page 531 note 1 Since this was written a treaty has been signed ceding the rights of Siam over Kědah to Great Britain. As it will probably soon become the fashion to magnify these rights, instead of whittling them down as hitherto, I may be permitted to observe that while writing this notice I had no thought of the possibility of such a cession. It was not present, to my mind at all.
