In this Appendix we shall consider in detail Dionysius of Halicarnassus' evidence for the religious roles of the curiae. This relates both to his own vision of the curiae, and to wider issues of the development of the curiae which are further discussed in Appendix 2, and taken together present a much more dynamic vision of the curiae than is sometimes appreciated. We begin with his major statement of the religious roles of the curiae as laid down by Romulus.
