Despite studies pointing to the important role of relational and community factors in influencing mental health during times of crises such as the current pandemic, little research has examined protective factors at the relational/community level that serve protective factors against mental health impairment in response to the current pandemic.

This study aims to address this gap and examines protective factors against adverse mental health consequences related to the pandemic at the relational and community levels among individuals residing in high-risk marginalized low-resourced settings in Guatemala at one and a half years post onset of the pandemic

Telephone surveys were administered to 100 participants to assess sociodemographic characteristics, psychosocial functioning, and protective factors (interpersonal support, psychoeducation, community resources, and adaptive coping) against psychological distress. (anxiety, depression, stress, burnout). Multiple linear regressions were used to examine predictors of mental health impairment.

Our findings demonstrate that only psychoeducation serves a protective factor against psychological distress.Interpersonal support was found to predict increased levels of anxiety and depression and adaptive coping was found to predict increased levels of anxiety, depression, and burnout. No significant relationship between community resources and any type of mental health impairment was found.

Public mental health efforts should capitalize on the effectiveness of psychoeducation to promote strategies for managing symptoms of psychological distress as well as providing information regarding resources and services. In the context of complex emergencies that have an immediate effect on already scarce resources at a personal, community, and institutional levels, psychoeducation has the advantage of a low-cost intervention, easily transferable between communities, providing immediate support as well as sustainability over time.

According to the UN Refugee Agency, around 100 million individuals were estimated to be forcibly displaced worldwide in 2022 due to violence, war or other human rights violations. This represents a doubling in the global population of forcibly displaced individuals during the last decade. War migrants are frequently exposed to multiple traumas, including direct or indirect exposure to violence, as well as extended periods of insecurities in access to housing, clothes, food, education and health care. As a corollary, war migrants face extensive health risks, including elevated risks of psychiatric disorders with potential implications for the development of other conditions, e.g. autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases. The most recent evidence of the health risks of war migrants will be reviewed along with possible mitigating factors of such adverse sequalae.

Depression is highly prevalent and causes a heavy burden in adolescent life. Being praised for prosocial behavior might be a preventive factor because both being praised and prosocial behavior are protective against depression. However, no study has investigated the association between experiences of being praised for prosocial behavior and depressive symptoms in adolescents.

Here, we investigated the longitudinal relationship between being praised for prosocial behavior and depressive symptoms in adolescents.

In Tokyo Teen Cohort study (TTC), an ongoing prospective population-based cohort study, we collected 3,171 adolescents’ data on self-reported experiences of being praised for prosocial behavior, depressive symptoms, and caregiver-evaluated prosocial behavior. Ten-year-old children were asked to freely describe answers to the question “What are you praised for?”. Only children who clearly answered that they were praised for their prosocial behavior were designated the “prosocial praise group.” The degree of depression at ages 10 and 12 was measured with the Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (SMFQ), a self-report questionnaire about depression. Objective prosocial behavior of the 10 year-old children was assessed by the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire (SDQ). Multiple linear regression analysis was performed using the SMFQ score at age 12 as the objective variable and being praised for prosocial behavior as the main explanatory variable, and the SMFQ score at age 10 and the objective prosocial behavior at age 10 were included as confounders.

3,007 pairs of child and their primary caregiver participated in the second data collection at the age of 12 years (follow-up rate was 94.8%). Regarding the question “What are you praised for?”, 845 (28.1%) children answered that they were praised for prosocial behavior. Depressive symptoms (SMFQ scores) in the “prosocial praise group” were significantly lower than those in the other group both at age 10 (4.3 ± 4.4 vs. 4.9 ± 4.6, p < 0.001) and at age 12 (3.4 ± 4.2 vs. 4.0 ± 4.6, p < 0.01). In the single regression analysis, the children who reported being praised for prosocial behavior at age 10 had significantly lower depressive symptoms at age 12 (partial regression variable: −0.57, 95% confidence interval (CI) [−0.96, −0.17]). This association remained significant after adjusting for confounders, including baseline depressive symptoms (partial regression variable: −0.44, 95% CI [−0.80, −0.08]). Prosocial behavior alone was not associated with depressive symptoms.

