To obtain the estimates of the national prevalence of ADHD and ODD of Thai children.

The study was used three-stage stratified sampling to represent most population of each level. 7,118 Thai students graded 1-5 in primary school were recruited in the study and were screened by the SNAP-IV Thai version with the sensitivity 82%. The subjects, whose scores were positive for any subtypes of ADHD or ODD, were interviewed by child and adolescent psychiatrists using DSM-IV criteria. The percentage and 95% Confidence Intervals were used to represent the results.

521 subjects and 200 subjects were diagnosed ADHD and ODD, making a national prevalence of Thai students equals 8.1% (95%CI=7.5-8.7). The prevalencein boy 12% (95%CI=10.9-13.0) was substantially higher than girl 4.2% (95%CI=3.6-4.9), the ratio was 3:1. Considering the difference in regions were found southern region was highest at 11.7% (95%CI=10.0-13.4) and northern region was lowest prevalence equals 5.1% (95%CI=4.0-6.2). The prevalence of ADHD with comorbidity of ODD was 2.1% (95%CI=0.8-2.4). Prevalence of ODD was 3.1% (95%CI=2.7-3.5), which was found highest 5.5% (95%CI=3.7-7.2) in Bangkok.

ADHD prevalence in Thailand is higher, thus an early intervention to prevent the mental health problems and loss of quality population is needed. The health services and education system require changes in attitudes and development of resources. All who care for children including families, schools, communities, health care agencies, the government, and children themselves are required to participate and develop the solution and programs in community.

These findings demonstrate a lower autonomic power in panic disorder patients and tendency to increase it during the treatment.

Depression is now the fourth most common cause of invalidity. World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that by 2020 it will be the second most common cause (WHO, 2001). Beck Depression Inventory (BDI II) is highly reliable tool for measuring the intensity of depression.

The aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Czech version of BDI II. This was done on a representative sample of working population.

Results from 1027 participants were obtained. The sample was equally distributed among males and females. T-test showed that on average women suffered from higher depressive symptoms than males. Cronbach alpha showed high items consistency of 0,92 and confirmatory factor analysis found, as predicted, 3 factors: cognitive, somatic and affective.

Cronbach alpha and factor analysis showed high internal consistency and reliability of Czech version of BDI II. Czech version of BDI II is thus not only a translation but can be considered a psychometric tool that is comparable with the original version. The results of this study are therefore comparable with other available results.

Short term benefits of Specialized Early Intervention (SEI) services for treatment of first episode of psychosis (FEP) are not sustained after transfer to regular care. Optimum length of SEI services remains to be determined.

To carry out a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of extending SEI service for an additional three years compared to “regular” care after both groups have received two years of SEI treatment.

The experimental group (extended SEI) will have better clinical (remission length and proportion) and functional outcomes and be cost effective compared to the control group (regular care).

Remission (length and proportion in remission) are the primary outcomes. We aim to randomize a total of 212 patients following two years of SEI service for their FEP. Outcome evaluations to assess symptoms, functioning and service utilization are carried out at entry and every three months. In this presentation we will report only the method and preliminary results (success of urn randomization, drop out and relapse rates) on the sample recruited thus far.

Of the 58 patients approached 50 (86%) agreed to be randomized. Patients were young (mean age 25), mostly male (with a diagnosis of Schizophrenia Spectrum Psychosis (71%). The average length of follow up to date is 13.2 months (s.d. = 5.4). Treatment discontinuation in the experimental and control conditions were 0 and 4 (15%), respectively.

The pilot results show the feasibility for carrying out such a study. The methodological challenges of conducting this long term RCT will be discussed.

Use of the Internet lately has significantly been increased worldwide. The time users spend browsing the Internet is constantly increased resulting to serious consequences incurred in personal, professional and social life.

The purpose was to explore whether the economic crisis is affecting the use and addiction to Internet, whether the economic crisis is a risk factor in the appearance of addiction to the Internet and if the occupation and the existence of extra-curricular activities act as barriers to the development of addiction to the Internet on students.

A questionnaire was prepared based on the diagnostic tool IAT (Internet Addiction Test). The survey was conducted in June of 2014 on 632 students.

It was found that 6.2% of the sample population has moderately addictive behavior and 0.5% has a serious addiction. Addiction levels to the Internet are affected by someone working while studying and his monthly income, by daily time spent by the student in activities besides school, by the time spent daily on the Internet and by the operations mostly used. Also found that the risk of developing Internet addiction is higher among students who said they had difficulty paying their bills and Internet subscription and to those who due to economic crisis would stop all their activities in order to obtain money.

The economic crisis is a factor that affects on Internet addiction and occupation and activities may act as a deterrent to the emergence of the phenomenon.

Research carried out for determining the specificities of the psycho-social profile of adolescents with tattoos.

Research carried out on 80 adolescents of the age between 16 and 25 years, both sexes…A questionnaire with demographical data was used for the research, PIE (profile index of emotions Plucik), battery of the tests CON4.

Adolescents with a greater number of tattoos (2 or more) manifest a higher aggression, low frustration tolerance and impulsiveness, social disinhibition and they are emotionally without social fears, unpleasantness and shame. Young people with one tattoo don’t have a different profile, but a need of satisfying fashion trends and solving their developing uncertainties and depressiveness.

