Urban History is the leading journal for urban historical scholarship across the globe, covering urban history from antiquity to the present and has been shaping the discipline since it was established as the Urban History Yearbook in 1972. We publish innovative historical research on the urban experience as well as interdisciplinary analysis of the urban past. We seek to promote new methodological approaches to the study of the urban past and encourage submissions using multi-media content. Our international advisory board comprises key figures in urban historical scholarship. We have an excellent track record in publishing the work of early career researchers. Each year we award the prestigious Dyos Prize for the best submission to the journal in the previous calendar year. As well as publishing cutting edge research, the journal provides a range of essential resources for urban historians including book reviews, reviews of periodicals, thematic thesis reviews of the latest doctoral research and an annual bibliography of the latest scholarship in urban history.
All research articles in Urban History are now published Gold Open Access, an important way to make research findings freely available for anyone to access and view. Open access serves authors and the wider community by publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed OA content. For more information about publishing Gold OA in this journal, see our open access options.
