During the COVID-19 pandemic, health care workers found themselves threatened by developing psychological effects.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of exposure to COVID-19 on the mental health of medical and paramedical staff at Farhat Hached Hospital in Sousse and to identify potential risk factors.

This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that included 166 health care workers of Farhat Hached Hospital of Sousse throughout 3 months. The patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9), the generalized anxiety disorder (GAD-7), and the revised event impact scale (IES- R) were used to assess depression, anxiety, and stress respectively.

The mean age of the participants was 37.06 ±11.07 years with a female predominance (80.1%). The median professional seniority was 7.5 years with extremes ranging from 1 to 39 years. Nurses were the most represented (34.3%) followed by medical residents (24.7%). PHQ-9, GAD-7, and IES- R scores revealed that 51.8%, 40.4%, and 28.3% of participants had moderate or severe levels of depression, anxiety, and stress, respectively. Personal history of psychiatric disorders was significantly associated with depression (p<10-3) and anxiety (p=0.004). On the other hand, paramedical staff had a significantly higher risk of experiencing symptoms of depression (OR = 2.40 ; 95% CI [1.28-4.48] ; p= 0.006) and stress (OR = 2.03 ; 95% CI [1.01-4.11] ; p= 0.04) than medical personnel.

This study reported a high prevalence of symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress among health care workers. Improving mental well-being and providing psychological support to health care workers is recommended.

The threat and preservation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine are not new issues. During the last decade, peacetime (Peace, until 2013) was disrupted by active hostility (AH, 2014–2015) and trench warfare (TW, 2016–2021). War exert acute and chronic impacts on mental health, may be a substrate for mental health disorders, especially worrisome since, today, the large-scale conflict has demanded the recruitment of adult civilians to defend and fight alongside armed forces troops.

The analysis aimed to unveil the impact of those conflicts on the mental health of the army and help us to anticipate risk factors (ranks, time period) and need for resources (admissions and days of hospitalization per time period, rank and disease).

A retrospective cross-sectional analysis of an anonymized part of the internal database included 3995 anonymized records.Data are expressed as the frequency (%), fold-increase, or mean ± SEM. Chi-square analysis and ANOVA with Bonferroni post hoc correction were performed with Jamovi.

The temporal distribution of admissions (Figure 1) showed a 6.97 (AH) and 3.62 (TW) [5.02 (TW1, 2016–2017), 3.91 (TW2, 2018–2019), and 1.95 (TW3, 2020–2021)] fold increase per year compared to peacetime. The most frequent mental health problems, accounting for 76.1% of cases, were ‘anxiety, dissociative, stress-related, somatoform and other nonpsychotic disorders’ (F40-F48, ANXd, 40.1%) and ‘mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use’ (F10–F19, PSUd, 36.0%). ‘Reaction to severe stress and adjustment disorders (F43, 76.5%) and ‘Alcohol-related disorders (F10, 89.3%) were the predominant mental health disorders, respectively.

The ICD-10 category depended on the war period (Figure 2), with peacetime to TW2 accounting for 90% of cases. ‘ANXd’ were the main mental health problem in any period, with 61.8% of cases occurring in peacetime. PSUd, residual in peacetime 6.1%, reached their peak in active hostility (47.4%), with 97.9% of ‘Alcohol-related disorders’ as the cause of these admissions, which could agree with the use of alcohol serving as a coping mechanism in front traumatic events. In trench warfare, PSUd decreased (TW1, 39.2%; TW2, 25.1%).

Hospital stays for people with ANXd or PSUd lasted at least one month in peacetime but significantly decreased in war periods (Figure 3). This could be explained by a ‘need for free beds effect’ and the distribution of admissions by ranks.

Psychotic disorders have a huge impact on social functioning, which is the ability to stablish and maintain social activities such as interpersonal relationships and self-care activities of daily living. Research data support that the early intervention in people who have experienced a first episode of psychosis (FEP) -based on a multidisciplinary treatment including both psychopharmacological and psychosocial treatments-, has a relevant role in a favorable evolution. AGES-Mind study is based on manualized psychotherapeutic interventions for people with first-psychosis episodes.

