A twisted group algebra kσP on a free Abelian group P with finite rank and a Poisson structure on kP are studied. As an application, the primitive spectrum of , the coordinate ring of quantum Euclidean space, is described and a Poisson algebra A is constructed so that there is a bijection between the primitive spectrum of and the symplectic spectrum of R.

It is proved that the free topological vector space $\mathbb{V}([0,1])$ contains an isomorphic copy of the free topological vector space $\mathbb{V}([0,1]^{n})$ for every finite-dimensional cube $[0,1]^{n}$, thereby answering an open question in the literature. We show that this result cannot be extended from the closed unit interval $[0,1]$ to general metrisable spaces. Indeed, we prove that the free topological vector space $\mathbb{V}(X)$ does not even have a vector subspace isomorphic as a topological vector space to $\mathbb{V}(X\oplus X)$, where $X$ is a Cook continuum, which is a one-dimensional compact metric space. This is also shown to be the case for a rigid Bernstein set, which is a zero-dimensional subspace of the real line.

We assume that there exists an asymptotically stable stationary solution of a Galerkin approximation for the reaction-diffusion system. It is shown that there exists a nearby stationary solution of the full reaction-diffusion system provided the order of the Galerkin approximation is high enough. The Lyapunov second method is used to prove the asymptotic stability of the stationary solution.

Let (n, σ, d) denote the variety of all groups defined by the left-normed commutator identity [x1, …, xn] = [x1σ, …, xnσ]d, where σ is a non-identity permutation of {1, …, n}, and d is an integer, possibly negative. It is shown that (n, σ, d) is nilpotent-by-nilpotent if σ ≠ (1, 2), abelian by nilpotent if n > 2, nσ ≠ n, and nilpotent of class at most n + 1 if {1, 2} ≠ {1σ, 2σ}. This improves on a result of E.B. Kikodze that (n, σ, 1) is locally soluble and if {1, 2} ≠ {1σ, 2σ} is locally nilpotent.

A subset R of the vertex set of a graph $\Gamma $ is said to be $(\kappa ,\tau )$-regular if R induces a $\kappa $-regular subgraph and every vertex outside R is adjacent to exactly $\tau $ vertices in R. In particular, if R is a $(\kappa ,\tau )$-regular set of some Cayley graph on a finite group G, then R is called a $(\kappa ,\tau )$-regular set of G. Let H be a nontrivial normal subgroup of G, and $\kappa $ and $\tau $ a pair of integers satisfying $0\leq \kappa \leq |H|-1$, $1\leq \tau \leq |H|$ and $\gcd (2,|H|-1)\mid \kappa $. It is proved that (i) if $\tau $ is even, then H is a $(\kappa ,\tau )$-regular set of G; (ii) if $\tau $ is odd, then H is a $(\kappa ,\tau )$-regular set of G if and only if it is a $(0,1)$-regular set of G.

Aigner showed in 1934 that nontrivial quadratic solutions to $x^4 + y^4 = 1$ exist only in $\mathbb Q(\sqrt {-7})$ . Following a method of Mordell, we show that nontrivial quadratic solutions to $x^4 + 2^ny^4 = 1$ arise from integer solutions to the equations $X^4 \pm 2^nY^4 = Z^2$ investigated in 1853 by V. A. Lebesgue.

It is shown that rings in which the projective cover and injective hull of cyclic modules are isomorphic are equivalent to uniserial rings. Further, it is shown that rings for which the top and bottom of finitely generated modules are isomorphic also are equivalent to uniserial rings.

The homomorphic image of a congruence is always a tolerance (relation) but, within a given variety, a tolerance is not necessarily obtained this way. By a Maltsev-like condition, we characterise varieties whose tolerances are homomorphic images of their congruences (TImC). As corollaries, we prove that the variety of semilattices, all varieties of lattices, and all varieties of unary algebras have TImC. We show that a congruence n-permutable variety has TImC if and only if it is congruence permutable, and construct an idempotent variety with a majority term that fails TImC.

In this note, we will prove that a finite-dimensional Lie algebra L over a field of characteristic zero, admitting an abelian algebra of derivations D≤Der(L), with the property for some n>1, is necessarily solvable. As a result, we show that if L has a derivation d:L→L such that Ln⊆d(L), for some n>1, then L is solvable.

We prove that if X and Y are two (real) Banach spaces such that dim X ≥ 2 and dim Y ≥ 2, then the space K(X, Y) contains a convex compact subset C with dim C ≥ 2 (in the affine sense) which fails to be an intersection of balls. This improves two results of Ruess and Stegall.

It is shown that Schauder decompositions exist in non-separable weakly compactly generated spaces and in certain non-separable conjugate spaces. Some results are obtained concerning shrinking and boundedly complete Schauder decompositions in non-separable spaces.

Polynomial near-rings in k-commuting indeterminates are our object of study. We illustrate out work for k = 2, that is, N[x, y] as an extension to N[x], while the case for arbitrarily k follows easily. Our approach is different from the recursive definition N[x][y]. However, it can be shown that N[x, y] is isomorphic to N[x][y]. Several important tools such as the degree, the least degree, et cetera are defined with respect to N[x, y]. We also clarify some notations involved in defining polynomial near-rings.

If a finite group G has a ‘central’ involution t whose centralizer in G is (t) × H then, under certain conditions on H, G cannot be simple.

We prove, in normed linear spaces, the existence of extensions of continuous linear functionals from linear subspaces to the whole space, with arbitrarily prescribed larger norm. Also, we prove that under an additional boundedness assumption, in the known separation theorems for convex sets, there exist hyperplanes which separate and support both sets.

The weak global dimension of a right coherent ring with left Krull dimension α ≥ 1 is found to be the supremum of the weak dimensions of the β-critical cyclic modules, where β < α. If, in addition, the mapping I → assl gives a bijection between isomorphism classes on injective left R-modules and prime ideals of R, then the weak global dimension of R is the supremum of the weak dimensions of the simple left R-modules. These results are used to compute the left homological dimension of a right coherent, left noetherian ring. Some analogues of our results are also given for rings with Gabriel dimension.

Let G be a graph. Assume that to each vertex of a set of vertices $S\subseteq V(G)$ a robot is assigned. At each stage one robot can move to a neighbouring vertex. Then S is a mobile general position set of G if there exists a sequence of moves of the robots such that all the vertices of G are visited while maintaining the general position property at all times. The mobile general position number of G is the cardinality of a largest mobile general position set of G. We give bounds on the mobile general position number and determine exact values for certain common classes of graphs, including block graphs, rooted products, unicyclic graphs, Kneser graphs $K(n,2)$ and line graphs of complete graphs.
