Studies about Game Transfer Phenomena (GTP) have demonstrated lingering effects of playing video games manifesting as sensory, cognitive, and motoric intrusions (e.g., seeing images or hearing voices from the game after playing), transient changes in perception and self-agency. GTP are common among non-clinical players, though those with mental disorders are more susceptible. Gamers tend to appraise GTP as pleasant. Distress has been reported when GTP are experienced frequently and with specific content.

To show the interplay between GTP and patients’ symptomatology and the benefits of using the GTP framework in clinical contexts.

GTP were assessed via clinical interviews and with a validated GTP scale (three cases, males, 10-16 years old, playing time 6-10 h/day).

The cases were characterised by i) incorporation of videogame content into hallucinations and delusions, ii) identification with a videogame character and subsequent distress provoked by hearing the character’s voice and iii) self-induced GTP as self-soothing behaviour when reducing playing time. Main GTP manifestations were in the auditory modality as sounds or voices. The primary clinical diagnoses were gaming disorder, depressive disorder, and psychosis.

On one hand, GTP can be pleasurable and a way to cope with withdrawal symptoms from gaming disorder, though it can lead to compulsive behaviours and dissociation. On the other hand, GTP can be interpreted negatively and fulfil delusions that provoke distress and compromise mental stability. The cases reveal that the GTP framework can be an effective psycho-pedagogic method and support differential diagnosis.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting diverse racial/ethnic groups throughout the world. It has a major impact on the patient’s quality of life, influencing career, social activities, family relationships, and all other aspects of life

To evalue the quality of life in patients with psoriasis

Participants were outpatients of Hedi chaker University Hospital Center in sfax, Tunisia, recruited between January and July of 2017, diagnosed with psoriasis. A Demographic questionnaire and the Quality of life Questionnaire (SF-36) were administered in this study.

44 patients were included in this study. They had with a mean age of 45.8 ±12.1. The majority of patients were married (70.5%), unemployed (40.5%), without medical heredity (84,6%). Psoriasis was in plaque (65.9%), guttate (20.5%) and pustular(13.6.5%). Its severity assessed by BSA, was mild to moderate in 72.7% of cases and associated arthropathy was noted in 29.5% of patients. The overall average SF-36 scale scores for all patients ranged from 4 to 98 with an average of 55.97. The quality of life of patients was impaired in 45.5% of casesQuality of life was significantly more impaired in patients with associated arthropathy (p=0.004). There is no significant differences for the different dimensions of quality of life regarding the clinical form of psoriasis.

Psoriasis certainly has an impact on patients’ quality of life.So, dermatologists should give special attention to this subgroup of persons in order to prevent future psychopathology.

The epidemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2, which began in Wuhan city in December 2019, quickly spread to various countries around the world. On march Italy had already become the second country after China in terms of number of infections and deaths and Emilia Romagna was the second region in Italy by number of cases after Lombardy. On 11th of March 2020 through the “Stay at home” decree, the entire nation was sheltered-in-place (SIP).

Main objective is to understand immediate psychological effects on sheltered in place persons living in Emilia Romagna.

This study is based on a cross-sectional online survey conducted anonymously in the period between the tenth and seventeenth day of SIP. We used Zung Anxiety Self-Assessment Scale, Insomnia Severity Index and Perceived Stress Scale 4. SPSS 21.0 was used for data analysis.

We collected data on 651 individuals. About 38% of the sample reported having sleep problems; 31% of the population has a minimal-moderate level of anxiety while 4% marked-severe; finally, 54% of the interviewees perceive a moderate level of stress while 31% high. The MANOVAs showed that anxiety is influenced by gender, age, level of education and occupational status. Greater levels of stress are shown by individuals who declared the fear of contracting the virus and the concern of financial loss.

Our results could be used as a “psychological baseline” meanwhile the outbreak of COVID-19 is still ongoing. Despite the few days of SIP, we found the presence of a significant incidence and pervasive prevalence of psychological distress.

