This journal is a wholly open access journal, which means all articles are published as Gold Open Access under a Creative Commons licence. In many cases Gold Open Access articles are supported by an article processing charge (APC), typically paid by the corresponding author’s funding body or institution. However multiple other routes to funding Gold OA, including institutional agreements and APC waivers and discounts, are available to authors. Article processing charges
The costs of publication (coordination of peer review, copy-editing and typesetting, hosting and dissemination) for OA publishing are covered by an article processing charge (APC) that is typically met by the author’s funding body or institution
The APCs for Journal of Glaciology and Annals of Glaciology are:
- Non-IGS members: £1,360/$1,815 for an Article; £680/$910 for a Letter; £310/$425 for a Communication
- IGS members: £1,225/$1,640 for an Article; £615/$820 for a Letter; £279/$385 for a Communication
Waivers and discounts are provided to authors from low- and middle-income countries, based on the World Bank list. View a list of countries eligible for an OA publication fee waiver.

Articles will be published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) licence as standard, but authors may elect to publish under the following alternative licences:
