Ionic liquids for energy applications. Compounds consisting only of ions are known as salts. Ionic liquids are salts with very low melting points, hence they are liquid at room temperature. This issue of MRS Bulletin highlights the potential of ionic liquids in energy applications that can contribute to the transition to the sustainable production of electricity and use of energy.