Patients with bipolar disorder (BD) frequently experience residual symptoms, problems in psychosocial functioning, cognitive impairment, and poor quality of life (QOL).

* To evaluate the QOL of euthymic patients with BD compared to healthy controls (HC). * To identify factors associated with its deterioration.

This is a comparative and analytical study, conducted over 3 months, involving 30 euthymic patients with BD, followed up in the outpatient psychiatry department of Hedi Chaker University Hospital in Sfax (Tunisia). They were compared to 34 HC. General, clinical and therapeutic data were collected using a pre-established questionnaire. QOL was assessed with the «36 item Short-Form Health Survey» (SF-36).

The mean ages of BD patients and HC were 44.17 years and 40.1 years, respectively. Compared with HC, patients with BD had decreased overall SF-36 scores (53.73 vs 73.78; p=0.000) and decreased physical and psychological subdomain scores (p=0.001; p=0.000). The study of the relationship between the dimensional average scores and different variables revealed correlations between; physical health problems and somatic disease (p=0.021) and unemployment (p=0.001), impaired general health and somatic disease (p=0.02) and psychotropic association (p=0.021), emotional health problems and psychiatric family history (p=0.023), pain and psychotropic association (p=0.031), and impaired global QOL and psychiatric family history (p=0.05).

Our results confirm the impairment of the QOL of patients with BD even in euthymic periods. Many factors have been associated, including demographic and clinical variables. The improvement of QOL is to consider these factors in the management of these patients.

Contextualization: health professionals’ anguish towards the patient with head and neck cancer (HNC) permeates clinical issues: the location of the tumour, if advanced diagnosis, the psychosocial features of the patient. The perception, coming from patients as undesirable, refers to the conflict of how to deal with one’s own anguishes.

AIM: To explore and interpret how anguish experienced by physicians and nurses are mobilized regarding to the clinical and psychosocial peculiarities of patients with HNC.

Strategies: Clinical-qualitative design; semi-directed interview with open-ended questions in depth. Trigger question: “Tell me about the management of the patient with …”. Ten interviewees (06 nurses and 04 resident doctors) from a university oncology outpatient. Intentional sample. Clinical-Qualitative Content Analysis with psychodynamic concepts. Findings validated by peers at the Laboratory of Clinical-Qualitative Research at the University of Campinas, Brazil.

Topics: the treatment of the speeches resulted in three emerging categories: (1) Cancer is literally on the face: self-perception of peculiarities; (2) An appalling illness: dealing with the ‘deteriorated’; (3) To naturalize without trivializing: handling with their own anguish.

Final considerations: The anguish of health professionals who deals with the HNC patient consists of the feelings, which are not exposed, because they are not organized and neither understood as natural feelings. It is up to them to seek neutrality to minimize the anguish present in the conflict of not manifesting thoughts considered inadequate by the patient, avoiding moral judgments and conflicts. Balint groups are recommended to attend emotional demands of health professionals.

Studies in adults with bipolar disorder (BD), shows that in 25% of cases first affective episode occurs under the age of 13 and in 63-69% under the age of 19. The most difficult problem is the early identification of BD, which starts in adolescence as a result of polymorphism of clinical symptoms, their syndromic incompleteness.

Study of the structure of adolescents affective disorders on primary appointment in outpatient psychiatric unit.

Content analysis, sampling method, statistical method. 120 disease histories of adolescents who first applied for outpatient psychiatric unit in 2019 were used. 93 (77.5%) of them were girls and 27 (22.5%) of them were boys. The average age was 17 years.

In the structure of initial diagnoses, according to ICD-10, mood disorders [F30-F39] - 56.0% prevailed. [F40-F49] - 25%, [F00-F09] - 6.6%, [F20-F29] - 6.6%, [F50-F59] – 4,2%, [F90-F99] – 1,6% were less likely. Structure of complaints of adolescents and their parents on primary appointment for specialized psychiatric care is shown in Table 1 (p<0,05).