The purposes of this study is present a structured interview called the Structured Family Business Interview (SBFI) that is a theoretical and practical contribution to access and to promote mental health in organizations.

The Structured Family Business Interview (SFBI) is a structured interview comprised of six tasks which are assigned to the family as a group some of them are hypothetical or role-play type, and they are addressed to a particular family group in the family business.

The relational processes is observed first-hand by the interviewer and by a trained observer who audio-records and documents the non-verbal signals.

This technique was developed and tested in family firm context. In this section we will present illustrative answers to various dimensions studied in a large research project in mental health with family businesses. Results show good indicators of the SFBI capacity to assess dynamic and systemics dimensions of the teams in family firm. Those dimensions are: communication, rules, roles, conflicts, integration and aggressiveness analyzed to promote health resources and human and organizational development. The research with several work teams indicate that it allows for a precise evaluation of the variables.

The Structured Family Business Interview specifically designed for family business takes into account intangible variables described in the organizational management literature like the systemic constructs that has a strong impact on the health of organizations. In addition to the specific contribution to management tools, it is expected that this interview may help to develop new studies and practices about organizational health in work and in family businesses.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)is perhaps the most popular of the newbrain stimulation techniques because its clinical effects are produced without the need for a craniotomy (as with deep brainstimulation (DBS)) or seizure induction(as with electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)).Recently ,TMS is typically used to improve depression symptoms when other depression treatments haven’t been effective.

A narrative review was conducted basedon a search in pubmed using thekeywords: “rTMS” and “depression”.

One of the reviews studied proved the efficacy of rtms in the treatment of depressionbut there is still a clinical need for the complementary use of antidepressants.Although rTMS is more expensive than conventional antidepressants, it remains more interesting for patients who have not found benefits with pharmacological treatments.The other review also demonstrated the antidepressant effect of rTMS and that this effect, once completed, appears to be as long-lasting as that of antidepressants. TMS is also a promising new therapy and a powerful research tool. The body of TMS literature suggests that daily, left prefrontal TMS for 3–6 weeks has antidepressanteffects that are clinically meaningful (30% remission), with low side effects and nodrug-drug interactions. Furthermore, TMS shows promise in several other psychiatricdisorders, particularly treating acute and chronic pain.

Even though The Food and drug administration (FDA) has accorded RTMS’ initial clearance of the first device in 2008 ,additional researches are still needed.The TMS coil location, stimulation intensity and frequency, and dosing strategy have to be more precise for better results.

Violence against women is a violation of human rights and is part of one of the sustainable development goals. Thus, it is very important to be able to guarantee healthcare spaces from a differential approach, in which they will be developed that promote equality and will help to prevent violence. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse the social representation that future professionals will have in health, and that can affect the approach given to this phenomenon.

To analyse the social representations of violence against women in psychology students at a university in the Colombian Caribbean.

The study was qualitative, exploratory and for convenience, with the application by web platform. The sample consisted of 110 psychology students from a university in the Colombian Caribbean, aged between 18 and 32 years (M=21; SD=3). The technique of free association of words and the application of semi-structured interviews were produced to identify the central and peripheral nucleus of social representation. For data analysis, the Atlas.ti version 22 software was obtained.

It was found that the social representation of violence against women, in its strongest association, deals with the types of physical violence, highlighting among these physical beatings, rapes, assaults and femicides. Likewise, the effects that this phenomenon generates on the mental health of the victims and its relationship with stereotypes about gender roles, in turn, the presence of problems in the judicial system, which end up causing many cases to go unpunished or re-victimize women.

Violence against women constitutes a health problem, having professionals in this area who can understand the psychological impact, generates advantages in the development of strategies aimed at guaranteeing better care, which contributes not only to prevent this phenomenon but also to avoiding revictimization from mental health services.

