To support the Editor-in-Chief, the Journal of Biosocial Science is seeking Associate Editors who would like the opportunity to be directly involved in the peer review and publishing processes for the journal.
The role of an Associate Editor as a subject expert is to assist the Editor-in-Chief by handling peer review in a timely manner for a subset of submissions assigned by the Editor-in-Chief. Responsibilities include inviting reviewers, considering returned reports, and making a decision recommendation to the Editor, with operational support from the Cambridge peer review administrator and wider editorial team.
Associate Editors are closely and actively involved in the review of manuscripts submitted to the journal, and applicants should be sure that they have the capacity to manage the submissions assigned to them by the Editor-in-Chief actively and responsively. While submission numbers are naturally variable, Associate Editors might expect to handle around 5 to 8 submissions per month. Full guides and instruction will also be provided into the use of the journal’s ScholarOne peer review system.
Associate Editors are also a key part of the journal’s editorial board, and as such also act as advocates for publishing high-quality work in JBS, and participating in editorial board meetings to discuss the development of the journal and its focus with the Editor and wider editorial team.
Applicants should have a strong academic record in the field, and ideally experience of publishing in journals, the peer-review process, and use of peer-review systems. The journal is especially seeking applicants with expertise in the following areas of biosocial science:
- Bioethics
- Biological Anthropology
- Demography
- Development Geography
