Summary
This Latin version of the Sunday Letter is the source of Old English Letters C and D. Vienna 133 (V) has been used as the base text since Kassel, theol. 39 (K) contains only the first portion of the text; minor spelling variants in K have not been recorded.
Incipit epistola domini nostri Iesu Christi saluatoris mundi de interdictione omnium malorum et de obseruatione omnium bonorum quam angelus suo digito scripsit et in manus Petri episcopi Antiocensis ecclesie tradidit, mandans et adiurans per nomen dei uiui ut diuulgaret Petrus episcopus hec uerba domini et non sua omnibus regibus etj episcopis necnon et omni populo christiano. Ego angelus et nuntius dei saluatoris mando et remando imperatoribus ac regibus omnibusque potestatibus ut diligant iustitiam in omnibus causis, seruiant domino nostro Iesu Christo in omni timore, et custodiant maxime diem dominicum in qua multa mirabilia fecit dominus. Primo fecit angelos, archangelos cum omnibus ordinibus celestibus et uniformemu materiam. Die dominico fecit quattuor elementa et omnia qua uidentur adque constant sunt facta. Die dominica creauit omnium animas. Die dominica natus est Christus ad redimendum mundum. Die dominica diuisit Mare Rubrum in .xii. diuisiones. Die dominica dominus noster surrexit. Die dominica recessit sinagoga Iudeorum et nata est ecclesia katholica. Die dominica finitus erit mundus. Die dominica iudicabit dominus genus humanum et quio bene uixerunt ibunt in uitam eternam, qui uero mala egerunt cruciabuntur in ignem eternum cum dyabulo et sociis suis. Idcirco precepit dominus deus uobis ut custodiatis diem dominicum a mundano opere scilicet ab inmunditia, abs fornicatione, ab ebrietate, ab homicidio, a mendacio, a rapina, a furtu, ab adulterio, a contentione, ab emulatione, ab omni nequitia, ab omni placito, nisi ut uaceret, orationem dicatis in ecclesia, ut audiatis predicationem a doctoribus seu rectoribus ecclesiarum et ut uisitetis loca sanctorum. Et infirmos debetisc uisitare, mortuosd humilimee sepelire, pauperes pascere, nudos uestire, sicientes potare, aduenas adiuuare, captiuos reddimere, peregrinos benigne suscipere, egenis uiduisque solatium prebere, discordantes christianos pacificare. Ecce opera digna coram deo omni tempore, maxime uero custodiendus est dies dominicus, quia dies domini prima est omnium dierum et ultima.
