1 Even more comprehensive are two unpublished doctoral dissertations completed at American universities. The earlier is Grundy, Kenneth W., “Theories and Ideologies of West African Underdevelopment and Development,” 2 vols. (Pennsylvania State University, 1963).Google Scholar It deals with the views of the leaders of six West African states— Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, and Senegal. The more recent, and considerably more general in scope and coverage, is Andrain, Charles F., “Political Concepts of African Leaders” (University of California, Berkeley, 1964)Google Scholar, the findings of which are embodied in Andrain's article.