Initial signs of emotional disorders in adolescence are polymorphic, nosologically nonspecific, and can lead to diagnoses that are not limited only by the affective pathology. The most common symptoms (irritability, anxiety, mood falls) can act as transdiagnostic phenomena that must be taken into consideration both in the diagnostic study and in further clinical and dynamic follow-ups and treatment.

In our study, we aimed to understand how an individual perceives everyday life, as well as, which role the features of metacognitions and personality play in this process. Everyone is immersed in society and therefore exposed to external influences. Attention has already been focused on the relationship between metacognition and social context. “Internal orientation” depends largely on our personal and family history, socio-economic situation, group membership, and cultural context.

The sample consisted of 30 participants (women and men, M=25,7, Sd=3,6), selected by the criterion of personal interest in this research.

The study consisted of several stages. The first stage was devoted to the theoretical analysis of everyday life in modern psychology. The data were processed using descriptive qualitative analysis using the phenomenological method, where we identified categories (Central topics) among the participants ‘ responses. To study the features of metacognition, we selected methods for assessing metacognitive involvement in awareness of internal activity, as well as metacognitive beliefs. The metacognitive awareness inventory questionnaire (MAIL) (Schraw & Dennison, 1994) in adaptation (Karpov & Skiteva, 2005) allows you to assess the level of metacognitive engagement, answer the question about the level of metacognitive awareness of the participant.

Pearson correlation is revealed a significant relationship between MAI and cognitive self-consciousness (p=0.003), positive beliefs (p=0.002), and needs of controling the thoughts (p=0.076).

Our research opens the study of the subjective dimensions of person-situation-activity and offers a way of linking research on personality with research on the social processes whereby persons conduct their everyday lives.

The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 has enormously impacted healthcare systems around the world. Both patients and health care professionals have been subjected to a novel stressor which affects their everyday life and functioning. This issue is especially important to patients suffering from chronic diseases which had already been exposed to a psychological strain related to their primary diagnosis. As chronically ill patients are depending on the availability of a specific treatment i.e. in need of specific healthcare facilities and have more reasons to worry about their future and hence be more prone to suffer adverse psychological consequences than the general population.

In this study we aimed to examine whether the psychological results of the pandemic affect chronically ill and whether the specific illness and other demographic factors account for any changes in perceived stress levels.

An online questionnaire has been distributed to 4 groups (n=369): 92 psoriasis patients, 73 dialysis patients, 100 patients after kidney transplantation and 104 multiple sclerosis patients. The study was conducted during the pandemic in Poland (June-July 2020). Perceived stress levels were measured by the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS).

The preliminary results suggest elevated perceived stress levels among the studied groups. As the data are currently under statistical evaluation specific statistical conclusions are to be expected in November 2020.

As the described study was conducted during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in Poland, it stands to reason that the epidemiological situation affected the levels of perceived stress among chronically ill patients.

Epilepsy and its psychiatric comorbidities have been studied frequently over the course of the last years. However, few studies have aimed to establish the relationship between psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) and personality disorders.

The aim of the current study is to discuss the relationship between different personality disorders and PNES in comparison to patients diagnosed of epilepsy but no PNES.

A case of a 48 year old female patient who attends an intensive following unit at a psychiatric day hospital is presented. The patient was diagnosed with epilepsy at 25 years old. In the last 10 years she has grown completely dependent on her family, presenting at least one epileptic seizure or PNES during the day. She attends the psychiatric unit after neurologists diagnose highly frequent PNES with interference in her day to day routine. During her follow-up at the psychiatric unit different personality disorders are considered. Furthermore, PubMed, Web of Science and PsycInfo databases were searched, using a pre-established strategy in order to identify recent related studies. Afterwards, studies were selected in a systematized manner.

According to different studies up to 75% of patients with PNES have a comorbid personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder seems to be the most frequently simultaneous axis II diagnosis.

