority of the total sample identified as women (n = 41, 69%). Two participants identified as Other and both dropped out of the treatment at Weeks 4 and 6, respectively. The average age of the sample was 32.26 (SD = 12.67). No significant differences were observed at baseline for any demographic variables or scores of treatment completers and dropouts . A significant difference was observed between the number of sessions completed by those who dropped out and those who finished the program (p < 0.001). On average, treatment dropouts completed approximately 41% of the treatment before dropping out.

Participants demonstrated significant improvements in symptoms of anxiety (p = 0.023) and depression (p = 0.029) after the intervention. Similar trends were observed in intent-to-treat analysis. No significant differences were observed in resilience and quality of life measures.

The evidence strongly suggests that online psychotherapy can supplement the current care model. Although no changes in quality of life or resilience were reported, these findings may be due to the persistent environmental challenges that are outside the normative levels observed pre-pandemic. While the efficacy of e-CBT has been observed across various populations, it is warranted for future studies to investigate the role of gender in treatment availability and help-seeking.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterised by intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviours that considerably impact general functioning. Recent evidence links the endocannabinoid system to OCD neurobiology, and several case reports describe significant improvement after using dronabinol (synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol) in patients with severe OCD. Nevertheless, to what extent this new information can change our perspective on pharmacological treatment in OCD is unclear.

We present the case of a patient with obsessive-compulsive symptoms triggered after increased long-term cannabis use. Our purpose is to emphasise the necessity of continuous research and a better understanding of the correlation between OCD and cannabis derivates before formulating treatment recommendations.

We used psychiatric assessments to evaluate the patient’s symptoms and evolution over time and exclude other possible causes that could have triggered the disorder.

Our patient is a 37-year-old man who has been frequently brought to the hospital by the police in the last 11 years for psycho-motor agitation after cannabis use. This year, he came to the hospital by himself, complaining about intrusive thoughts that required motor and mental repetitions to reduce anxiety. His obsessions were mainly about the need for symmetry and exactness and his checking compulsions about his mother’s health. The symptoms required more than half a day and caused functional impairment. A detailed history did not outline any obsessive-compulsive symptoms before the previous year. The patient denies using new drugs, and we did not identify other medical conditions that could better explain the symptoms. However, he admits to increasing the doses and frequency of cannabis use during the last year. After two weeks of cannabis abstinence and Sertraline treatment, his symptomatology improved significantly, with a reduction of more than 50% in the time spent daily on mental and motor compulsions, reduced anxiety, and a noticeable increase in overall functionality. In addition, the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale result decreased from 35 on the first day to 17 on discharge.

Recent studies support the use of cannabis derivates for treating OCD symptoms. However, this case report outlines that prolonged cannabis use could also trigger OCD. Therefore, further studies are necessary to identify not only the potential benefits but also the potential risks of using cannabinoids as a pharmacological intervention.

Suicide is a leading cause of death among young people and most deaths by suicide occur in low and middle-income countries. School is the best place where we can identify and respond to youth suicide risk. School-based interventions for suicide prevention in young people have been successful across US, Europe and Australia, but require adaptations to be acceptable and feasible in Pakistan.

To develop and test culturally adapted preventative interventions for suicidal behaviours among pupils in secondary schools in Pakistan. The qualitative component aimed at exploring the views of students, parents, teachers and general practitioners on cultural adaptation, experience of participation, areas of improvement and suggestions for scale-up of the school-based suicide prevention program (SEPAK).

A clustered randomised controlled trial. The four culturally modified interventions 1) Linking Education and Awareness of Depression and Suicide Awareness (LEADS) Training for pupils (students=260) 2) the Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) for teachers (students=203) 3) QPR for parents (students=445); 4) Screening by Professionals (Profscreen) (students=260) were compared against control intervention (educational posters) (students=227). Structured questionnaires were administered at baseline and 1-month post-intervention to assess suicidal behaviours, psychological well-being and quality of life. A total of 8 focus groups (FGs) were conducted at pre and post intervention stage with each stakeholders.