To describe the use of rehabilitation resources and social functioning in a group of people with FEP who were included in a psychotherapeutic group program versus a control group, at 12 and 24 months since the beginning of the intervention.

Longitudinal, analytical, observational, retrospective study on a cohort of 46 patients with first-episode psychosis within the last 5 years. 23 patients received group psychotherapy in the context of the AGES-Mind study and they were compared with 23 control patients who did not receive a group intervention (treatment as usual). Controls were matched by age, gender and time elapsed since the first episode of psychosis with those exposed to the intervention. Sociodemographic data, social functioning (self-care, social activities, social relationships, and behavior) and use of rehabilitation resources outcome variables were assessed.

Significant differences were found regarding participation in social activities in the intervention group versus control group at 24 months. No significant differences were found in other dimensions of social functioning or in the use of rehabilitation resources.

Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed in order to determine if the participation in group therapy leads to an improvement in social functioning and use of rehabilitation resources for people who have experienced a first episode of psychosis.

Cannabis policy liberalization has increased the availability of cannabis products for medical and recreational purposes, following a growing public demand. The large number of cannabinoid users reporting self-medication for several mental health-related problems and the limited medical indications for cannabis prescription have led to prescription dilemmas and confronted views between patients and clinicians. This discrepancy in perspectives grows together with a huge terminological confusion regarding medical cannabis, as some subjects use recreational products for medical purposes. In this session we will outline the current controversies of cannabis prescription in psychiatry and discuss how to deal with (il)legitimate patient needs and prescription barriers. Finally, we will discuss research approaches that could shed light on this controversial topic.

Covid-19 is believed to be one of the most impactful events of the 21’s century,

Pressure related to this pandemic was put on every of the health system especially residents.

Medical residents whose hierarchical position is particular, in the framework of their training they are subjected to an increased level of stress due to the constant pressure of training and the current challenges of being in the front line of the pandemic.

The aim of our study is to evaluate the presence of stress in medical residents.

Using a self-evaluation questionnaire with two parts, the first exploring age, sexe, history of medical, surgical and psychiatric disorders the second part exploring stress with the French version of PSS-10 (preveived stress scale).

Concerning our descriptive statistcs: among our 140 residents, percentage of male and female residents were almost equal with 2,85% of them already had a record of an anxiety disorder’s follow-up, 71,4% had a moderate stress level and 8,6% had high stress level.

Our study led us to the following conclusion, stress is a component that affects the quality and the work performed by the vast majority of health care workers.

Suicide is a leading cause of preventable death in the world. Interventions that can quickly reach a large and geographically dispersed population are needed. Web-based programs are potentially cost-effective, allowing continuity of care. The iFightDepression-SURVIVE (iFD-Survive) is a web-based program designed as an add-on to iFightDepression, a tool developed by the European Alliance Against Depression to target depressive symptoms (https://ifightdepression.com/en/). iFD-Survive is based on dialectical behavioral therapy skills and includes four modules: a safety plan, mindfulness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. The content is presented in various formats, including audio, videos, and registers. In addition, weekly telephone support is offered by a mental health nurse.

To investigate the feasibility (acceptability, usability, and satisfaction) of the iFD-Survive.

30 participants who received the intervention as part of a large RCT completed an online survey. To receive the intervention, participants needed to meet the following criteria: 1) digital literacy, 2) having attempted suicide in the last month, and 3) PHQ-9 scores above 5. The online survey included an ad-hoc questionnaire to collect socio-demographic data and data regarding participants’ opinions on the program’s content. Most respondents were women (20/30), with a mean age of 44 years, and secondary studies (15/30). Most participants (57%) used a mobile phone to access the website and regarded it as “easy to use” (53%). According to the SUS, many of them (57%) reported that they would like to use it frequently and that the tool was “easy” and “safe” to use (53%). Regarding acceptability, 47% of the sample indicated that the iFD-Survive content was adequate to improve their symptoms, and 56% considered that their symptoms of depression have improved as a result of the intervention. 83% of the sample considered telephone follow-up “very useful.” The majority (70%) consulted the program once a week. The “safety plan” and the mindfulness module were regarded as the most useful, followed by “distress tolerance.” The audio for practicing mindfulness skills and the written material were considered very useful, while the videos were valuable.

Online tools can promote continuity of care, helping to prevent further suicide attempts in vulnerable populations. These preliminary findings suggest that the iFD-Survive is feasible among participants with depressive symptoms who have recently attempted suicide. However, these results are based on a small sample of highly educated women; therefore, future research is needed to determine if these can be transferred to other sub-populations.

Insomnia in depression is common and difficult to resolve. Music is commonly used as a sleep aid, and clinical trials pointing to positive effects of music as a sleep aid are increasing adding to the evidence base. There is little knowledge on the effectiveness of music for depression related insomnia.

A recent RCT study conducted in psychiatry at Aalborg University Hospital examined effects of a music intervention for insomnia in depression. The intervention group listened to music at bedtime for four weeks, controls were offered music intervention post-test. Primary outcome measure was Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Secondary outcomes included Actigraphy, The Hamilton depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) and World Health Organisation well-being questionnaires (WHO-5, WHOQOL-BREF).

A two-armed randomized controlled trial (n=112) and a qualitative interview study (n=4)

The RCT study showed signficant improvements for the music intervention group in sleep quality and quality of life at four weeks according to global PSQI scores (effect size= -2.1, 95%CI -3.3; -0.9) and WHO-5 scores (effect size 8.4, 95%CI 2.7; 14.0). Actigraphy measures showed no changes and changes in depression symptoms (HAMD-17) were not detected.

The interview study unfolded examples of the influences of music on sleep and relaxation. Music distracted, affected mood and arousal positively and supported formation of sleep habits.

Results from the trial are discussed and merged with findings from the interview study. The results from the trial suggested moderate effects of music listening for the population while findings from the interview study showed examples of individual and highly varying outcomes.

Music is suggested as a low-cost, side-effect free and safe intervention in supplement to existing treatments improving sleep in depression.

The present time is characterized by the instability of society, the authoritarian state, social insecurity, and the events of the global pandemic. One of the main properties of modernity is the continuous nature of the social changes taking place in it. Social uncertainty, instability and social insecurity complicate the usual strategy for constructing ideas about the world around us. In connection with certain factors, events in a person’s life can be defined as significant.

The purpose of this study was to ckeck the fact that important life events are something associated with stress and have a negative emotional connotation.

The methodological basis of the research was the qualitative study: semi-structured interviews, including projective techniques (case and content analysis) were carried out. N = 50 residents of Russia and Austria, age 16-65.

The hypothesis about important life events was completely confirmed. It turned out that important life events were described by the respondents mainly as negative, that is, in most cases (more than 70% of the total number of answers), important events were associated as something associated with stress, having a negative emotional connotation. It is interesting that mentions of joyful and happy events were much less frequent than negative ones, while there were practically no descriptions of the experience of vivid emotions accompanying any long-awaited events. At the same time, important events are quite extensively associated with stress and critical emotional experiences, often with mental problems: “shock”, “crisis”, “debts”, “severe depression”, “complete collapse”, “everything goes to hell”.

Important life events for a person are rather negatively assessed events, as well as events associated with stress, rather than positively assessed events.

Both in consultations with the general practitioner and with the psychiatrist, antidepressants are one of the most used drugs (1). These have multiple indications, and there are different groups according to their mechanism of action. In relation to this case, we are going to talk about Venlafaxine, a dual-type antidepressant, that is, it inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine. One of the most common side effects is digestive discomfort, which usually resolves after a few weeks (2). However, we should not ignore these symptoms, since they can hide something more serious.

Presentation of a clinical case on a patient who presented an increase in pancreatic amylase after starting treatment with Venlafaxine.

Bibliographic review including the latest articles in Pubmed on side effects of antidepressant treatment, and more specifically at the gastrointestinal level (in this case we will talk about pancreatitis).

We present the case of a 49-year-old woman, who was hospitalized 2 years ago, due to a first depressive episode. During this admission, psychopharmacological treatment was started for the first time, on that occasion with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), treatment of first choice (3). The patient had no side effects at that time, but the response was very modest, so it was decided to replace that antidepressant with Venlafaxine (with dual action), up to 150mg. The depressive symptoms improved markedly, however the patient began to feel digestive discomfort (which at first did not seem to be of great importance). A general analysis was performed, in which an increase in lipase (978 U/L) and amylase (528 U/L) was detected. An echoendoscopy, an abdominal scan, and a magnetic resonance cholangiography were performed; Pancreatitis secondary to drugs was suspected (a severe condition). Luckily, no significant lesions were found in the tests, and the levels of amylase and lipase decreased when Venlafaxine treatment was withdrawn (without reaching the normal range). The patient was discharged and continued to attend consultations. In the last control, amylase had dropped to 225 U/L. His abdominal pain disappeared. Treatment with Vortioxetine (a multimodal antidepressant) was started, however the amylase levels continue to be monitored, and the patient continues to see the gastroenterologist.

Gastrointestinal side effects are very common when taking antidepressant treatment, and in most cases they do not usually represent a serious problem.

However, it is described in the scientific literature that in some cases, acute pancreatitis secondary to some drugs, including Venlafaxine, can occur (4). In order to detect it, it is necessary to perform a blood test and sometimes also other complementary tests.

For its treatment, the fundamental thing is to withdraw the causing drug, trying to find other alternatives, and carry out a control to monitor possible complications

Dementia has a significant psychological and emotional impact on families, especially for caregivers of people living with dementia. In this perspective, the World Health Organization has developed iSupport for Dementia, an online training and skills program to prevent and/or reduce mental health problems associated with the provision of care and improve the quality of life of caregivers. It is being translated and adapted in different countries and as of August 2022, 31 adaptations using 27 different languages were in progress. However, the availability of the program should only be carried out after evaluating its effects on caregivers’ mental health outcomes (such as burden, depressive and anxious symptoms, quality of life, among others).

To analyze randomized clinical trial protocols to assess the effects of the iSupport program in different countries.

This is a data survey carried out in October 2022 on clinical trial registry platforms Clinical Trials, The Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Netherlands Trial Register and Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry by two independent researchers. Descriptive analyzis were performed for sample size, primary outcomes, secondary outcomes and intervention design.

Seven clinical trial registries were identified, conducted in Australia/China, Brazil, Great Britain, the Netherlands, India, Japan and Portugal, published in English, from 2018 to 2022. The sample size ranged from 184 to 390 participants. Regarding the primary outcomes linked to the effect of using iSupport, five countries will analyze burden, anxiety and depression. Only in Australia/China and the Netherlands, the primary outcome will be quality of life and stress, respectively. Secondary outcomes vary between studies, with measures of quality of life (n=6), self-efficacy (n=4), program usability (n=4), cognition and problematic behaviors (n=3), attitudes (n=3), quality of support (n=3), positive aspects of care (n=2), knowledge, competence, resilience and informal costs of care (n=1). Most studies will carry out assessments at baseline, 3 and 6 months after the intervention, with the exception of Japan that will perform at baseline and at 1 and 3 months after the intervention and 6 months.

Analysis of the effectiveness of iSupport is one of the World Health Organization guidelines for countries that are culturally adapting this program. Brazil is the only country in Latin America with a clinical trial registration so far. Burden, anxiety and depression are outcomes considered by most countries. The results could provide evidence to strengthen and expand the possibilities for collaboration between researchers, as internet-based interventions have shown promising results on the mental health and well-being.

Screening instruments can be crucial in child and adolescent mental healthcare practice by allowing to triage the patient flow in a limited resource setting and help in clinical decision making. However, for a screening procedure to work, we must be sure that the screening tools used have reasonable validity and clinical utility in the population they are used in.