Europe’s drug situation is facing an increasing trend.

To compare the psychoactive substance use pattern in Romania and Hungary.

Data was collected from the electronical databases of the 3rd Psychiatry Clinic of Cluj County Emergency Hospital, Cluj-Napoca, Romania and from the Psychiatry Department of Kenezy Gyula Hospital Debrecen, Hungary. We included adult patients who had at least one hospital admission for mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use between 01/01/2013 and 31/12/2016.

96 patients from Romania (80.2% males, mean age 27.8 years (18, 82)) and 816 from Hungary (71.93% males, mean age 47 years (18, 90)) were included. Romanian patients consumed more opioids (31.52% vs 4.34%, p<0.05 Chi-square Test), cannabinoids (66.3% Ro vs 13.04%, p<0.001 Chi-square Test), and synthetic drugs (declared 73.91% vs 8.21%, p<0.001 Chi-square Test), an underlying personality disorder (52.08% vs 34.06% p=0.001 Chi-square test) was more often diagnosed. Hungarian patients consumed more alcohol (89.46% vs 30.43%, p<0.001 Chi-square Test), a comorbid bipolar disorder (18.75% vs 5.2%, p=0.001 Chi-square Test), a major depressive disorder (40.8% vs 16.6% p<0.001, Chi-square Test) or an anxiety spectrum disorder (55.26% vs 7.29%, p<0.001 Chi-square test) were more often diagnosed. Overall, more than 85% had a dependence use pattern, more than 65% having multiple admissions.

Romanian drug users are younger, prefer opioids, cannabinoids and synthetic drugs and have more often a comorbid personality disorder than Hungarian patients, who consume more alcohol and have a comorbid affective disorder.

According to a selective meta-analytical review, weakness of working memory is considered as one of the fundamental disorders in schizophrenia. Some researchers propose identifying this disorder as an endophenotypic marker of schizophrenia diathesis. Many researchers also emphasize violations of “abstract thinking”, that is, the ability of patients to operate with abstract concepts. Many scientists understand the violation of “abstract thinking” as the difficulty of patient in operating with the dominant signs of the concept. Based on these approaches, we assume a dark relationship between working memory and abstract thinking.

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between working memory and abstract thinking defect in patients with schizophrenic spectrum disorders.

16 patients with schizophrenic spectrum disorders were studied. To study abstract thinking, the following neuropsychological and psychometric techniques were used: exclusion of objects, D-KEFS understanding of proverbs (latent concepts were recorded). The following techniques were used to study working memory: n-back; Wechsler Test, subtest Digit Repetition.

As a result of preliminary research, the following data was obtained. We found significant differences between the number of irrelevant features (which corresponds to impaired abstract thinking) and the severity of impaired working memory (p = 0.035). The more the memory was impaired, the more the subjects demonstrated the impairment of abstract thinking.

Thus, our results justify our assumption. A relationship between working memory and abstract thinking is founded to be possible. Further studies of this issue requires a wider techniques battery as well as a larger sample.

Poorer metacognitive abilities are recognized as strong predictors of social functioning deficits in individuals with schizophrenia.

The aim of the current study is to examine metacognitive functioning in people with schizophrenia and to explore correlations between metacognition, symptoms and general functioning.

It was a cross-sectional study involving outpatients diagnosed with schizophrenia and followed in the psychiatry “C” department at Hedi Chaker university Hospital, in Sfax -Tunisia, between may and december 2018. Sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic data were measured using self-reported questionnaires, and metacognition was assessed with the Metacognition Assessment Scale – Abbreviated version (MAS-A). The general functioning was measured with The Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF).