Patient and public involvement and Engagement (PPIE) was strongly embedded in the project to ensure meaningful benefits for participants. A total of 40 schools were recruited from 8 cities across Pakistan. A total of 243 students attended LEADS intervention, 92 teachers and 304 parents completed QPR training, and 9 general practitioners were trained in ProfScreen. The retention rate at follow-up was 99% that shows feasibility of delivering intervention package in Pakistan. All participants marked SEPAK as effective in identifying risk of and preventing self-harm and suicide in young people and in improving pathways to treatment. Interventions were perceived as helpful in improving knowledge about mental health, impact of mental health difficulties on functioning, reducing stigma, equipping stakeholders to identify and signpost at-risk people. Improvement in clinical and teaching practice as well as understanding others behaviors were also reported.

This study suggest feasibility of integrating a suicide prevention program in existing educational system and highlights positive role of creating awareness about suicide in youth, introduction of school-based mental health programs, parental counseling and strengthening of the health system by training general practitioners in early identification of suicide risk and promoting suicide prevention strategies

Drug-Induced Liver Injury (DILI) is one of the most common causes of hospitalization due to liver failure and represents a considerable challenge in clinical practice. One risk factor is the long-term use of a drug. Antipsychotics are regularly prescribed over a long period of time. Therefore, potential hepatotoxicity is of particular importance here. However, DILI related to antipsychotics are still insufficiently understood.

Within a combined pharmacoepidemiologic and pharmacodynamic approach, we examined the association between DILI and the receptor affinity of various common prescribed antipsychotics.

Disproportionality analyses were used to calculate reporting odds ratios (RORs) for reports in which drug-related hepatic disorders were reported as an adverse reaction related to antipsychotics. MedDRA terms for Drug related hepatic disorders were used to identify cases. Data were extracted from VigiBase the WHO global database of reported potential side effects of medicinal products. For pharmacodynamic evaluation, we calculated Pearson correlation coefficients between affinity for various receptors and the corresponding RORs.

We observed a statistically significant (r (12) = -. 74, p = 0.002384) negative correlation between 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A receptor affinity and drug related hepatic disorders. Furthermore, we observed a statistically significant (r (8) = -. 69, p = 0.02577) negative correlation between 5-Hydroxytryptamine receptor 2B receptor affinity and drug related hepatic disorders. No statistically significant association was found for other receptors.

In this exploratory pharmacoepidemiological and pharmacodynamic approach, no particular risk for increased hepatotoxicity related to affinity for a specific receptor was found. Interestingly, a negative correlation to two serotonin receptors was found. These findings are consistent with results from the animal model, in which improved liver function and reduced fibrogenesis were observed under 5HT2B antagonists.

6-monthly paliperidone palmitate features an initiation regimen through 1-monthly paliperidone palmitate or 3-monthly paliperidone palmitate. Some patients don´t have sufficient adherence to treatment and it is necessary at the clinical level to start directly with 6-monthly paliperidone palmitte. There is une little clinical experience with these alternative initiations and throuht this work those that have been carried out for 12 months at the Rey Juan Carlos Hospital are exposed.

The main objective of the study is to describe the alternative initations performed with 6-monthly paliperidone palmitate in routine clinical practice, having opted for a regimen different from the standard for clinical reasons.

A retrospective selection of patiens will be made throuht non-probabilistic consecutive sampling, including all patients who have benn administered 6-monthly paliperidone palmitate with a stard different form the standard during the last 6 months. To do his, the electronic medical record will be used, first selecting the patients who have started 6-monthly paliperidone palmitate through the anonymized digital records and, later, including in the study only those who have followed and alternative initiation pattern. The variables studied will be the following: age, sex, diagnosis, dose of paliperidone palmitate, initiation regimen, consumption of toxic substances, absenteeism from 6-monthly paliperidone palmitate, visits to the emergency room and admissions.

The study included a total of 5 patients ( n:5). 80% of the patients were male and 20%were female. The mean age was 39.7 years. 80% of the patients had an associated substance use disorder. The following alternate sarting schedules were with biannual paliperidone palmitate: monthly paliperidone palmitate 150 mg together with semi-annual paliperidone palmitate both on day 1 ( n: 2) or monthly paliperidone palmitate 150 mg on day 1, monthly paliperidone palmitate 100 mg on day 5 and semi-annual paliperidone palmitate on day 12 ( n: 3 ).

A total of 0 visits to the emergency department and 0 admissions were observed after the 6-monthly paliperidone palmitate regimen.

Alternative initations with 6-monthly paliperidone palmitate may be a useful and safe clinical alternative in patients with very low adherence who, due to clinical needs, require startin 6-monthly paliperidone palmitate earlier in order to guarantee adherence .

Schizophrenia is characterised by a loss of contact with reality due to the presence in its symptomatology of a delusional and/or hallucinatory syndrome, also called positive symptoms and/or a dissociative syndrome, which reflects the negative component of the disease. Few studies suggest a probable link between testosterone and the symptomatic dimension of schizophrenia, but this subject remains poorly documented.

The purpose of this study was to describe Testosterone profile in male patients with schizophrenia who are naïve to antipsychotic treatment or have been off it for at least two months and to investigate the relationship between testosterone levels and disease severity.

This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study of fifty male patients hospitalized for a psychotic relapse who were naïve or discontinuing treatment for at least two months. Patients were assessed using a semi-structured questionnaire and The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). A blood sample was taken to measure testosterone level.

The age of the patients included ranged from 17 to 65 years, with an average of 36.4±11.51 years. The PANSS score ranged from 50 to 195 with a mean of 116.76 +/- 31.817. Testosterone values ranged from 2.01 to 10.03 ng/ml with a mean of 4.74± 2.01 ng/ml. The majority had normal testosterone levels (94%) ; only 4% had high values and 2% had low values. A positive correlation was found between the positive component of PANSS and elevated testosterone (p=0.011). For the other subscales, no correlation with testosterone levels.

The present study is in favour of a testosterone aggravation of the mostly positive clinical signs of the disease in a significant way. Hormone assays could thus be a specific marker of certain patient profile with a particular evolution.

Schizophrenia, a chronic and complex psychiatric pathology, can be isolated. However, it may have other comorbidities and thus be accompanied by addictive behaviors complicating their management.

to estimate the prevalence and identify the characteristics of addictive behavior among patients with schizophrenia.

A retrospective study of 151 patients with schizophrenia and hospitalized in the psychiatry department of the Taher Sfar university hospital in Mahdia from January 2017 to December 2021.

The mean age of the patients was 39.8 ± 11.23 years with a predominance of age group 36-45 years (38.4%). All of the patients were males . Three quarters of patients (75.5%) were users of psychoactive substances (PSA): nearly three quarters (72.8%) dependent on tobacco, more than a third (39.7%) dependent on alcohol, more a quarter (29.1%) dependent on cannabis and almost a quarter (26.5%) dependent on other SPA. In more than half of the cases (54.4%), the age at which SPA consumption began was between 16 and 25. SPA use preceded the onset of schizophrenia in 62.3% of case. The relationship with the entourage was marked by hetero-aggressiveness in 77.5% of the patients, a withdrawal from the entourage for 16.6% of the patients and a conflict for 5.3% of the patients. The impact on the relationship with oneself was marked by self-aggressiveness in 18.5% of patients. Regarding professional impact, three quarters of patients (76.1%) had to stop working. The majority of patients (84.1%) continued their usual treatment, while 15.2% of patients stopped it. In only one patient increased doses were necessary.

Subjects suffering from schizophrenia are particularly vulnerable to addictions, mainly to tobacco and alcohol. They are therefore a group at greater risk of harmful effects of psychoactive substances and at worsening the clinical course of their psychiatric illness. Screening and treatment measures their addictive behaviors early on, even before schizophrenia sets in, should be offered.

Nothing is taken more for granted than the feeling that we are in control of our own thoughts and actions. For those who experience thoughts insertion or delusion of control, known as first rank symptoms of schizophrenia, it becomes a luxury to rule their own thoughts. Kandinsky-Clerambault syndrome is characterized by pseudo-hallucinations, delusions of control, telepathy, thought broadcasting and thought insertion by an external force. The patient’s thoughts, emotions, perceptions or actions are under the control of a different agent, or sometimes he believes that the operator of control is inside his body.

Presentation of a clinical case of Kandinsky-Clerambault syndrome in a patient with treatment-resistant schizophrenia.

Case report

We present the case of a 38-year-old man, diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia since 2014, who has followed several therapeutic plans, starting with Haloperidol followed by Risperidone, Paliperidone, Quetiapine, Clozapine. Since 2016 he had been under treatment with Xeplion injectable 150mg/month ambulatory, but the psychotic features never fully remitted. 10 days before admission he had last administration of Xeplion LAI. The patient reports the loss of control over his mental life and describes the triple automatism: ideo-verbal, sensory and motor. “There are some people in my body who control me, they move my limbs. I feel like my body is not mine.” He describes imperative and commentative auditory pseudo-hallucinations. The patient speaks intermittently in the 3rd person about himself, has circumstantial discourse, with elements of tangentiality, ideo-verbal and conceptual disorganization. He presents delusions of control, persecution and prejudice. The treatment received during admission – Riseridone 5ml/day, Amisulpride 600mg/day, Orfiril Long 1000mg/day.

After 14 days of hospitalization, the patient is discharged in an improved state, without mentioning spontaneously the delusional ideation. He affirms the intermittent presence of auditory pseudo-hallucinations, but with low intensity compared to the moment of admission. It is ironic how the loss of the self, along with the insertion of thoughts and auditory pseudo-hallucinations create a patient’s own reality, which at the same time is experienced as coming from the outside. From a phenomenological point of view, thought insertion is explained as an autoimmune disease. Thoughts are produced by our mind, but because we have lost the meaning of control and belonging to ourselves, those thoughts are attacked as foreign.

Antipsychotics are among the most widely prescribed molecules in psychiatry. Their sexual side effects are frequent, generally underestimated by clinicians and subjectively poorly tolerated by patients. They contribute to the significant non-compliance reported in treated patients. Most antipsychotics are non-selective and have actions on a multitude of receptors, both central and peripheral. Among these, the anti-dopaminergic action could have a deleterious effect on sexual function including spermatogenesis.

The aim of our study is to report, according to the analysis of the collected data, the impact of the treatment with antipsychotic drugs on spermatogenesis and the counteraction of its consequences to a possible infertility in patients.

Antipsychotics are responsible, by blocking the secretion of dopamine in the central nervous system, for hyperprolactinemia, indirectly leading to hypogonadism. They are the pharmacological class most implicated in the occurrence of hyperprolactinemia. several studies have shown changes in the levels of sex hormones with alteration in the quality of the product of spermatogenesis, and others have demonstrated abnormalities in testicular architecture in rats after regular administration of doses of antipsychotics. thus, all antipsychotic molecules, whether classic or atopic, are likely to cause abnormalities in spermatogenesis.

Antipsychotics are molecules with multiple indications in mental health, yet their adverse effects can become disabling or even irreversible. Sexual dysfunction and infertility are widespread among patients under antipsychotic treatment. The mechanisms of the effects of treatment with these molecules on spermatogenesis are poorly elucidated, since the vast majority of prospective studies are carried out on rats. However, this undesirable effect seems to be obvious and real.

Brief psychotic disorder according to the DSM-5 is a condition of sudden onset lasting less than 1 month followed by complete remission with possible future relapses, characterized by the development of psychotic conditions. The duration of the illness is a differentiating factor from other disorders such as schizophreniform psychosis or schizophrenia. When there is a stressful event at the origin of the psychotic symptomatology, it is also called brief reactive psychosis. The pathophysiology of BPD is not known, especially given the extremely low incidence of the disorder. This condition most often affects people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, and its higher prevalence among patients with personality or mood disorders may suggest an underlying biological or psychological susceptibility that may have some genetic influence.

To describe the main diagnostic considerations, clinical manifestations, treatment, prognosis and prevention of brief reactive psychosis through the description of a clinical case that developed two episodes of brief reactive psychosis in a period of 1 year and to emphasize the importance of maintaining treatment for a period of suitable time.

We describe the clinical case of a 29-year-old woman, born in S. Tomé and Príncipe, previously healthy, with no personal or family history of mental illness, who had her first brief reactive episode after coming to Portugal. With the introduction of the 2nd generation antipsychotic, paliperidone, there was a substantial improvement in the condition, however, with the development of side effects having subsequently abandoned the treatment. About 1 year after starting work in Portugal, she develops a new event, a new psychotic episode, with characteristics of a brief psychotic disorder.

It is extremely important to alert patients to the possible side effects of drugs, as well as those who experience a brief psychotic episode, which are the risk factors and the need to comply with treatment in order to avoid a new relapse.

