In this article, a coupled line diplexer (operating at 2.4 GHz and 3.5 GHz) which can be used as single-band filter with tunable attenuation characteristics in the pass band has been designed. Multilayer graphene (MLG) pads are used to achieve tunable features in this circuit. The graphene pads are placed at each branch of the diplexer. Single-band tunable attenuation characteristics are achieved by applying bias to graphene pads placed at optimum locations on the filter. The proposed tunable coupled line attenuating diplexer is realized on FR-4 glass epoxy substrate of thickness 1.58 mm with a total size of 45 × 75 mm2. By varying the bias voltage (0 V –6 V) of MLG pads the resistance of graphene pad placed in the circuit gets decreases thereby attenuating/controlling the transmission power to the other port in the required band. In lower pass band (2.28–2.55 GHz) the signal is attenuated from 3 to 10.8 dB and in higher pass band (3.2–3.58 GHz) signal is attenuated from 5 to 13 dB. Simulations of the structure with and without graphene pads have been carried out and are in good agreement with measured results.

This paper presents a new topology for a microwave active mixer using compact microstrip diplexer constituted from two dual-mode open loop resonators. The resonators are tuned to the radio frequency (RF) and local-oscillator (LO) frequencies, respectively, to effectively isolate the two input signals, while the diplexer output port is connected to the gate circuit of a commercial low cost GaAs pHEMT transistor. The drain circuit of the active device is connected to the load via an intermediate-frequency (IF)-modified Chebyshev low-pass filter to remove the unwanted RF and LO signals and reduce other spurious frequencies at the output of the mixer circuit. The circuit has been designed and constructed for an RF of 850 MHz, LO frequency of 1050 MHz, and an IF of 200 MHz. Experimental measurements show that the circuit provides a conversion gain of 18 dB at LO drive power of +2 dBm. It also operates satisfactorily over the RF range from 800 to 900 MHz with good image frequency rejection and stable operation.

The design and first experimental results of Tx and Rx L-band bandpass filters for a high-power satellite diplexer are presented in this paper. Designed in the framework of an ESA ARTES AT project, the filters are based on TM010 mode dielectric resonators. These resonators allow for better results in terms of volume occupation with respect to other dielectric resonators still maintaining high Q-factor values (>2000). Volume saving above 30% is achieved with respect to standard coaxial filters. The filter geometries and materials have been chosen in order to improve the power-handling and to cope with related critical issues for space applications (i.e. avoid any multipactor discharge in the operating RF power range and low-PIM response). Measurements of Tx filter show good correlation with the design in terms of central frequency, BW, and unloaded Q-factor (almost 3000). Measurements of Rx filter show a worse correlation with the design in terms of filter response shape. This is ascribed to size tolerances of one of the filter resonators. Multiple analyses are ongoing to remove this degradation in the final engineering model.

A separately-designable diplexer with multiple transmission zeroes (TZs) using common stub-loaded stepped impedance resonator (SIR) is proposed. The common stub-loaded SIR operating in third harmonic (f3) and fifth harmonic (f5) is used for designing the two diplexer channels. The stub is loaded at the voltage-null point of f3 of the SIR. It can separately control f5 but has no effect on f3 so that the two channels can be separately designed. Meanwhile, the input port is tap-connected to the common stub-loaded SIR, which necessarily produces a TZ between f3 and f5, existing in both channel filtering responses. By properly choosing coupling schemes of the two channels, more TZs are realized at the desired locations. Thanks to the generation of the multiple TZs, both passband selectivity and isolation between the two channels are improved significantly. For demonstration, a diplexer operating at 2.22 and 2.95 GHz is designed, fabricated, and measured. The simulated and measured results are presented, showing good agreement.

A high-isolation diplexer based on a dual-mode substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonator is proposed in this paper. Based on the theory of the dual-mode resonator, the miniaturized diplexers are designed by using the SIW dual-mode resonators. The superior isolation of the diplexers is obtained because the two operating modes of the dual-mode SIW resonators are not directly coupled and there is no interference with each other. In order to further improve the isolation of the circuit, the number of the order of the diplexer is added. Equivalent circuits are given to analyze and design the dual-mode high-isolation diplexers. Detailed analyses are given according to the equivalent circuits. The dual-mode third-order and fourth-order diplexers are designed and fabricated. The measured results agree well with the simulated ones. The total sizes of the fabricated third-order and fourth-order diplexers are 1.78λg × 2.64λg and 1.79λg × 3.63λg, respectively.

