Microstructure Informatics in Process–Structure–Property Relations
Microstructure informatics in process–structure–property relations. Materials informatics is the application of informatics to materials science and engineering to aid in the understanding, development, and discovery of materials. This issue of MRS Bulletin focuses on microstructure informatics, which is a branch of materials data and information science concerned with the identification and quantification of dominant scales of hierarchy of structure that can be characterized, digitally rendered, and systematically explored in terms of correlations that govern process–structure and structure–property relations. The cover shows a 3D view of a mortar microstructure, with voids in red, aggregates in other colors, and a transparent matrix. The displayed volume measures 1.25 × 1.25 × 1.25 cm3.