Three-dimensional chromatin interactions regulate gene expressions. The significance of de novo mutations (DNMs) in chromatin interactions remains poorly understood for autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

To investigate the genomic architecture of ASD in terms of non-coding de novo mutations and 3-dimensional chromatin interactions

We generated 813 whole-genome sequences from 242 Korean simplex families to detect DNMs, and identified target genes which were putatively affected by non-coding DNMs in chromatin interactions.

Non-coding DNMs in chromatin interactions were significantly involved in transcriptional dysregulations related to ASD risk. Correspondingly, target genes showed spatiotemporal expressions relevant to ASD in developing brains and enrichment in biological pathways implicated in ASD, such as histone modification. Regarding clinical features of ASD, non-coding DNMs in chromatin interactions particularly contributed to low intelligence quotient levels in ASD probands. We further validated our findings using two replication cohorts, Simons Simplex Collection (SSC) and MSSNG, and showed the consistent enrichment of non-coding DNM-disrupted chromatin interactions in ASD probands. Generating human induced pluripotent stem cells in two ASD families, we were able to demonstrate that non-coding DNMs in chromatin interactions alter the expression of target genes at the stage of early neural development.

Taken together, our findings indicate that non-coding DNMs in ASD probands lead to early neurodevelopmental disruption implicated in ASD risk via chromatin interactions.

Disorganization is a core dimension of schizophrenia, yet it is relatively under-investigated compared to positive and negative ones, especially at the illness onset. Indeed, most of the empirical studies investigating the disorganized domain included patients with prolonged schizophrenia.

Thus, the aims of this research were (1) to monitor the longitudinal stability of disorganized symptoms in young patients with First Episode Schizophrenia (FES) along a 2-year follow-up period, and (2) to examine any significant association of disorganization with functioning, psychopathology and the specific treatment components of an “Early Intervention in Psychosis” (EIP) program across the 2 years of follow-up.

At baseline, 159 FES individuals (aged 12–35 years) completed the Positive And Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF). Spearman’s correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression analysis were carried out. Specifically, the PANSS “Disorganization” dimension included 8 PANSS items: “Conceptual Disorganization”, “Difficulty in Abstract Thinking”, “Stereotyped Thinking”, “Mannerisms and Posturing”, “Disorientation”, “Poor Attention”, “Disturbance of Volition” and “Preoccupation”.

At baseline, the PANSS “Disorganization” dimension score had significant positive correlations with all other PANSS factor subscores, as well as significant negative correlation with the GAF score. The statistically strongest association was with the PANSS “Negative” domain score. Along the 2-year follow-up period, a significant decrease in the PANSS “Disorganization” dimension subscore was observed. This reduction was related to score decreases in all the other PANSS domains (especially the “Negative” one) and an increase in GAF scores. Furthermore, decreaes in PANSS “Disorganization” dimension scores showed a significant positive correlation with the total number of individual psychotherapy sessions provided to FES patients during the first year of the Pr-EP protocol (also confimed by our multiple linear regression analysis results).

Disorganization is clinically relevant in FES patients, already at the recruitment within specialized EIP programs. In particular, disorganized dimension in FES had significant enduring associations with functioning deterioration and negative symptoms. However, improvement in disorganization levels seems to be due to the intensity of individual psychotherapy sessions offered to FES individuals in the first year of intervention within specific EIP programs.

The evolution of schizophrenia with age remains poorly studied. The prevalence of negative symptoms in elderly people with schizophrenia is even less described in the literature.

to evaluate the prevalence of remission of negative symptoms in the elderly and to study the sociodemographic and clinical variables associated with this remission.

The sample consisted of 83 subjects aged 55 years and over, followed at the psychiatry department "G" of the Razi hospital in Tunis and suffering from schizophrenia according to the DSM5 criteria. Global remission was defined as a score below 4 on the seven negative symptom items of the PANSS. A questionnaire was administered to each patient to collect epidemiological and anamnestic data.

59% of the sample showed remission of global negative symptoms. 84% and 60% were in remission on the emotional and cognitive subscales, respectively. The existence of remission was correlated with lower PANSS global score, more preserved cognitive functioning, later age of onset, more family and social support, and the absence of a concomitant somatic illness.