Our study aimed to examine the psychometric and predictive properties of the parent-report version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), with the application of the original UK-based scoring algorithm, in a clinical psychiatric population sample of Latvian children and adolescents.

363 outpatients aged 2 to 17 years from two outpatient child psychiatry centres in Latvia were screened with the parent-report version of the SDQ and assigned clinical psychiatric diagnoses. The basic psychometric properties, and ability of the SDQ to predict the clinical diagnosis in major diagnostic groups (emotional, conduct, hyperactivity, and developmental disorders) was assessed.

Most of the study participants were male (n=230, 63%). The mean age was 9,28 (SD=3,82) years for males and 10,93 (SD=4,11) years for females.

Emotional problems, hyperactivity, and prosocial subscales of the SDQ, as well as the externalising and total difficulties scales, demonstrated acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach’s alfa > 0,7). The results for the conduct problems and internalising difficulties scales were also close to being on the acceptable level (0,68 and 0,69 respectively). The peer problems subscale was the only SDQ scale with poor internal consistency (0,57).

The subscales of the parent-report SDQ showed significant correlation with the corresponding clinical diagnoses. The sensitivity and specificity of appropriate subscales of the parent-report SDQ were 67% CI [0,57,0,77] and 57% CI [0,50, 0,64] for any emotional disorder, 78% CI [0,67, 0,89] and 57% CI [0,50, 0,64] for any conduct disorder, 65% CI [0,55, 0,75] and 78% CI [0,73, 0,83] for the hyperkinetic disorder, 72% CI [0,63, 0,81] and 44% CI [0,36, 0,52] for developmental disability.

Overall, none of the subscales of the SDQ has reached the interval of potential usefulness for clinical decision-making in specialized psychiatric settings, based on the positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio and diagnostic odds ratio estimates.

We suggest the SDQ rather be used in primary healthcare settings, where it can be an essential tool to help family physicians recognise children needing further specialised psychiatric evaluation. There is a need to assess the psychometric properties and validate the SDQ in a larger populational sample in Latvia, determine the population-specific cut-off scores, and reassess the performance of the scale in primary healthcare practice.

Traumatic stress is a major determinant of decreasing global mental health (Schnyder, 2013). Traumatic stress is a global public health issue, with the majority (70.4% and 88.7%) of the general population experiencing a traumatic event at least once in their lifetime (Schnyder, 2013, Kessler et al., 2017, de Vries and Olff, 2009, Ribeiro et al., 2013), which may result in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) (Iqbal et al., 2022, Riedl et al., 2019). People with a diagnosis of PTSD have been found to be at increased risk of developing dementia (hazard ratio (HR) of 1.61)(Gunak et al., 2021). Studies on the comorbidity of PTSD in dementia are sparse, probably, because of the lack of a valid diagnostic tool (Havermans et al., 2022). As subjects with dementia are often unable to give a valid report of their life history, in particular a delayed-onset PTSD may be easily missed. Preliminary findings reported a comorbidity rate of PTSD in veterans with dementia between 4.7- 7.8% (Sobczak et al., 2021).

We will investigate a) clinical manifestation and b) diagnostic challenges of PTSD in dementia.

a) 13 papers were included. Only 1% of included cases fulfilled the DSM-5 criteria of PTSD.

Most commonly described PTSD symptoms were: irritability and anger (9%), persistent negative emotional state ( 9%), and sleep disturbances (8%). In 93% of the cases reports, other symptoms were described, e.g. screaming (33.3%). B) Diagnostic challenges are: attributing symptoms to the past traumatic event, overlap in symptoms between PTSD and personality disorders and interference of other neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Mondial the number of people with dementia are sky rocketing and number of subjects with comorbid PTSD is substantial and will increase steadily in the coming years. PTSD and dementia are both known for their impact on the quality of life of those affected. In clinical practice, we see that the combination of both causes significant psychological suffering. And that while it is precisely in people with dementia that the experiences of these violent events often revive.

