Summary
Franciscus van den Enden was born in Antwerp, where he attended the Augustinian College and the Jesuit College. In 1619 he entered the Jesuit noviciate in Mechelen and served as a teacher at different Jesuit colleges in Flanders, but in 1633 he was dismissed from the order for unclear reasons. Van den Enden obtained a degree in medicine between 1637 and 1641, but it is not known where. In this period Van den Enden also became involved in the art trade of his younger brother, the Antwerp print publisher Martinus van den Enden I.