This study showed that measures to optimize treatment of positive symptoms and cognitive functioning may have an impact on negative symptoms. Similarly, quality of social network in later life impacts the level of negative symptoms.

Past research examining the relationship between psychosis and criminality has typically focused on chronic schizophrenia and violence. However, contact with the criminal justice system is not constrained to the most unwell or most violent. The present study is novel as it examines the different clinical stages of psychosis, from the at-risk mental states (ARMS)/Ultra-High Risk (UHR) to the early and chronic psychotic illness phase, across the entire spectrum of criminal offending.

The main study objective is to establish the prevalence of the clinical stages of psychosis among adults entering custody and to examine the sociodemographic and forensic characteristics associated with the different stages of psychosis. A further aim is to examine whether psychosis-spectrum prisoners differ from non-psychotic prison controls across these characteristics.

Participants consist of unselected 291 adult male and female prisoners entering the largest maximum security reception centres in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. They completed a range of semi-structured questionnaires and adapted mental health screening measures. The Comprehensive Assessment of At Risk Mental States (CAARMS; Yung et al., 2005) was used to ascertain whether participants met the Ultra High Risk (UHR), First Episode of Psychosis (FEP) or Established Psychosis (EP) criteria.

Participants were 34.25 years old (SD = 10.69) on average and men were significantly older than women (p = 0.035). Among prisoners with a psychosis-spectrum illness (n = 121), the prevalence of UHR was 24%, First Episode Psychosis (FEP) was 6% and established psychosis was 11%. Compared to controls, psychosis spectrum prisoners were found to have higher levels of social disadvantage, psychiatric comorbidities and multiple incarceration episodes. However, psychosis was not associated with a greater risk of violent offending. Implications on the complex illness burden associated with psychosis and the need for early identification and intervention across forensic mental health services will be further discussed.

This study is novel as it examines the full spectrum of psychotic illness across the entire spectrum of criminal offending. The findings support the notion that risk of criminal justice contact and complex illness burden exist across the different clinical stages of psychosis, from the UHR to the early FEP and chronic psychosis stages, for both violent and non-violent offending. Early intervention services must consider how to more effectively identify and intervene to reduce the risk of criminal justice system contact among mentally ill individuals.

It has been reported an inflammatory state in schizophrenia, with altered levels of some cytokines (Zhou et al. Cytokine 2021; 141:155441). Recent publications have shown the importance of IL- 33, a member of the IL-1 cytokine family which acts as an alarmin (Han et al. Neurosci Bull 2011; 27, 351-357). The role of this cytokine as a biomarker has been investigated in schizophrenia (Koricanac et al. Front Psychiatry 2022; 13, 925757). However, results are controversial. Some studies have not found significant associations between IL-33 and chronic schizophrenia (Campos-Carli et al. Compr Psychiatry 2017; 74 96-101), while other papers have reported increased levels (Kozlowska et. al. J Psychiatr Res. 2021; 138 380-387). In all these studies, levels of IL-33 were measured in a single daily measure, so that it has not been studied if IL-33 has changes during hospitalization.

To study the serum level of IL-33 at 12:00 and 00:00 hours in schizophrenia patients at admission and before hospital discharge.

Fifteen inpatients with diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia according to ICD-10 criteria were studied. Patients were hospitalized at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands psychiatric ward because of an acute relapse. A total of four blood samples were taken from each patient: at 12:00 and 00:00 hours the day after admission and at 12:00 and 00:00 hours the day before discharge. Serum IL-33 levels were measured by ELISA techniques. Daytime and nighttime IL-33 serum levels at admission and discharge were compared using a non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test.

In table 1 the results of the comparison of IL-33 at admission and discharge are presented. There is a significant reduction of IL-33 levels at 00:00 h. at discharge in comparison with the IL-33 levels at 00:00 h. at admission (p=0.028). No other statistically significant differences were observed.

The decrease of serum IL-33 at 00:00 at discharge compared to the 00:00 IL-33 serum level at admission points to the utility of this biomarker as a surrogate of brain inflammation.