The child is stimulated in the problem-solving and the decision-makings strategies, in order to achieve formal diversifications. In the preventive activities we include all activities involving nonverbal communication and holistic engagement of people in creative activities, specific to visual arts (plastic, decorative design and multimedia), facilitating school reintegration or optimizing the school situation, completing the general and specialized culture.

The individual skills are traced by the specific means of the visual arts; moreover, we care about the individual capacities, the freedom to follow his own destiny, encouraging the joy to manifest creatively on several levels of difficulty in any activity. These activities lead to changes in the attitudes towards the work or the discovery of recreational activities and the use of leisure time.

Considering the diversity of the child`s non-verbal communication, art therapy, occupational and play therapy are not a mere accessory method within the therapeutic process of the emotional disorders of children, but a mandatory condition of it. Multiple Sclerosis is a neurodegenerative, demyelinating disease that affects the Central Nervous System. Except for motor dysfunction and sensory deficit, patients suffering from this disorder often have neuropsychiatric symptoms, such as: depressive mood, fatigue, and cognitive impairment. Depression is the most common mental disorder in Multiple Sclerosis, and the risk that MS patients develop depression during their entire life is >50%.

A regular, clinical study approach has been used on a 49-year old woman, who was diagnosed with depressive Disorder 2 years ago and then Multiple Sclerosis, as well as recent literature on depressive disorders in comorbidity with Multiple Sclerosis.

The factors that considerably impact the development of depression are age, gender, insomnia, cognitive impairment, MS clinical picture, and immunotherapy treatment. Depression was diagnosed at the clinical interview, based on DSM-5 diagnosis criteria and Beck Inventory, whereas MS diagnosis was determined by neurological examination and head MRI. The patient was treated with tricyclic antidepressants, SSRIs, SNRIs, atypical antipsychotics for depression, and teriflunomide for MS. Depression has been recurrent, despite being regularly treated with psychotropic medications

Depressive disorders in comorbidity with multiple sclerosis are often undiagnosed and improperly treated. Many factors influence the development and progression of depression, as well as the Multiple Sclerosis clinical picture, above all. Early diagnosis and optimal treatment of them are essential to control the disease and improve the quality of life.

Depression, anxiety and suicide are serious psychiatric conditions that affect Mexican youth (Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, IHME, 2022), with depression showing a prevalence greater than 16%. Suicide ranks as the second most important cause of deathin this age group, (6/100,000 deaths), the first being violent deaths by firearms (15/100,000 deaths;IHME, 2022).

To identify factors related to age of onset of pediatric depression.

A cross-sectional study was carried out during 2018-2020 in two Children’s Psychiatric Hospitals in Mexico City. Data were collected using a survey method. All participants signed an informed consent form. We applied Cox hazard analysis, with the hazard event being the onset of psychiatric symptoms.

Data from 400 patients were analyzed, 148 girls (37%) and 252 boys (63%). Mean patient age was 12 years, and mean age of symptom onset was 8 years. The most common diagnoses were hyperkinetic disorder (51%), depression (34%), and anxiety (7.8%). Age of depression onset was significantly reduced in association with male sex (HR=1.46), family history of psychiatric disorder (familial depression HR=2.34; hyperkinetic disorder HR=2.67; psychoactive substance abuse HR=5.09), and certain medical comorbidities (asthma HR=6.41; enuresis HR=3.03). These same covariates were not associated with age of onset of hyperkinetic disorder or anxiety.

These analyses indicate that a subgroup of pediatric depression has an early onset and is associated with familial hyperkinetic disorder and depression, the male sex, and certain medical comorbidities.

In recent research, psychological disorders have been increasingly defined as complex dynamic systems in which symptoms are interconnected and influence each other, thereby forming symptom networks. This paradigm shift calls for the analysis and interpretation of relationships between symptoms that are complex, potentially non-linear, and dynamic. Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) is used to measure similarity in temporal sequences, and has recently been found effective in modelling psychopathology symptom networks.

We aim to demonstrate that DTW could also be used to model the network structure in Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) data.

355 participants of the Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (NESDA), of which 100 with and 255 without current disorder, completed EMA assessments of 20 symptoms (e.g., feeling sad, tired, satisfied) five times a day for two weeks. DTW analysis was performed on the group level, comparing participants suffering from mood disorders to healthy controls. DTW distances were visualized as an undirected symptom network, in which we adjusted for the average symptom severity per item per person.

DTW analysis of close to half a million symptom scores yielded six symptom dimensions based on their aggregated similarity of changes over time within the participants. Surprisingly, negative affect symptom networks were found to be less strongly connected in those currently suffering from mood disorders than in controls, whereas the network density of (reverse-coded) positive affect symptoms was more closely connected in this group. This is contrary to the results of previous studies, where negative affect-related symptom networks of those with mood disorders were found to be more strongly interconnected.

DTW is a promising new technique for analyzing EMA data and modeling dynamic symptom networks at both the individual and group levels. Using EMA data, symptom networks and dimensions can be modeled with great structural and temporal detail. Incorporating the temporal symptom dynamics may highlight the importance of the independent trajectories of negative mood symptoms.

Social network addicts may differ significantly from non-addicts in terms of personality traits, such as agreeableness, neuroticism, and conscientiousness. Addicts may be prone to negative emotions and unpleasant experiences, which may be associated with a higher level of neuroticism. Addicts often fail to cope in the real world, often experience negative emotions, quickly give up their goals, see themselves and others in a negative light, and escape into virtual reality. The virtual world is devoid of the anxiety that an individual faces in real life interactions, hence the tendency for addiction among people with higher levels of neuroticism. The primary cause of Internet Addiction may be innate temperamental traits (i.e., impulsiveness of behavior and impulsiveness of decisions) that influence the susceptibility to functional and chemical addictions. According to the concept of addictive personality, people who have this problem are prone to addiction as such, regardless of what they are addicted to.

The purpose of this study was to generally assess the degree of women’s dependence on social networking sites on the example of Facebook, taking into account personality traits according to the five-factor model of personality, the so-called Big Five by Costa and McCrae

The study included 556 women. This survey-based study was carried out using the questionnaire technique. The following research tools were used to analyze behavioral addictions in adult women: the Bergen Face- book Addiction Scale (BFAS), the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO FFI) and the author’s questionnaire.

Among the surveyed women, 69.6% were average Facebook users, of whom 16.4% had scores indicating possible Facebook addiction, and 14.0% had scores indicating addiction. The higher the neuroticism, the more serious the Facebook addiction (r = 0.26; p < 0.001; R2 = 6.7%). A weak negative correlation was obtained for the agreeableness subscale e (r = -0.08; p < 0.05; R2 = 7.2%). A weak negative correlation was also obtained for the subscale of conscientiousness (r = -0.16; p < 0.001; R2 = 2.6%). There was no statistically significant correlation between the log10 score obtained on the BFAS and the score on the NEO-FFI subscales of extraversion (r = 0.04; p = 0.40) and openness to experience (r = 0.04; p = 0.30).

The personality types of the studied women indicated relationships in terms of behavioral addictions. Women characterized by neuroticism showed stronger addiction to Facebook. Women characterized by high conscientiousness were at lower risk of behavioral addictions, while agreeableness as a personality trait significantly protected the surveyed women against Facebook addiction.

Digital technologies and advances in computational methods have become key drivers of innovation in many medical fields. In precision psychiatry, accurate and reliable measures of mental health are critical for informing patient care and clinical research. There has been growing concern over the limitations of traditional mental health assessments that are typically grounded in nosology defined by the DSM and are based on interviewer-led assessments or patient self-report questionnaires. Whereas such gold-standard clinical assessments can be cost-prohibitive, insensitive to change, and prone to subjective biases, the use of digital technologies provides an opportunity to improve the practical feasibility as well as the inter-rater and test-retest reliability of repeated mental health assessments. The key promise of this approach is to unlock the clinical potential of digital technologies in ways that foster research of high clinical relevance and impact on clinical care. I will discuss these promises and challenges for the future use of machine learning approaches for predicting and monitoring post-traumatic stress and resilience.

People presenting to hospital in a crisis of mental ill-health usually present via Emergency Departments, and are often admitted for brief interventions. Unlike drug treatments, the evidence base for brief non-pharmacological interventions has not been systematically evaluated.

