Summary

This book is based on the premise that the term translation does not refer to a stable concept but, rather, to one which is undergoing a shift of meaning that allows for the inclusion of something called news media translation into the scope of translation research. In order to understand how the term translation is used in this book in relation to news media but also more in general as a practice and as an object of study, this chapter illustrates how the meanings of translation, as well as the practices associated with it, have changed through time and space.