Despite its well-known acute and long-term harmful effects on a person’s mental health and well-being, alcohol remains the most commonly used psychoactive substance among adolescents after tobacco products in many countries.

We aimed at studying the prevalence of alcohol use, and identify associated factors in Tunisian high school adolescents.

We used national data from the 2021-Mediterranean School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (MedSPAD). Based on a clustered two-stage stratification sampling method, a representative sample of teenagers aged 16 to 18 years, was selected. Data collection was performed using a self-administered standardized questionnaire, assessing socio-demographic characteristics and risky behaviours, and including questions about alcoholic beverages patterns of use. Binary logistic regression model was used to assess associated factors and adjusted Odds Ratios (AORs) were presented with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Cspro software was used for data entry and all statistical analysis were performed with STATA software.

A total of 6201 adolescents with a mean age of 16.8 years and a sex ratio female/male of 1.5 were enrolled.

Lifetime prevalence of alcoholic beverages consumption was 8.0%, 95% CI [7.0, 9,1] (n=6196). The prevalence of alcohol consumption during the previous year and month were 5.1 % and 1.7% respectively. Cocktails and beer were the most frequently consumed beverages.

Prevalence of alcohol use was significantly associated with tobacco, cannabis and e-cigarettes use (AOR 9.5, 6.0 and 1.9 respectively; p≤10-3), a higher frequency of nights spent away from home, school absenteeism for non-medical reasons and enrolment in the private sector.

Alcohol intoxication was reported by 2.9% of respondents during their lifetime.

Early onset was reported by 17.2% of respondents for alcohol use and 10.1% for alcohol intoxication.

Although the prevalence of alcohol use was relatively low among Tunisian adolescents compared to European adolescents, early onset- indicating an increased risk of developing an alcohol use disorder- warrant the implementation of primary prevention interventions through mental health promotion and life skill trainings to halt these trends and avert the raising burden of morbidity and mortality attributable to alcohol use.

After two years of pandemic with COVID-19 Europe is facing a war, which has already caused numerous death and injuries, mass displacement, and aggravated the economic and energy crisis and has left most countries completely unprepared and created a humanitarian crisis. The COVID-19 pandemics crisis pointed out the unpreparedness of the health (including mental health) sectors for the emergency situations. However, we also learnt some of the practices that proved effective – including the fast creation of collaborative networks on a larger scale that also allowed fast spread of good practices and practical organisation of help. The European Psychiatric Association as well as individual national psychiatric association have started an informal network of solidarity for Ukraine on February 28th, 2022 to respond to the needs of people in Ukraine as verbalized by the Ukrainian mental health professionals, but also to the need of surrounding countries where people from Ukraine fled to. Through this network several actions, including financial support, medical donations and education. The Croatian Psychiatric Association took the lead in the organisation of education for first line helpers and volunteers from Ukraine and countries surrounding Ukraine where displaced persons fled to, in collaboration with many partners.

The early diagnostic of schizophrenia and other psychosis is very important for the early therapeutic interventions.

The aim is to describe the connection between the prodromal stage of psychosis and clinical features.

74 patients with late-onset psychosis (mean age 64,33±9, 2 male; age of onset 55,3±11,2): late-onset schizophrenia (LOS) (n=49, mean age 63,0±8,47, age of onset 53,9±9,56), late-onset schizoaffective disorder (LOSaD) (n=17, mean age 62,4±6,5, age of onset 54,6±10,6, 2 male), late onset delusion disorder (LODD) (n=8, mean age 76,6±4,3, age of onset 65,2±17,0). Psychopathological, statistical methods were applied.