Young people with tattoos have a specific psycho-social profile, and a great number of tattoos is a screening for indicating behavioral disorders.

There are seldom mental health studies in Portugal about immigrant populations, particularly in groups belonging to non-Portuguese speaking minorities. The recent phenomenon of emergence of new migratory flows coming from Eastern Europe countries, which traditionally had no cultural or linguistic contact with the host country and the implications of this migratory process in the mental health status of this population, is the centre of this investigation.

This study aims to perform a socio-demographic characterization, identify the main health problems and health surveillance patterns of the immigrant population from Eastern Europe countries in Portugal. It also aims to assess the stress vulnerability and ths mental health status of this population.

The study was conducted in immigrant local centres from January 31st 2005 to March 31st 2006 and focused on 566 Eastern Europe immigrants residing in several regions of Portugal, 296 males and 270 females. We used the 23 QVS (Vaz Serra, 2000); GHQ-28 (Goldberg & Hillier, 1979); SSQ6 (Saranson, Saranson & Pierce, 1987) and a Socio-demographic questionnaire.

From the 566 individuals in sample one; we conclude that this population is predominantly male, in active young age, with high academic qualifications.

Regarding mental health status, 10,4% of the inquired immigrants presented psychiatric pathology assessed by the cutting point of GHQ-28 and 54.9% presented stress vulnerability determined by the cutting point of 23QVS. We verified a statistically relevant correlation between stress vulnerability and the levels of mental health of the surveyed population.

Exhaustive literature is available in the portrayal of mental illness in the English language films. However no major studies are available around the portrayal of mental health in Bollywood movies which in fact is consumed by nearly 25-30% of the world population.

in the era of unprecedented growth in visual medium, we wish to study the portrayal of mental illness in Bollywood cinema and how effective this medium is to create awareness around mental health and stigma.

Literature search with a specific purpose to identify any available literature on mental illness in South Asian cinema was undertaken. to create a synthesis of portrayal of mental illness, its impact on cultural consumption with its advantages and deficiencies. This was followed by a listing a cluster reviews of Bollywood films that have characters with mental health problems to identify how these illustrate both the condition and reactions to them.

These findings were compared with the literature surrounding mental health and the Indian culture to show if the perceptions correlate. The information was collated to see any patterns and 6 such patterns were identified.

Results

Recognising these motifs are crucial for public and clinician alike in contact with the population open to the influence of these films to not only understand the phenomenology of mental illness in this populace but also some of unique cultural factors, medication, stigma and charting out appropriate management plan. (On-going)

For decades, the fundamental ability known as intelligence, has been interpreted as a unitary concept: g. The distinction between crystallized intelligence (Gc) and fluid intelligence (Gf), introduced by Horn and Catell in 1966, is corroborated by recent neuropsychological research. Since Gf is sensitive to frontal lobe lesions, studies have focussed on its relation with executive functioning (EF). The most widely used intellegence test (WAIS), measures predominantly Gc, even with its subtasks for performal intelligence.

The study of the relation between Gf and EF with the Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test (KAIT), a test specifially designed for the measurement of the Gf-Gc distinction.

While WAIS-research on the Gf-EF association may lead to unreliable conclusions, both KAIT and selected CANTAB tasks were used to re-investigated this relationship.

The relation between Gf, Gc and EF was studied in a latent variable analysis using both a group of patients with an array of psychiatric diagnoses and a group of healthy controls, comprising a total of 66 subjects. For EF, the model of Miyake was used by differentiating EF in the three subprocesses: updating, shifting and inhibition.

A high correlation between Gf and EF was found, indicating significant but incomplete overlap between the Gf and EF constructs.

KAIT constructs adequatly reflect Gf, Gc and the three executive processes as defined by Miyake. Deviant scores on KAIT-Gf, however, do not fully capture the actual executive funtioning of patients. In such cases, detailed examination of EF is warranted.

The Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Checklist (PCL) is a 17-item self-report measure of the 17 DSM-IV symptoms of PTSD. The PCL has a variety of purposes, including screening individuals for PTSD, diagnosing PTSD, monitoring symptom change during and after treatment. There are three versions of the PCL: PCL-C (civilian), PCL-M (military) and PCL-S (specific). PCL-M asks about symptoms in response to “stressful military experiences” and used for active service members and veterans. The PCL-M can be completed by participants of a research study in approximately 5–10 minutes. Interpretation of the PCL-M should be completed by a clinician. There is no valid PCL-M Latvian language version.

The goal of the study is to assess the evaluative and discriminative properties of the Latvian language version of the PCL-M in PTSD risk group patients (PTSD-RGP).

Totally 30 participants (males, Europeans, of average age 26.2, PTSD-RGP - Latvian Contingent of International Operations) were examined. Standart validation protocol was applied for PCL-M Latvian language version's reliability and validity testing: reliability consequence, construct validity, test-retest, Cronbach alpha criterion.

Cronbach alpha criterion was more than 0,70 (means reliable response sets), the reliability-consequence scale is from 0.6 to 0.9 (means precise definition). Test-retest by Spearman showed r ≥ 0.75 (means reliable stability).

It was concluded that the PLC-M Latvian language version has sufficiently acceptable evaluative and discriminatory properties and is therefore a valid instrument for PTSD measurements in clinical and research studies in Latvian military active service members and veterans.
