Summary

The following collection of early Anecdotes has been selected from various Jest Books; either published at Cambridge or under the title of Cambridge Jest Books, printed in the seventeenth century. They serve to show the state of this class of literature during that period; and are also fair specimens of books that served in the place which our periodical literature has since supplied.