Allocated 4 types of prodromal stage – 1st without psychopathological signs (n=24, 33%), 2nd – with affective signs like disturbances of mood, anxiety (n=18, 24%), 3rd – with paranoid signs like acute stress-related paranoid reactions without medication; 4th - with schizoid signs with overvaluated ideas. In the 1st group next syndromes prevailed: with secondary persecutory mood-congruent delusions (n=10, 41,7%); with auditory second-person pseudohallucinations with sistematyzed persecutory delusions (n=9, 37,5%); with only systematized persecutory delusions (n=1, 4,1%); with bizzarre delusions (n=3, 12,5%) and with polymorphic symptoms, include different hallucinations, catatonia disorders and with some oneiroid state signs (n=1, 4,1%). In this group 9 patients were diagnosed with LOS (37,5%); 12 patients with LOSaD (50%) and 3 patients with LODD (12,5%). The 2nd group was presented with auditory second-person pseudohallucinations with sistematyzed persecutory delusions (n=5, 27.7%), with secondary persecutory delusions with delusion mood (n=11, 61%), with systemized persecutory delusional - 5.5% (n=1) and with catatonia (n=1, 5.5%). In this group 12 patients were diagnosed with LOS (66%), 5 patients with LOSaD (28%) and 1 patient with LODD (5.5%). In the 3rd group these syndromes prevailed: with auditory second-person pseudohallucinations with sistematyzed persecutory delusions (n=7, 63%), with secondary persecutory delusions with delusion mood - in 2 cases (18.2%), with bizarre delusions - in 2 cases (18.2%). 12 patients were diagnosed with LOS (n=10.91%) and 1 patient with LODD (1.9%). The 4th group was presented with auditory second-person pseudohallucinations with sistematyzed persecutory delusions (n=5, 23.8%), with secondary persecutory delusions with delusion mood (n=3, 14.3%), with bizarre delusions (n=6, 28.6%), with systemized persecutory delusions (n=1, 4.7%), with catatonia (n=2, 9.5%) and with polymorphic symptoms (n=4, 20%). 18 patients were diagnosed with LOS (85.7%) and 3 patients - with LODD (14.3%).

Research suggested that psychosis and mental illness-related experiences can be extremely traumatic, and that psychosis could theoretically also lead to posttraumatic growth (Mazor et al., 2019; PTG). The promotion of PTG may contribute to the treatment of people who experienced massive traumas such as people with severe mental illness (SMI). Psychotic symptoms are a common feature of SMI, and individuals who have experienced psychosis are also more likely to have been exposed to trauma and are more vulnerable to developing posttraumatic symptomatology (Ng et al., 2021). Negative symptoms such as amotivation could also contribute to the traumatic experiencing of psychosis (Mazor et al., 2016). Amotivation is specifically relevant to the possible traumatic sequelae of psychosis (Mueser et al., 2010). Alongside the adverse consequences of psychopathological symptoms is the unique outcome of coping with adversity (Tedeschi & Calhoun, 1995)- PTG. Two important factors that contribute to PTG is coping self-efficacy (CSE), and meaning making (Mazor et al., 2018). We investigated the possibility of PTG in individuals with SMI, through the mediating effect of CSE and meaning making.

Recent research has shown high rates of exposure to trauma among people with SMI, and that psychosis and mental illness-related experiences can be extremely traumatic. While some develop PTSD, it has been noted that some may also experience PTG. However, few studies have examined PTG in this population.

121 participants were recruited from community mental health centers and administered trauma and psychiatric questionnaires. Study protocol was approved by the University of Haifa ethics board.

High levels of traumatic exposure were found in the sample. Furthermore, we found that people who endured psychosis can experience PTG, which was mediated by meaning making (MLQ) and CSE. Psychotic symptoms were found to be a major obstacle for PTG, whereas negative symptoms were found to have the potential to lead to PTG when mediated by meaning making and CSE.

Mediation analyses for the dimensions of PANSS, MLQ total, CSE total, and PTGI total (N=121)

The portrayed research provided preliminary evidence for the potential role of meaning making and CSE as mediators of PTG in the clinical, highly traumatized population of people with SMI who have experienced psychosis.

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the domain of subjective well-being as a relevant indicator of the quality of hospital care, distinct from measures of symptom improvement and satisfaction with care reported by patients, assuming they only incompletely reflect inpatients’ unmet needs and expectations. We hypothesised that the patients’ measures of subjective well-being (generic PROMs) at discharge are only partially related to the satisfaction with the experience of care (PREMs), that in turn differs from the clinician’s experience of the provided care, and symptom improvement (disease-specific PROMs).

