Building a new program to advance clinical services and educate healthcare trainees in sexual and reproductive healthcare is a multifaceted endeavor and should be tailored to individual sites. However, there are common threads that connect such programs. This chapter provides a stepwise framework for developing a program inclusive of developing clinical services, designing a rotation with strong learning objectives and curriculum, addressing partial participation in abortion care by trainees, and managing partnerships with other training sites. The pragmatic framework presented in this guide also addresses how to develop institutional support and ensure long-term sustainability of the program beyond the start-up phase. Though the framework is geared toward academic medicine, it could be utilized in other settings.