As the clinical manifestation of PTSD in dementia may differ and expertise on PTSD is often missing in geriatric wards, diagnosis of PTSD is easily missed. Hence, related behavior is often described as ‘unexplained’ or ‘problem’ while it can better be seen as ‘signal’ behavior (van Dongen et al., 2022). Adding observational research to the diagnostic process in people with dementia can give insight into underlying causes of neuropsychiatric symptoms. The TRADE-interview can be helpful in diagnosing PTSD. The value of using validated tests is emphasized.

Data on the differences between young and elderly patients with bipolar disorder and between elderly patients with early and late age of onset are limited.

This is a retrospective study of 420 bipolar patients. In this study, patients with onset after age 60 (n=37) were compared to other patients with early-onset bipolar (EOB) (<>50 years; n=383).

In the year before recruitment, older patients more frequently reported a rapid course of the illness, but fewer suicide attempts , more often a single psychotropic medication and had less severe manic and psychotic symptoms, atypical antipsychotics were administered less frequently. but no difference in depressive symptomatology was observed.

Elderly bipolar patients differ from younger bipolar patients in course and treatment. Medication use and the occurrence of rapid cycling in elderly bipolar patients deserve careful investigation.

Antipsychotic drugs are widely prescribed for schizophrenia and other mental disorders. They are critical in the pharmacological management of severe psychotic disorder.

The adverse effects of antipsychotics are common, with a potential negative impact on adherence and engagement. Despite this, the scientific study of the prevalence of adverse antipsychotic effects is a neglected area.

Antipsychotic adverse effects are diverse and frequently experienced, but are not often systematically assessed. There is a need for further scientific study concerning the management of these side effects.

Due to the convenient and easy access to the Internet, there is an increasing tendency to seek online health information instead of formal help-seeking. To date, there is a very little amount of research on online help-seeking behaviors for mental health problems, with no studies having been performed in Tunisia.

We aimed to explore mental health information-seeking behaviors and e-health literacy in a sample of Tunisian community adults.

We performed a cross-sectional descriptive study among adults from the general population. All participants were administered the Barriers to Access to Care Evaluation scale (BACE-30), the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (SIS-5), the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21), and the eHealth Competency Scale (eHEALS).

A total of 44.2% participants reported having searched the Internet for mental health-related information during the last 12 months. Google was the most used tool by participants when searching for mental health related information. The main topics searched were symptoms and management (n=49%), followed by finding a diagnosis (n=47%), researching for medications and physicians (n=41%). We conducted a multivariate analysis to identify factors related to participants’ e-health literacy. A higher depression score (p=0.037), lower levels of education (p=0.011), and perceived barriers to access to care (p=0.004) were substantially linked to worse e-health literacy.

While a high proportion of participants reported mental health information-seeking behaviors, those with higher depression and who perceived more barriers to care access exhibited lower e-health literacy. These findings may have practical clinical implications.

Schizophrenia is a chronic psychiatric disorder with disorganization progressive and important affecting several spheres: thought, affectivity, cognition and social life of the subject. It is a serious mental disorder with a prevalence of nearly 1%.

The objective of this study is to resolve important questions concerning the interaction of anxiety and schizophrenia in patients followed in psychiatry at Arrazi Hospital .

Descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study, conducted over a period from May 2022 to October 2022 in patients consulted in Arrazi de Salé, using a questionnaire grouping together the sociodemographic characteristics, the risks and the advantages of antipsychotics, medical comorbidities and the mobilization of psychosocial support, and thus the BPRS Anxiety Rating Scale.

Of the 42 patients who completed the study, 18 were female and 24 were male 60% were single. The average age was 36.63 years, 60% have secondary education, 25% primary, and 15% university level, 30% have a family history of schizophrenia.

Most schizophrenics encountered in psychiatry are stabilized on antipsychotic treatment, and those who have an anxious comorbidity are still too often underestimated , put on the account of the positive symptoms and the negative symptoms of schizophrenia, it is insufficiently diagnosed and treated.

The effect of anxiety symptoms on patients is easily overlooked.

It should be kept in mind that anxiety in schizophrenia requires special attention when discussing and prescribing antipsychotic medications.

