The paper describes entire solutions to the eiconal type non-linear partial differential equations, which include the eiconal equations ${{({{X}_{1}}(u))}^{2}}\,+\,{{({{X}_{2}}(u))}^{2}}\,=\,1$ as special cases, where ${{X}_{1}}\,=\,{{p}_{1}}\partial /\partial {{z}_{1}}\,+\,{{p}_{2}}\partial /\partial {{z}_{2}},\,{{X}_{2}}\,=\,{{p}_{3}}\partial /\partial {{z}_{1}}\,+\,{{p}_{4}}\partial /\partial {{z}_{2}}$ are linearly independent operators with ${{p}_{j}}$ being arbitrary polynomials in ${{\mathbf{C}}^{2}}$.

Although L. Nachbin introduced the concept of a quasiuniform space in connection with the study of uniform ordered spaces [7], it was A. Császár who first developed a theory of completion for these spaces. In the review of Császár′s work [3], J. Isbell wrote: “A topogenic space is already complete according to the present definition; an unfortunate side effect is that not every convergent filter is Cauchy.” This aspect of Császár′s theory of completeness seems to have stalled the investigation of its applications, so that even in the study of uniform ordered spaces Császár′s important work has often been overlooked. While it may have seemed that Isbell had pointed out the Achilles′ heel of Császár′s theory, in this paper we outline a construction of Császár′s completion for quasi-uniform spaces, which differs from Császár′s original construction and the construction given by S. Salbany [8], in which Isbell′s objection does not obtain.

In this paper we prove weighted norm inequalities with weights in the ${{A}_{p}}$ classes, for pseudodifferential operators with symbols in the class $S_{\rho ,\delta }^{n(\rho -1)}$ that fall outside the scope of Calderón–Zygmund theory. This is accomplished by controlling the sharp function of the pseudodifferential operator by Hardy–Littlewood type maximal functions. Our weighted norm inequalities also yield ${{L}^{p}}$ boundedness of commutators of functions of bounded mean oscillation with a wide class of operators in $\text{OPS}_{\rho ,\delta }^{m}$.

In this note we use the method of generating functions to show that there is a unique way of splitting the non-negative integers into two classes in such a way that the sums of pairs of distinct integers will be the same (with same multiplicities) for both classes. We prove a similar theorem for products of positive integers and consider some related problems.

In 1857, Kronecker [10] showed that if θ1,…, θn are the roots of the polynomial P(z)= zn|cn-1+ … + cn, where c1, …, cn are integers with cn≠0, and if |θ1| ≤ 1, …, |θ1| ≤1, then θ1, …, θn are roots of unity. The proof is short and ingenious: Consider the polynomials Pm(z) whose roots are The condition on the size of the roots and the fact that the ci are integers implies that there can only be a finite number of different Pm. Thus two distinct powers of each root must coincide and this means that each root is a root of unity.

In the first part we construct a subset H of positive measure in the unit interval and a zero-sequence {an} so that H contains no homothetic copy of {an}. In Theorem 2 we prove that if ε > 0 and a zero-sequence {an} are given then there exists a set A of measure less than ε so that covers the interval. An application of this result is Theorem 3: for any sequence {an} and ε > 0 there is a set H of measure 1 - ε such that for no N and c is {an + c}n ≥ N contained by H.

Bruns' Theorem states that the classical integrals of the gravitational three-body problem generate all algebraic integrals. We show that the first step in his proof, together with Ziglin's non-integrability criterion for complex systems, can be used to prove the non-existence of energy independent algebraic integrals in certain real analytic systems. We also show that this aspect of Bruns' argument is purely algebraic: We offer a proof based on elementary differential algebraic methods.

It is an old problem to find how a collection of congruent plane figures should be arranged without overlapping to cover the largest possible fraction of the plane or some region of the plane. If similar figures of arbitrary different sizes are permitted, Vitali's theorem ([7] p. 109) guarantees that packings which cover almost all points are possible. It is natural to study the diameters of figures used in such a packing and we will investigate this for the case of a closed disk packed with smaller open disks.

We describe two methods to combine sets of lines of different 2-dimensional projective planes into line sets of new 2-dimensional projective planes. Using these methods we describe several ways in which sets of circles of different 2-dimensional circle planes can be combined into circle sets of new 2-dimensional circle planes.

A “cubic” graph is one with three edges incident on each vertex. Let v and e be the number of vertices and edges, respectively. Then 3v = 2e for a cubic graph. The girth of a graph is the smallest number of edges in any non-trivial polygon. A minimal graph is one with the smallest number of edges with its particular properties. Consider $M$, a bounded domain in ${{\mathbb{R}}^{d}}$, which is a Riemanian manifold with piecewise smooth boundary and suppose that the billiard associated to the geodesic flow reflecting on the boundary according to the laws of geometric optics is ergodic. We prove that the boundary value of the eigen-functions of the Laplace operator with reasonable boundary conditions are asymptotically equidistributed in the boundary, extending previous results by Gérard and Leichtnam as well as Hassell and Zelditch, obtained under the additional assumption of the convexity of $M$.

Let q be a prime number and $K = \mathbb Q(\theta )$ be an algebraic number field with $\theta $ a root of an irreducible trinomial $x^{6}+ax+b$ having integer coefficients. In this paper, we provide some explicit conditions on $a, b$ for which K is not monogenic. As an application, in a special case when $a =0$ , K is not monogenic if $b\equiv 7 \mod 8$ or $b\equiv 8 \mod 9$ . As an example, we also give a nonmonogenic class of number fields defined by irreducible sextic trinomials.

We introduce the concept of a $\{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E},\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F}\}$-Rota–Baxter operator, as a twisted version of a Rota–Baxter operator of weight zero. We show how to obtain a certain $\{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E},\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F}\}$-Rota–Baxter operator from a solution of the associative (Bi)Hom-Yang–Baxter equation, and, in a compatible way, a Hom-pre-Lie algebra from an infinitesimal Hom-bialgebra.

A tournament is a directed graph in which there is exactly one arc between any two distinct vertices. Let denote the automorphism group of T. A tournament T is said to be point-symmetric if acts transitively on the vertices of T. Let g(n) be the maximum value of taken over all tournaments of order n. In [3] Goldberg and Moon conjectured that with equality holding if and only if n is a power of 3. The case of point-symmetric tournaments is what prevented them from proving their conjecture. In [2] the conjecture was proved through the use of a lengthy combinatorial argument involving the structure of point-symmetric tournaments. The results in this paper are an outgrowth of an attempt to characterize point-symmetric tournaments so as to simplify the proof employed in [2].

Given an integral functional defined on ${{L}_{p}}$, $1\le p<\infty $, under a growth condition we give an upper bound of the Clarke directional derivative and we obtain a nice inclusion between the Clarke subdifferential of the integral functional and the set of selections of the subdifferential of the integrand.

The study of chaotic vibration for multidimensional PDEs due to nonlinear boundary conditions is challenging. In this paper, we mainly investigate the chaotic oscillation of a two-dimensional non-strictly hyperbolic equation due to an energy-injecting boundary condition and a distributed self-regulating boundary condition. By using the method of characteristics, we give a rigorous proof of the onset of the chaotic vibration phenomenon of the zD non-strictly hyperbolic equation. We have also found a regime of the parameters when the chaotic vibration phenomenon occurs. Numerical simulations are also provided.
