The title compound 1-N-(3-pyridylmethyl)aminonaphthalene hydrochloride (C16H15N2Cl) was obtained by a reaction of α-naphthylamine (1) and N-pyridincarboxaldehyde (2) in anhydrous ethanol in the first step. The formed imine (3) was reduced with sodium borohydride in anhydrous methanol to give the product 1-N-(3-pyridylmethyl)aminonaphthalene (4). Finally, the hydrochloride was prepared by addition of a hydrochloric acid–ethyl acetate solution (ratio 1:3) with constant stirring and maintaining the temperature between 0 and 5 °C, obtaining a yellow polycrystalline solid corresponding to the respective derivative (5). The X-ray powder diffraction pattern for the new compound (5) was obtained. The compound (5) crystallizes in a monoclinic system with the space group P21/m (No. 11) and refined unit-cell parameters: a = 16.257 (8) Å, b = 9.236 (7) Å, c = 13.221 (6) Å, β = 94.87° (5), Z = 6, and V = 1978 (1) Å3.

Rapid, on-line measurement of feedstock mineralogy is a highly attractive technology for the mineral processing industry. A Monte Carlo particle transport-based modelling technique has been developed to help design and predict the measurement performance of on-line energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDXRD) analysers. The accuracy of the technique was evaluated by performing quantitative phase analysis on a suite of fifteen synthetic potash ore samples. The diffraction profile of each sample was measured with a laboratory EDXRD analyser and an equivalent profile was simulated in the Monte Carlo package. Linear regression analysis was used to determine the mineral abundances in each sample from both the measured and modelled profiles. Comparison of the results showed that the diffraction profiles and measurement accuracies obtained by simulation agree very well with the measured data.

Experimental X-ray powder diffraction data, unit-cell parameters, and space group for [C6Trop]+[PF6]−, C14H27NOPF6, are reported [a = 16.1879(6) Å, b = 11.4271(2) Å, c = 10.3966(5) Å, α = 66.4949(3)°, β = 94.5589(0)°, γ = 93.3092(4)°, unit-cell volume V = 1923.17 Å3, Z = 1, and space group P1]. No detectable impurities were observed.

X-ray powder diffraction data, unit-cell parameters, and space group for loratadine (C22H23ClN2O2) are reported [a = 28.302(18) Å, b = 4.996(3) Å, c = 29.154(19) Å, β = 109.158(2)°, unit-cell volume V = 3894.25 Å3, Z = 8, and space group C2/c]. All measured lines were indexed and are consistent with the C2/c space group. No detectable impurities were observed.

X-ray powder diffraction data, unit-cell parameters, and space group for meloxicam, C14H13N3O4S2, are reported [a = 6.997(2) Å, b = 8.113(2) Å, c = 13.604(4) Å, α = 85.774(2)°, β = 88.311(1)°, γ = 74.994(1)°, unit-cell volume V = 743.821 Å3, Z = 2, and space group P-1]. All measured lines were indexed, and no detectable impurity was observed.
