  • Summary

    The study of environmental disaster prevention can unfold in many ways and urban planning is part of that process. Nordic and European cities have adopted strategies to diminish the impact of space transformation and climate change. Our focus is the presentation of Scandinavian and Nordic urban planning as both a highly internationalized blueprint and an economic strategy for the region. It combines nature with its material exploration in a rational fashion relying on innovative ideas and cross-border aspects. The aim of this chapter is to show how Nordic cities deal with land use, urban development, and governance oriented to environmental disaster prevention. Relevant definitions coalescing into a historical perspective, maps, and data are the methods of analyses used. The conclusion is a new key-concept that is formulated as the Nordic green urban knowledge.
