Dilectis filiis Benedicto et Martino de Zachariis, fratribus, civibus Januensibus. Habet quamplurimum religiosorum et aliorum fidelium fidedigna relatio quod vos, zelo fidei et pie devotionis accensi, in insula Chii cunctis fidelibus, per partes illas habentibus transitum, magne humanitatis solatia exhibetis, dirigentes ipsos et eos ab incursibus hostium fidei defendentes; ex quibus, preter premium retributionis eterne, apud Sedem Apostolicam et fideles laudabilis fame preconio vos plurimum commendabiles exhibetis. Cum itaque, sicut accepimus, propter defensionem insule supradicte, ad cuius occupationem Turchi, eiusdem insule vicini, fidei catholice ferventer aspirant, armatam militiam contra Turchos eosdem jugiter oporteat vos tenere, ac proventus eiusdum insule, de quibus huiusmodi militiam sustinetis, de mastice, que in dicta insula nascitur, provenire noscantur, dictaque mastix ad presens, ut hactenus consuevit, propter instantem Januensium guerram a christianis mercatoribus non ematur, ac propterea vos, sufficientes redditus non habentes, necessitate urgente cogamini remittere stipendiarios de insula memorata, sicque dicta insula, necessaria et oportuna fidelium militia destituta, timeatur ad manus dictorum hostium devenire, ex eo maxime quod dicti Turchi, per vos pluries temporibus proximis debellati, ad occupationem eiusdem insule amaro et concitato animo sunt amplius solito provocati, et eiusdem insule occupatione, quod Deus avertat, cunctis fidelibus, in aliis insulis convicinis morantibus, magna destructionis pericula imminerent, dictaque mastix quasi pro majori parte non nisi a Sarracenis portatur, vos huiusmodi non solum vestra sed aliorum fidelium utilitate et necessitate diligenter attentis, vestris supplicationibus inclinati, vobis, de fratrum nostrorum consilio, quod usque ad biennium predictam masticem dumtaxat, cum nostro (sic) navigio tamen deferre in personis propriis vel per alios vestros familiares seu servitores mittere ad partes Alexandrie et Egipti, nulla illuc alia mercimonia deferendo, vel etiam transmittendo, dictamque masticem vendere et precium vel merces alias inde recipere et reportare possitis, nec propter ea excommunicationis sententias et penas alias, per Lateranense concilium et constitutiones quascunque seu processus a predecessoribus nostris Romanis pontificibus et a nobis editas,