1. To describe brief non-pharmacological interventions used in Emergency Departments and inpatient psychiatric units, for those in a crisis of mental ill-health, and evaluate the study types and outcome measures used to evaluate them;

2. To conduct a systematic review of this evidence

We searched the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), CINAHL, DARE, Embase, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and relevant government and non-government organisation websites for peer reviewed journal articles, including both qualitative and quantitative articles. Interventions were sorted into Categories and Types to manage heterogeneity.

We found 47 studies. Interventions were highly varied, and we created a taxonomy to understand this heterogeneity. Most studies were quasi-experimental trials (n=26; 55%) or qualitative studies (n=13; 27%) and only 8 RCTs (17%). Twelve were high quality (26%). Interventions were mostly found to have no effect on measured outcomes, though outcome measures may not have been best suited to expected domains of change.There was a broad range of outcome foci reflecting inconsistency in goals of interventions. No interventions were found to reduce the incidence of self-harm on the inpatient ward. One study suggests that inpatient safety planning may reduce readmission rates. Aggression-related outcomes for inpatient sensory modulation rooms were equivocal. Brief admissions with psychotherapy may reduce suicide attempt repetition and re-hospitalization, whereas brief admissions without psychotherapy may improve function but not re-hospitalization rates. Face-to-face psychoeducation for panic in the ED was associated with a reduction in ED presentation rates, but brochure-only psychoeducation may increase ED presentation rates.

This review found little evidence to guide much of what clinicians do for people in crisis in hospital. There is a need to develop a framework for brief non-pharmacological interventions, address the quality and size of studies, and identify consistent outcome measures for non-pharmacological interventions. The data is insufficient to make clear recommendations for appropriate brief non-pharmacological interventions for people in crisis in Emergency Departments and Psychiatric Inpatient Units. Multiple promising interventions are available for further study, however there is a dearth of research and more rigorous testing is needed.

Sexual dysfunction (SD) is a prevalent side effect of antipsychotic drugs (AP), and it impairs patients’ quality of life. Because of the distress caused by it, it should be borne in mind when prescribed since it is responsible for treatment nonadherence or discontinuation. SD affects about 45- 80% of males and 30-80% of females that take it. In SD, all phases of the sexual response cycle may be compromised.

This non-systematic review of the literature aims to better understand the antipsychotic-induced SD and its management to better compliance of AP-treated patients without compromising their quality of life.

A semi-structured review on PubMed linking SD as a side effect of AP drugs.

All AP drugs can cause SD. It seems related to their mechanism of activity at receptors D2, 5-HT2, α1, H1, and M, which are also involved in sexual function. They do it by diminishing arousal, decreasing libido by blocking motivation and reward system and orgasm indirectly, provoking erectile dysfunction by vasodilatation, and decreasing woman lubrification. Hyperprolactinemia is a significant cause of sexual dysfunctions. Haloperidol, Risperidone, and Amisulpride (prolactin elevating AP) are more likely to cause SD than Olanzapine, Clozapine, Quetiapine, and Aripiprazole (prolactin sparing AP). Although psychotic disorders (Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders) can impact sexual functioning, according to evidence, there is no denying the role of AP in this issue. Aripiprazole, a D2 partial agonist, has been associated with lower rates of SD and seems to reduce the rates of SD in patients previously treated with other AP. Other AP with the same potential dopamine agonist activity, such as Cariprazine and Brexpiprazole, can probably have the same effect. The management of SD induced by AP drugs should include measuring serum prolactin and modifying risk factors like hypertension, smoking, hyperglycemia, and hypercholesterolemia. In that regard, waiting for spontaneous remission, reducing the dose of the AP prescribed, or switching to Aripiprazole are all viable strategies, if possible. Although the evidence supporting the addition of symptomatic therapies is weak, adding dopaminergic drugs (amantadine, bromocriptine, cabergoline) or drugs with specific effects on sexual functioning (such as phosphodiesterase inhibitors or yohimbine) may be helpful in selected cases.

Although all AP drugs can cause sexual dysfunction, it is difficult to determine its true prevalence accurately. AP-induced sexual dysfunction can adversely affect compliance and is one of the factors that must be considered when selecting treatment. In summarizing, Aripiprazole has shown to be the AP with the most favorable profile concerning SD. Cariprazine and Brexpiprazole, being also D2 partial agonists, may cause less SD.
