Although I will have done some or all of the work on the next few, transitional issues, this is the final issue of Language in Society of which I am officially editor. I welcome my replacement, Professor Jenny Cheshire, who started doing some of the editorial work in September 2013 and takes over the whole job at the beginning of 2014. I have enjoyed my nine years as editor. I have learned a great deal and have been as up to date with the field as I will ever be. I have particularly enjoyed working with younger scholars who are just beginning to publish and with faculty members and students from emerging centers of scholarship. I could not have done this job without the support of the Department of English at Carnegie Mellon University. For his expert help during the past several years, I am very grateful to editorial assistant Mark Thompson, now Dr. Thompson and an assistant professor at San Jose State University. Audra Starcheus has provided excellent copy editing, and I am, as always, grateful to Morrell Gillette at Cambridge University Press and to the rest of the staff there.