Optimal interventions for patients with comorbid schizophrenia and anxiety differ by quality of life.

At all consultations, preventive strategies should consider mindful interviews and the risks and benefits of treatment for schizophrenia and comorbidities.

The Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K6) is a psychometrically robust measure of psychological distress for adult populations, the most commonly used screening measure in the general population. It is used in epidemiological surveys globally, including the World Health Organization and World Mental Health Survey. Recently, there has been a research interest in examining the psychometric properties of the K6 in college students’ populations.

To examine the reliability, validity and factor structure of the Arabic adaptation K6 in Kuwaiti college students.

The participants were 1402 individuals (509 males, 893 females) Kuwait University undergraduates, aged 18–35 years-old mean age = 21.50 ± 4.87. The Arabic versions of The Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K6), The Depression Anxiety Stress Scales DASS-42, Beck Depression Inventory-II, and Beck Anxiety Inventory –BAI were administered to participants including demographics. The internal consistency reliability, factor structure, and convergent validity of the (K6) with DASS-42, BDI-II, & BAI were computed.

Internal consistency was satisfactory for the K6 (Cronbach’s alpha =0.80 for males & 0.79 for females). The results revealed significant gender differences in distress with a favor for females (f=8.95, p. >.003). Principal component analyses (PCA) showed that a K6 one -component solution explains %61.51 of the total variance for males and %57.23 for females. The k6 correlates with DASS Stress (r=.76), DASS Depression (r=.57), DASS Anxiety (r=0.76), BAI (r=.73) and BDI-II (r=46).

The K6 provides satisfactory validation, and can be recommended as a measure of distress among Arab college students.

Long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) are an important and arguably under-utilized therapeutic option, particularly where medication adherence is a priority (Pilon et al. Clin Ther 2017; 39 1972-1985).

In recent years, meta-analytic reviews of depot medications concluded that this route of administration produced clinical advantages in terms of overall outcome, with lower probability of relapse, readmissions, shorter hospital admission time, mortality, and thus better long- term prognosis over other oral antipsychotics (Leucht et al. Schizophr Res 2011;127 83-92). Depot treatment is associated with lower overall medical expenditure (Taipal et al. Schizophr Bull 2018;17 1381- 1387).

To describe the evolution of people diagnosed with a psychotic disorder 6 months before and after the introduction of long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) in the acute psychiatric unit of San Rafael Hospital (Spain) from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.

Retrospective and prospective naturalistic study. Patients with a diagnosis of psychotic disorder who were admitted to the acute psychiatric unit in 2018 and who were introduced to LAI (paliperidone palmitate, aripiprazole, olanzapine pamoate or risperidone), are selected. Sociodemographic variables (sex, age, ethnicity, migratory status, marital status, occupation, cohabitation) and clinical variables (main and secondary diagnosis, comorbidity with drug use and history of poor adherence) are described. The number of emergency visits and hospital admissions before and after the introduction of LAI antipsychotic treatment is compared.

The sample was composed of 99 subjects. The mean age was 42.46 years (SD 13.439) and 67.7% were men. The socio-demographic profile was: european caucasian ethnicity (73.7%), non- migrant status (69.7%), single (67.7%), inactive (43.4%) and residing in the home of relatives (50.5%). 53.5% have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, followed by schizoaffective disorder (24.2%). 45.5% are diagnosed with any drug use disorder, the most frequent being cannabis (30.3%). 76.8% have a history of discontinuing oral treatment. There was a statistically significant decrease (p<0.0001) in number of emergency visits and hospital admissions after the introduction of LAI antipsychotic.

In the general linear multivariate before-after model, there were significant differences (p=0.002) in the number of admissions after long-term IM antipsychotic treatment. As for the comparison of the effects between the different LAIs, there are differences between them (p< 0.0001). Post-hoc analysis (Bonferroni) only showed differential significance for treatment with Paliperidone Palmitate (p<0.0001).

The use of LAI antipsychotic can reduce the number of emergency room visits and hospital admissions, in line with literature.