Two hundred and forty-eight inpatients of a psychiatric university hospital were included in the study between January and June 2021. Subjective well-being was assessed using standardised generic PROMs on well-being, symptom improvement was assessed using standardised disease-specific PROMs, and experience of care with PREMs. PROMs were completed at admission and discharge, PREMs were completed at discharge. Clinicians rated their experience of provided treatment using adapted PREMs items.

Change in subjective well-being (PROMs) at discharge was significantly (p<.001), but moderately (r²=28.5%), correlated to improvement in symptom outcomes, and weakly correlated to the experience of care (PREMs) (r²=11.0%), the latter being weakly explained by symptom changes (r²=6.9%. Patients and clinicians assessed differently the experience of care.

Findings confirmed our hypothesis showing that across mental disorders improvement in subjective well-being was weakly correlated to the experience of care and moderately, negatively, correlated to symptom outcomes. Improvement in symptoms was found to be the strongest predictor of increase in subjective well-being at discharge, but it explained only a moderate part of its variance.

In conclusion, this study shows that PROMs and PREMs have potential as key indicators of high quality care across mental health services, and supports the case for measuring subjective well-being as a relevant indicator in its own right, particularly in psychiatric hospital treatments. Patient-reported measures enable the implementation of patient-centred therapeutic management and the delivery of services focused on achieving outcomes that matter to patients across the full pathway of care.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the measures to control the pandemic adversely affected the mental health of children and adolescents; however, studies examining the effects of the pandemic on child and adolescent mental health services are scarce

Our study aims to show how this unexpected pandemic affecting all humanity and the accompanying restrictions affect the admissions to the child psychiatry service.

In this study, the diagnoses, the treatments used, and the length of hospital stay of inpatient child and adolescent psychiatry patients were obtained and compared between the normal period and the pandemic period. Patients who received inpatient treatment between March 2020 and March 2022 and 154 patients who were hospitalized in the year before the pandemic were compared. The effect of the pandemic on the clinical profile of inpatients in the psychiatry ward was measured. For the psychiatric evaluation of the patients, Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia was used.

When the drugs used by the patients in the ward were compared, there was a difference between the groups in terms of antipsychotic use. While there was a difference in the use of risperidone and aripiprazole(p<0.05); there was no difference in the use of paliperidone, quetiapine, olanzapine, and clozapine (p>0.05). There was a difference between the groups in terms of antidepressant use. While there was a difference in fluoxetine use; there was no difference between the use of sertraline citalopram and escitalopram(p<0.05). No difference was observed between the use of other drugs, methylphenidate and atomoxetine, anxiolytic use, and the use of mood stabilizers lithium valproate lamotrigine (p>0.05). It is observed that there is an increase in the need for antidepressants and antipsychotics used in the child and adolescent psychiatry service during the Covid 19 pandemic.

These results can help inform and develop strategies and interventions related to the pandemic in children and adolescents. Future research should continue to evaluate the psychological consequences of COVID-19 on adolescents. The treatment patterns that were used seemed to change indicating the pandemic had a significant effects on these patients. However, this statement requires to be backed up by other studies to get a conclusion, especially the ones with higher numbers of subjects and longer durations of follow-ups.

In organic mental disorders in people who have undergone COVID-19, it has been established that the complex use of periciazine in combination with paroxetine, diazepam, 3-hydroxypyridine succinate and hyperbaric oxygenation is superior in effectiveness to traditional therapy with an antipsychotic drug, antidepressant and anxiolytic. The inclusion of 3-hydroxypyridine succinate, hyperbaric oxygenation in the complex therapy of this pathology corrects the concentrations of adrenaline, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin in the peripheral blood of patients, eliminates hormonal status disorders and humoral immune responses.

The aim of the work was to optimize approaches to the treatment of hypothymic disorders in organic mental illness, to substantiate the complex use of periciazine in combination with paroxetine, diazepam, 3-hydroxypyridine succinate and hyperbaric oxygenation in patients who underwent COVID-19.

The object of the clinical study were patients with organic mental disorders who underwent COVID-19. To assess the condition, laboratory research methods were selected taking into account the etio- and pathogenesis of diseases: determining the level of catecholamines, some indicators of humoral immune responses, and the hormonal profile.

Investigations into health and social care services offered to people who have died by suicide or who have committed a homicide have the potential to facilitate improvements in future practice. Such improvements are, however, dependent on the operationalizability of the recommendations of these investigations. Operationalizability in this context means the potential of the recommendations to alter the thinking/actions of practitioners involved in the areas of practice to which the recommendations relate. Critically, the proposed learning must make sense to practitioners in a multiplicity of single instance episodes of practice when the future is unknown. Although common content themes identified by investigations have been reported, no study has yet specifically examined how the framing of recommendations in investigation reports affects their operationalizability.

Primary objective: to pilot a novel approach to the thematic analysis of investigations into serious incidents which focuses on the operationalizability of recommendations for day-to-day practice. Secondary objective: to explore the operationalizability of the specific recommendations arising from a recent UK review of child homicides.

A publicly available UK national review of child homicides by parents under social care services was subjected to a two-stage thematic analysis (firstly, to identify the types of thinking/acting that were scrutinised; and secondly to characterise the ways in which these thoughts/actions were appraised). The frame of reference for the thematic analysis was that of a practitioner involved in typical instances of practice where there is uncertainty about outcomes (i.e. real-life practice).

Stage 1 - Four types of thinking/acting were identified: (i) information gathering, (ii) interpretation, (iii) judgement formation, and (iv) decision to act (figure 1).Stage 2 - The thoughts/actions were appraised according to three key themes: (a) occurrence of thoughts/actions at a pivotal moment, (b) erroneousness of thoughts/actions, and (c) thoroughness of thoughts/actions.

With regard to the specific report analysed, the recommendations were found to have differing degrees of operationalizability. For instance, examples of ‘erroneous thinking/acting’ were more readily applicable to future practice (since they can be operationalised in terms of general principles). However, the notion of ‘pivotal moments’ is less useful, since the labelling of moments as ‘pivotal’ is dependent on a knowledge of the outcome and therefore would not have been readily identified contemporaneously in these cases (or, by extension in future similar cases prior to any serious incident). This pilot demonstrates that the novel approach used is a feasible way to examine not just the content, but also the utility, of investigation recommendations.

Recently, orthognathic surgeries have gained popularity in orthodontics settings. The perception of body image is a driving force in individuals who seek orthodontic treatments. Therefore, the clinician should be suspicious of underlying psychological conditions, namely body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). Indices like the “index of complexity, outcome, and need” (ICON) in orthodontics not only objectively determine malocclusion traits but also consider the influence of subjective beauty perspectives.

This study aimed to assess if dentists can use an objective orthodontics index in order to screen for and detect BDD among their patients.

This case-control study was conducted in the Faculty of Dentistry at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran. In total, 414 women were recruited between January 2019 and April 2020. After determining the ICON index, applicants filled out a demographic questionnaire, the Beck depression inventory (BDI II), Beck anxiety inventory (BAI), and Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale Modified for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD-YBOCS).

In total, 31 (15%) cases in the orthodontics group and 21 (10.1%) subjects in the control group had a score of 20 or higher on the BDD-YBOCS (p=0.182). Moreover, there was no significant difference between groups in the mean BDD-YBOCS (p=0.184), BAI (p=0.163), and BDI-II (p=0.147). However, a statistically significant difference was found between the orthodontics patients and controls in the mean ICON index score (p<0.001). No correlation was found between the severity of ICON and BDD-YBOCS scores in all participants (p=0.804), cases (p=0.655), nor controls (p=0.403).

Objective indices such as ICON were not able to screen for BDD. Furthermore, BDD has an increased prevalence in patients seeking orthodontic treatments. Orthodontists should look for BDD features in patients during the first visit by careful history taking and can benefit from utilizing the BDD-YBOCS survey as a screening tool in patients who are suspected of having BDD while referring the individuals who have higher scores to psychiatrists for further clinical evaluations.
