Summary
In the New Statutes (B. VI) may be seen the section on Discipline, with its orders as to wearing of academical dress, the rendering obedience to persons in authority, its penalties and fines, etc. The disciplinary regulations are as follows. A court, called the Vice-Chancellor and the Sex Viri, the members of which shall be the Vice-Chancellor and six persons elected singly by Grace for two years, shall have jurisdiction over University officers and over such persons not in statu pupillari as hold degrees or titles of degrees. Five members of the court shall constitute a quorum.
As a court of appeal the Vice-Chancellor and the Sex Viri shall hear appeals from decisions of the General Board, or other body, depriving a University officer of his office on account of failure to perform satisfactorily the duties or to fulfil the conditions of tenure of his office, and shall affirm or reverse such decisions. The judgment of the Vice-Chancellor and the Sex Viri in such cases shall be final.
As a court of first instance the Vice-Chancellor and the Sex Viri shall adjudicate when persons over whom they have jurisdiction are charged otherwise than as aforesaid with offences against the discipline of the University or with grave misconduct. Every decision of the court acting as a court of first instance shall require the concurrence of at least four of its members.