In this paper, design and development of a via-free composite right/left handed transmission line (CRLH TL)-based diplexer for WiMAX and WLAN bands is reported. The diplexer is having two channels, where each channel consists of a separate bandpass filter (BPF). The BPF of both channels are designed on via-free CRLH TLs based on a newly proposed right-angled corner-modified split ring resonator (RAC-MSRR) structure. The RAC-MSRR incorporates meander paths because of which working scope of frequencies is focused for measured center frequencies (f1) 3.5 GHz with −3 dB fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 21.21% (BPF1 channel) and (f2) 5.6 GHz with −3 dB FBW of 13.29% (BPF2 channel). For diplexer design, T-section is used for joining two BPFs which results in very good isolation of more than 32.5 dB over the frequency band of 2.5–8.0 GHz. The designed diplexer has passband insertion loss of −0.87 dB at f1 and −1.25 dB at f2. Overall size of the fabricated diplexer including 50 Ω feed line is 18 × 15 mm2. Equivalent lumped circuit model parameters of the diplexer are obtained from the pseudo-inverse matrix technique. Measured results show good concurrence with simulated results and subsequently approve the proposed model design.

In this paper, a microstrip diplexer is designed based on a novel structure consisting of the meandrous and patch cells. It operates at 0.8 and 0.9 GHz for global system for mobile communications applications. The proposed diplexer is well miniaturized with an overall size of 0.01 λg2. It has the narrowband channels making it appropriate for the modern long-range communication systems, which are widely accepted by the industry. The introduced diplexer has the other advantages of low insertion and return losses and the good isolation between channels better than −30 dB. Moreover, there is a good upper stopband rejection so that the first and second harmonics are suppressed with a maximum level of −30 dB. The designing method is based on finding the effective parameters to control the resonance frequency, miniaturization and harmonic attenuation simultaneously. To validate the designing method and simulation results, the proposed diplexer is fabricated and measured. There is a good agreement between the simulated and measured results.

In this paper, a microstrip diplexer composed of two similar resonators is designed. The proposed resonator is consisting of four microstrip cells, which are connected to a coupled lines structure. In order to select a suitable geometric structure, first, all cells are assumed as undefined structures where there is a lack of basic information about their geometry and dimensions. Then, an equivalent LC circuit of the coupled lines is introduced and analyzed to estimate the general structure of the resonator respect to a requested resonance frequency. The proposed diplexer is designed to operate at 2.36 and 4 GHz for wireless applications. The insertion losses (S21 and S31) are decreased significantly at the resonance frequencies, so that they are 0.2 and 0.4 dB at 2.36 and 4 GHz, respectively. The designed diplexer is fabricated and measured and the measurement results are in a good agreement with the simulations.

With the rapid development of high power microwave (HPM) technologies, HPM devices with several output frequencies are becoming more and more attractive. Diplexer is a microwave device with two output frequencies, here, an L/X band diplexer with novel structure is tried to be employed in the HPM system. In order to obtain the same radiation direction for the L and X band microwaves in the diplexer, the reflection of L band microwaves and transmission of X band microwaves are realized by an array of irises. To obtain the required performance, the width and thickness of the irises and the distance between them should be well chosen. The diplexer is investigated through theoretical analysis and numerical computation, and the final design described in this work, is the result of an overall optimization process. In simulation, both the reflectivities of L-band microwaves and the transmissivities of X band microwaves reach 99.5%, and the power handling capacity of the diplexer is higher than 5.6 gigawatt (GW). Then, the L/X band diplexer is designed and fabricated according to the optimized results. After that, a series of experiments are carried out to test the diplexer. The cold test results show that the reflectivities of L band microwaves are as high as 97.5%, and the transmissivities of X band microwaves are up to 98.8%, and the acquired radiation patterns show that the designed diplexer is suitable for the diplexing of L/X band microwaves, in a word, the cold test results of the diplexer are in good agreement with the simulational results. In the end, the diplexer is tested with GW class HPMs. The radiated HPMs have little change in the pulse duration and magnitude with the diplexer applied, that is to say, there is no microwave breakdown during the HPM reflection and transmission.