A total of 74 participants participated in the study. The average age was 34.1 ± 11.8 years and the sex-ratio was 1.6. The average score of global assessment of functioning was 49.39±10. Means and standard deviations on MAS scores were as follows: self-reflectivity 4.18 (1.46), understanding of others’ minds 3.20 (1.06), decentration 2.5 (1.8), mastery 2.54 (1.85), and the MAS total scores 12.42 (6.17). The results indicate that poor social functioning is associated with metacognitive difficulties (r=0.27, p<10-3). Greater metacognition was significantly correlated with fewer negative symptoms (r= -0.62, p<10-3), but metacognition was not significantly correlated with positive psychotic symptoms, cognitive disorganisation, excitement or emotional distress

These findings underscore the importance of interventions designed to enhance the patients’ metacognitive capacities, that is, the more proximal capacities linked to poorer social functioning.

Behavioral dysregulation is a common presentation of children in the Emergency-Room (ER)1. A 10-year-old African-American boy with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder with poor treatment adherence, two previous psychiatric hospitalizations and multiple ER visits, presented with dysregulation and aggressive behavior. He had inconsistent parenting and poor attachment with present involvement of child protective services. We did a systematic review to interpret associations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the development of behavioral dysregulation in later life.

To see associations between ACEs and the development of behavioral dysregulation in later life.

We searched PsycINFO, APA PsycNet, PubMed, and Medline. Among 35 articles, five were included: 1) a meta-analysis of health consequences and ACEs1; 2) a data analysis of 64,329 youth from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice that focused on suicide attempts and ACEs2; 3) a systematic review of 42 articles related to ACEs 3; 4) data from 22,575 youth for childhood abuse, trauma and neglect 4 and 5) a multimodal logistic regression study on 64,000 juvenile offenders focused on ACE scores and latent trajectory.5

There is increased risk of substance use, mental and physical health problems, and violence associated with ACEs1, 2. The relationship between childhood difficulties and suicide is interceded by adolescent’s maladaptive behaviors3. By age 35, ACEs increase the risk of becoming a serious juvenile offender4. Increased exposure to ACEs differentiates early-onset and sustained criminality from other forms of criminality5.

In India, Coronavirus pandemic started in the month of march 2020 and is growing day by day. In view of India being one of the most populous countries, it is hard to follow social distancing and abide by the lockdown rules. Therefore, as of December 2020, total number of covid-19 cases has crossed the 10 million. But the recovery rate in India is high, so the fear due to Covid-19 has decreased in intensity.

30 Patients of diagnosed Covid-19 positive,who were isolated in covid care setting in Uttar Pradesh(India),above 18yrs of age,of both sexes and willing to participate in the study were included, their socio-demographic data collected. Beck’s hopelessness scale and Perceived stress scale were administered. Infection severity upto moderate was selected and ICU patients were excluded. Results were analysed using SPSS software.

It was observed that level of hopelessness increased with increasing age and increasing severity of covid-19.Level of perceived stress also increased with increasing age and increasing covid severity. There was no relation seen between hopelessness level and perceived stress level and no difference was seen in the levels of hopelessness and perceived stress between the two sexes.

Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS) is an extremely rare disorder of unknown etiology. It affects mainly male adolescents and is thought to follow a relapse-remitting course. During episodes of illness, a wide array of neuropsychiatric symptoms may present and a psychiatric diagnosis might be incorrectly made.

We aim to review the literature on the clinical manifestations of KLS, as well as the current evidence regarding this disorder’s management.

We performed an updated review in the PubMed database using the terms “Kleine-Levin Syndrome”. The included articles were selected by title and abstract.

KLS usually presents with recurrent episodes, lasting days to weeks, of severe hypersomnia, cognitive impairment, major apathy and derealization, among other neuropsychiatric symptoms. Although it was previously thought that complete normalization occurred between episodes, recent evidence suggests that around one third of patients have mild cognitive impairment and there are alterations in brain blood flow during the asymptomatic periods. During episodes of illness, management comprises environmental measures as well as drug therapy. Corticosteroids and amantadine have been successful in stopping episodes and lithium may be useful in a preventative role, however, there are no randomized controlled trials focusing on KLS treatment.

KLS remains an elusive entity since it is an extremely rare disorder with unclear etiology, course, and no consensual treatment. Further research is warranted in this area, namely randomized controlled trials. It is important for the practicing psychiatrist to be aware of this illness in order to recognize it and adequately manage it.

The COVID19 outbreak has disrupted the mental health of resident doctors who had to care for patients. Eating disorders were among these reported mental health problems.

To screen binge eating disorder among young Tunisian doctors and its associated factors.

We conducted a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical online-based survey, from April 19, 2020, to May 5, 2020 on 180 medical residents in training. We sent the survey via a google form link. We used a self-administered anonymous questionnaire containing sociodemographic and clinical data of young doctors. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria were used to assess Binge-Eating Disorder.

Among 180 young doctors who enrolled the survey, 70,2% were female, 16% were married. The mean age was 29 years. 51,1% were frontline caregivers, working directly in diagnosing, treating or caring for patients with coronavirus disease. Among our participants, 5% presented anxiety disorder, another 5 % presented depression disorder and 1,7% had eating disorder. Binge eating disorder were present among 8,9 % of participants and it was associated to personal history of eating disorder (7,7% vs 1,1%, p<10-3), past history of depression disorder (7,2% vs 3,3%, p=0.008), exposure to media or news about coronavirus outbreak (0.5% vs 8,3%, p=0.04).

Our study indicated the evolving proportion of binge eating disorder among young doctors. Screening eating disorder is important in order to prevent related physical health problems.

In the United Kingdom(1) and internationally(2), help-seeking for domestic violence (DV) and domestic homicides have increased(3) during COVID-19 lockdown periods. Suspension and remote delivery of face-to-face clinical services, continuing healthcare and other support services limits opportunities for DV detection and disclosure.

This presentation will summarise changes in DV incidence and help-seeking during COVID-19, their impacts on health and wellbeing, and present guidance for clinicians assessing and supporting survivors.

World Health Organisation recommendations to Listen, Inquire, Validate, Enhance safety and Support (’LIVES’) survivors of DV remain the cornerstone of first-line support (4). Urgently-issued guidelines on safeguarding(5) and responding to DV during COVID-19(6) make a range of recommendations for clinicians supporting people experiencing DV.

DV is an important social determinant of physical and mental health, with a range of potential fatal and non-fatal consequences. Despite the constraints of healthcare during a pandemic, attention to patients’ risk of DV and its consequences is a crucial part of bio-psycho-social assessment and management planning. Healthcare professionals report about anxiety, depression, and fear during pandemic COVID-19 worldwide. Resilience becomes the high-powered important mechanism that reduces stress impact on the emotional state of healthcare professionals.

We suggested that effective resilience is associated with less COVID-19’s fear, as well as less anxiety, and depression; healthcare professionals’ mental health depends on age, gender, as well as involvement in the care of patients with COVID-19.

211 healthcare professionals participated in the study and were evaluated with the Connor-Davidson Resilience 10-item scale (CD-RISC-10), Fear of COVID-19 Scale, PHQ-9, GAD-7.

A negative correlation between resilience and fear of COVID-19 (p≤0,01), anxiety (p≤0,01), and depression (p≤0,001) was found. Positive correlations were found between depression, anxiety, and fear of COVID-19 (p≤0,001), between age and fear of COVID-19 (p≤0,05). No statistically significant association between age and depression, anxiety, or resilience was found. The significant difference of COVID-19 fear depending on gender – female vs male (p≤0,05) was found. No statistically significant difference in resilience and emotional state in healthcare professionals depending on the involvement in the care of patients with COVID-19 were found.

Resilience is associated with better mental health in healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anxiety and depression are connected with the fear of COVID-19 and highly comorbid in healthcare professionals. The elder age and female gender are among the risk factors for a more deteriorated mental state. Fear of COVID-19, mental state, and resilience are not associated with healthcare professionals’ involvement in the care of patients with COVID-19.
